Chapter 565: Chapter 343: My Dad is a General! An Unavoidable Part of Every Homecoming

Stepping out of the school gates, the midday sun beat down, heating the ground. It was July, the hottest time of the year.

However, Zhang Yi and Hong Tianyi had only taken a few steps when a voice called out.

"Young Master Hong."

Following the voice, Zhang Yi and Hong Tianyi both saw a streamlined, silver-gray hover car parked beside the school gate. It was the very same Flying Phantom that Hong Tianyi had driven from his home for Zhang Yi’s last birthday, a rare hover car built by the Rong Heavy Industry Group.

Recognizing the caller as his personal driver, Hong Tianyi immediately invited Zhang Yi, "Brother Zhang, get in. I’ll give you a ride home!"

Looking at the sun high overhead and feeling the scorching heat, Zhang Yi was about to agree when suddenly, another voice—deep and resonant—called out.

"Lieutenant Zhang Yi!"

Zhang Yi turned toward the sound. A man in a green military uniform, with the rank of colonel on his shoulder, was standing about a dozen meters away. Beside him was a car. While not a luxury vehicle, it was the type of dedicated car typically used by high-ranking officials.

Hearing someone call his name and seeing the man’s appearance, Zhang Yi couldn’t help but study him closely. Besides the military uniform and the colonel’s insignia, the man appeared to have just entered middle age. His features were resolute and his posture was ramrod straight—he looked every bit the strictly trained soldier.

"And you are?" Zhang Yi asked, puzzled.

At the gates of Golden City No.1 Middle School, no one should recognize me. Even if they did, they shouldn’t be calling me by the rank I just received.

"Reporting, Lieutenant Zhang Yi," the colonel saluted. "I am General Zhang Zengyuan’s new aide-de-camp, Zhao Minghui. I am here on your father’s orders to escort you home."

"My father?" Zhang Yi didn’t immediately process it.

"General Zhang Zengyuan," Colonel Zhao Minghui reminded him.

"How did my father suddenly become a general?" Zhang Yi genuinely had no idea.

"It’s not because something major happened!" Noticing the worry on Zhang Yi’s face, Colonel Zhao Minghui quickly reassured him. "While you were at the University Alliance Training Camp, General Zhang Zengyuan personally requested a transfer back to the front lines.

"Moreover, in his capacity as an officer of the Donghuang Province garrison, located in the Yanhuang Federal Region of the Blue Star Federation, he applied for a transfer back to the front lines of the Yanhuang Federal War Zone to resume his post as the highest Conductor of an army group.

"And besides your father resubmitting his transfer request, your mother submitted one as well. Before your return, the latest transfer orders from the Yanhuang Federal Military Region of the Blue Star Federation had already been issued.

"Although General Zhang Zengyuan has not yet returned to the front lines for certain reasons, his application has been reviewed and approved. He has now been appointed the highest Conductor of the First Expeditionary Army in the Yanhuang Federation’s Fifth War Zone!

"At the same time, the General’s wife will be serving as the head of the Logistics department."

Hearing this, Zhang Yi was stunned. He had never imagined his parents would suddenly make such a decision. He had been completely in the dark.

"The General and his wife are currently busy with the handover of military affairs, and since they haven’t yet departed for the front lines of the Yanhuang Federal War Zone, they don’t have time to pick you up themselves.

"Also, because they have moved, I was sent to pick you up and take you to your new home."

After listening to Colonel Zhao Minghui’s explanation, even if Zhang Yi had been slow to catch on before, everything was clicking into place now.

Based on the information I have now, it seems that seeing their precious son head off to the University Alliance Training Camp for what felt like forever made them feel lonely, so they decided to transfer back to the front. There might be other details I’m missing, but that’s probably the gist of it.

Seeing Zhang Yi stand there motionless, Colonel Zhao Minghui seemed to fear a misunderstanding about why his parents hadn’t come themselves, so he added, "Besides being busy with the handover of military affairs, the transfer orders were actually issued four months ago. However, the General and his wife wanted to see you one last time, so they requested a postponement from their superiors."

At this, Colonel Zhao Minghui’s expression seemed helpless. "Although the postponement was approved, the orders have already been issued. Therefore, the General can only handle his military duties remotely for now.

"Because of this, the General and his wife are no longer living at their old residence. They are currently residing at the military port in Golden City, Donghuang Province."

Zhang Yi understood the rest of Colonel Zhao Minghui’s explanation perfectly. After all, he knew that it was mainly because of him that his parents had transferred to a local garrison in the first place. Now that he had completed the University Alliance Training Camp’s assessment and was about to enter university, they wouldn’t see each other for an even longer time. So, there was no longer any need for his parents to stay and accompany him.

Allowing a general with the power of a Middle-Level Divine Being to remain stationed in the rear of the Blue Star Federation was an absolute, colossal waste. This was true for both the Yanhuang Federation Military and the Blue Star Federation Military.

In fact, if his grandfather, Zhang Shumo, hadn’t pulled some strings, there’s no way his parents could have stayed in the rear for so long. Therefore, when the military received their application and heard they were willing to transfer back to the front, the approval process was completed in a flash. Even when Zhang Yi’s father, Zhang Zengyuan, asked to delay for a few more months to see his son, the Blue Star Federation’s military had agreed without hesitation.
