Chapter 735: Chapter 510: The Truth of the World-Ending War
Mage Wendel pointed to the Magic Tower behind him. Half of it had been destroyed, but the lower structure was still completely intact.
"I’ve checked. Although this Magic Tower was destroyed, the library inside is almost perfectly preserved!"
"The entrance is just below!"
Master Wendel led the group around to the back of the Magic Tower.
There, an entrance had already been cleared.
They followed the stairs down.
After walking for several hundred meters, a huge metal door made of Refined Steel and engraved with Defense Runes blocked their path.
There was a huge hole in the door, its edges showing signs of having been melted by high temperatures. It had clearly been forced open by some terrifying Power.
"This is it."
Master Wendel said, pointing at the hole.
"I’ve been inside. It’s... nothing short of a treasure trove!"
The group filed inside.
Behind the door was an immense, maze-like underground space.
Rows upon rows of bookshelves, each tens of meters high, were arranged neatly, packed densely with all sorts of books and Scrolls.
Although the area had been affected by the fighting—many bookshelves toppled, books scattered on the floor—most of the collection had been miraculously preserved, thanks to the Magic Tower’s powerful Defense Array and its location deep underground.
A unique fragrance, a mixture of parchment and ink, permeated the air.
"Don’t just stand there! Start searching!"
Master Wendel had already dived headfirst into the sea of books, unable to wait.
"Focus on finding records of the Continent’s history, and... documents about that world-ending war!"
The group immediately split up and began their search in this ocean of knowledge.
Raylo also casually picked up a thick book that was lying on the floor.
The book’s cover was made from the hide of some unknown Magical Beast, and a line of text was written on it: *On the Eleven Basic Models of Planar Law*.
He flipped through a few pages. The abstruse theories and complex formulas inside made his head ache.
He quickly put the book down and continued searching for historical records.
Time flew by during the tense search.
「Half an hour later.」
"I found it!"
Mage Delin’s voice, tinged with excitement and trembling, came from the depths of the library.
The group immediately followed the sound and rushed over.
They saw Mage Delin holding a thick, black tome. Its cover was tattered, but the pages inside were perfectly preserved.
On the tome’s cover, a shocking title was written in blood-red ink.
*Sunfall Disaster - Record of the End of the Aofa World*.
Mage Delin took a deep breath. Instead of opening the book, he slowly infused his immense Spiritual Power into it.
VMM!
The black tome began to move on its own, its pages flipping rapidly with a WHIRRR.
Lines of text formed from Spiritual Power emerged from the book, coalescing in mid-air to form shocking historical records.
An ancient and indignant voice slowly resounded in everyone’s minds.
"...The Twelfth Epoch, the beginning of the end. The twelve most powerful Legendary Mages of our world, in order to explore the ends of the Abyss and pursue the secrets of godhood, stepped together onto the battlefield Beyond the Heavens."
"However, they... never returned."
"They fell. They fell in that cold, dark void, upon a battlefield that was not our own."
"From that day on, a strange phenomenon began to appear in the sky."
"The ’Two Suns in the Sky’ lasted for several months. The light of our world’s Sun grew dimmer day by day."
"Meanwhile, the newly appeared, invading ’Sun’ grew hotter and more powerful."
"It was... devouring the Power of our Sun!"
"On the day our Sun was completely devoured, the will of our world would be consumed, and the World Barrier would completely collapse."
"Afterward, the remains of our world’s Sun, all its energy devoured, fell from the sky like a doomsday Meteorite, crashing into our lands with endless Flame and destruction."
"The oceans evaporated, the landmasses shattered, and the entire world was torn asunder by that terrifying impact."
"We call this day the ’Sunfall Disaster’."
"We, the survivors, used Magic Power to keep fragments of the Continent suspended amid the apocalypse, clinging to life."
"But the disaster was not over."
"Those winged monsters that descended from the sky, calling themselves messengers of the gods and known as the ’Angels of Death,’ began an inhuman... cleansing of us survivors."
"One by one, the continental fragments were destroyed, annihilated by them."
"Countless of our brethren died horribly under their blades."
"And now... they have come."
"They have come to our last and largest continental fragment, to the skies above our Mage Alliance Council."
"This will be... our final battle."
"May... Magic live on forever."
The black tome snapped shut.
The library fell into a deathly silence.
Everyone was utterly stunned by this cruel and tragic history.
Two Suns in the Sky.
The Sunfall Disaster.
’So, this was the truth behind the world’s destruction!’
Just as everyone was still reeling from the immense shock, unable to extricate themselves, Mage Nancy, who had been silent all this time, suddenly spoke.
