Chapter 794 - 794: Phoenix Spirit

“Stop this futile resistance; sooner or later you WILL become part of our cause.” The yellow-haired general spoke with confidence. The metallic part of her face gleamed under sunlight, turning her fake green eye into something akin to jade.

Seeing her mentioning distance, Wuhan himself did not rush to attack and calmly asked from the distance. “Oh, would you mind telling me, what is it? The purpose of your cult.”

After a moment of silence, Helena calmly raised a hand. Wuhan narrowed his eyes, thinking she was going to finally reveal some useful information, but the next moment the space around the woman cracked, and portals emerged out of thin air.

“If you can defeat them, maybe I will tell you about it.” On her signal several shadows charged out of the portals.

What stepped out of those holes was nothing short of horror. The first thing was a huge eagle, three times the size of a human being. But this was no normal bird. It had claws as big as Wuhan’s arms.

Instead of its head… there was half of the body of a metal-devouring centipede.

Its head twisted in the middle of the air, wriggling like a snake, while the rest of the body flew up toward Wuhan. Looking at this abomination of nature, Wuhan felt a shiver running down his spine.

For some reason he recalled the dish Xin Yan had made for him several years ago.

The worst thing about all of this was that… the bird-like creature who looked like his mother had sinned with a centipede was not alone. There were several other creatures just like it.

There was a frog with butterfly wings, its skin glowing with rainbow-like colors.

The last thing to appear was something relatively small compared to them. It was a disgusting-looking slimy worm with its skin drooping. It was no bigger than the size of an arm.

The slug-like creature flopped on Helena’s shoulder, making squishy noises that made Wuhan’s skin crawl, but the general did not seem to mind it at all.

On the contrary, she even reached out to touch the thing. “These cute little babies are my prized possessions.”

Wuhan would have scoffed at the claim had he not been able to sense the aura of a Rank 6 Spirit Beast.

“You will be fighting only two of them for now.” She continued on without, her attention now focused on the slug sitting on her shoulder. “Don’t die if you want the answers~”

Wuhan dreaded asking the question the way she said those sweet words with a chilling look in her eyes. At her orders, the two huge beasts launched their attacks at Wuhan from the distance.

The Centipeagle clanked its two sharp horn-like teeth against each other before twisting its neck 180 degrees, hurling waves of knife-like blades at Wuhan.

The frog, on the other hand, made a ‘ribbit’ sound before his throat started to swell. He flew a bit forward and spat an orb of lava right behind the blades.

The dark gray blades started to turn red as the lava orb drew closer.

The net of red-hot blades and the ball of lava bigger than Wuhan himself vaporized the moisture in the air. Wuhan could feel the heat, even from the distance, but his face never showed a change in expression.

“Playing with fire… in front of me? How naive.” His voice, although barely a whisper, reached Helena in the distance. Her eyes narrowed, but she could no longer see Wuhan, as his figure had already been drowned in the lava.

The blades flew past the area he stood, but the lava was stopped. It started to glow unnaturally and expanded as if it was going to explode.

And then it happened…

Boom!

The orb exploded in all directions as a sweet, high-pitched chirp echoed through the heavens and the earth.

Helena, realizing Wuhan would not be as easy to deal with as she had initially thought, moved to dodge the incoming debris.

Although she was quick enough to react, her ‘cute’ pets were not so lucky. Several blade and lava fragments struck them, drawing blood or leaving burn marks.

The centipede let out a sickening chirp, while the frog only groaned a little. Seeing their agony, Helena’s eyes flashed with a dangerous glint. She turned to look in the direction of the center of the explosion and saw Wuhan… still standing there, unharmed.

His body seemed to be covered in crimson flames that burned from his toe towards the head. The flames rose high up without harming Wuhan in the least.

His eyes were closed, but his golden hair had taken a shade of red.

‘What—’ Words were not enough to describe what Helena was feeling.

A colossal pressure surged from Wuhan, dwarfing the oppressive aura Helena had unleashed.

The air itself seemed to quiver, the clouds below parting as if fleeing from the force. Behind him, the vague silhouette solidified, its edges sharpening into a majestic form.

Huge wings of crimson and gold flames unfurled from Wuhan’s back, merging with the figure behind him, each feather glowing like a piece of the sun.

This manifestation, this figure, belonged to the majestic and divine phoenix. The phoenix’s head tilted back, its sharp beak open as if screaming silently, its eyes blazing with the same fire that now danced around Wuhan’s body. Its tail feathers flowed like rivers of molten light, curling through the sky.

Wuhan’s eyes opened slowly, and they were alive with fire—golden irises swirling with streaks of red and amber, like embers in a forge.

The heat from his stare seemed to ripple through the air, and the space beneath him cracked, tiny fractures spreading out like spiderwebs.

The phoenix behind him pulsed with his heartbeat, its fiery wings stretching wider, sending a hot gust of wind that whipped Helena’s robes and made her drones wobble in their orbits.

Helena’s cool mask slipped, her eyes widening with a flicker of shock. The slimy slug on her shoulder squirmed, letting out a gross, gurgling noise, like it could feel the danger. The centipeagle and butterfly-winged frog shrank back, their twisted bodies cowering from the phoenix’s light.
