Genshin Impact : Eerie Teyvat

Chapter 560: Ch 560 : A blessing in disguise

  • Next Chapter

Seeing his plan to sneeze on "Bennett" to make him unlucky had failed, Su Yuan didn’t give up — he switched tactics and started sneezing at Aether and Paimon instead.

"Achoo—!!!"

With each sneeze, Su Yuan’s snot and spit splattered onto Aether and Paimon.

He hurriedly said, "Oh no, I sneezed again — and somehow all this spit and snot landed on the Traveler and little Paimon. What terrible, awful luck they have!"

But even so, "Bennett" showed no sign of stopping; he still sharpened his intent to slaughter Aether and Paimon, wanting them dead.

Su Yuan stared in despair.

Why hadn’t anything changed?

He’d already done things meant to make Aether and Paimon unlucky — so why did nothing shift?

Maybe such deliberately manufactured bad luck doesn’t count as real "bad luck," since it’s artificially created.

Or perhaps the bad luck Su Yuan produced was utterly insignificant compared to the overwhelming good luck on Aether and Bennett, so it couldn’t balance things out.

If that was the case, how could he possibly generate a much bigger, more intense misfortune inside this tiny room to offset everything?

And even if he could, such powerful bad luck would be dangerous and likely harm Aether and Paimon physically...

But Su Yuan quickly reasoned that some injury would be better than death.

So he planned to pull out his pocketknife, pretend to fumble while demonstrating some "knife work," and "accidentally" slice off Aether’s and Paimon’s ears — creating real, unlucky misfortune that might at least slow Bennett down.

He reached into his pocket — only to find it empty.

His pocketknife was gone.

Then he remembered: after he had passed out yesterday, Scholar Dottore had stripped him and checked him over.

His clothes he was wearing now had been put on this morning — so Dottore must have taken the knife.

Without any weapon on him, Su Yuan couldn’t carry out the plan.

He considered using Abyssal power instead, but he worried his control wasn’t refined enough: what if he meant only to nick ears and instead misfired and smashed their heads?

Causing permanent disability would be a terrible price too.

Yet Bennett was closing in; this wasn’t the time to dither.

Hesitation meant defeat — he had to act now.

Su Yuan tried to summon the Foul Legacy Armament armor again and spoke aloud, "I don’t know why, but I suddenly feel like summoning the Foul Legacy Armament to show you a bit of Abyssal power..."

Before he could finish, he felt Bennett’s cold gaze and the pressure of Bennett’s Eerie energy bearing down on him.

"Su Yuan... I take you for one of us — someone cursed with terrible bad luck — so I have no intention of hurting you," Bennett said.

"But you keep interfering with me again and again, and that displeases me... Stand still and watch. Watch as I torture and slaughter these lucky bastards to death — leave none alive!!!"

Su Yuan felt himself frozen and could not summon the armor.

He realized the Eerie Bennett had seen through his attempt to manufacture misfortune — and had directly stopped him.

If he continued to summon the Foul Legacy Armament and go against "Bennett," not only would he fail to save Aether and Paimon—he would probably die himself.

It seemed clear now that his plan to make "Bennett," Aether, and Paimon unlucky had completely failed...

But if that wouldn’t work, then what other way was there to stop "Bennett" and free him from his Eerie state?

Just as despair was starting to set in, Su Yuan suddenly thought of something.

He recalled the time he had dealt with Kirara’s corruption—there had been similarities to the current situation.

Kirara’s transformation had depended on her subjective belief about whether she was accepted by human society.

If Bennett’s corruption was triggered by his good luck, then perhaps—just as Su Yuan had begun to suspect—whether Bennett feels lucky or unlucky might also be a matter of perception.

So if it was impossible to change the objective reality of good or bad luck, then perhaps the key to breaking the deadlock was to change Bennett’s own perception of it!

Taking a deep breath, Su Yuan shouted toward "Bennett":

"Bennett! Wait! I have something to say to you!!"

But "Bennett" snapped back without hesitation, "No. I’m busy executing these fortunate fools right now..."

Hearing that, Su Yuan frowned tightly.

If Bennett refused to listen, no amount of persuasion would help...

So he quickly racked his brain and blurted out,

"Bennett! Please—since we’re both unlucky, miserable guys, just hear me out for a moment!"

That line seemed to strike a chord. "Bennett" finally stopped what he was doing, turned his head toward Su Yuan, and said coldly, "Fine. Make it quick."

Seeing that, Su Yuan finally let out a small sigh of relief.

Looking straight at "Bennett," he began to speak slowly:

"Bennett... have you ever heard the story of ’The old man who lost his horse, yet who could say it wasn’t a blessing in disguise?’"
