Genetic Engineer in a Tamer's World

Chapter 141: The Preparations

  • Next Chapter

The morning sun had barely cleared the ancient spires of the capital when Kale Ardentis began his work.

On his workbench, the silver scroll of the Grand Imperial Zenith Competition lay open. Its characters, written in dense imperial ink, described the strict rules.

With only six days remaining, the tension in Emberheart was rising rapidly. The capital’s noble families were gathering their rarest resources. They prepared their young heirs for a public display of strength.

Kale ignored the distant and bustling hum of the city. His full attention was focused on a single crystal matrix. The previous night’s encounter with Princess Aria left a lingering warmth.

Her distinct scent of wild ginger was present near the entrance. But more than her scent, her words remained in his mind. She had challenged him to win the ancient rank elemental core.

According to his research, this pristine, absolutely pure catalyst would bypass the standard metabolic bottlenecks. It would allow him to initiate the next phase of his Elemental Resonance Project.

The shadow beneath his boots rippled, and Neo emerged. The three-headed hydra hopped onto the stone table, its matte black scales absorbing the light. Its body was currently compressed into a mundane chameleon lizard.

The beast let out a low trill, tracking the detailed sketches of the resonance pathways. The taming bond was perfectly stable. The gold runic mesh on his neck was fully suppressing the World Dragon’s curse.

Neo’s scales occasionally shimmered beneath the mask, a sign of the fire energy circulating through their link. To survive Luke’s tightening net, Kale knew he had to play a far bolder game.

The time for hiding behind a humble apprentice mask was over. He was a Master Artificer now, a tamer who circumvented the World Dragon’s seal. Princess Aria was accustomed to absolute submission.

She used her lineage and charm to bend others to her will. But his Mental Bastion trait rendered her influence useless. Instead of avoiding her, Kale planned to turn her curiosity against her.

He would seduce her, not out of affection, but as a calculated tactical manoeuvre. To make a high-ranking princess chase after him... a common researcher immune to her charm... would grant him a shield.

It would force the Sol Ignis family to defend him against the Inquisition’s prying eyes actively. With a dark smile, Kale picked up his carving knife. He began to slice ironwood, his fingers moving with speed.

The door’s locking mechanism vibrated softly, and Lazek Oberon walked into the chamber. The Grandmaster did not carry his usual lazy grin. His pale face was set in a serious and clinical expression.

He walked to his desk, pouring a pinch of tobacco into his curved pipe. He let out a slow ring of smoke toward the ceiling, his dark eyes reflecting the floating scripts.

"The high council has finalised the participant rosters, kid."

Lazek said, his voice a dry and heavy rasp.

"They have registered over three hundred young prodigies across all five awakened pathways. It is a slaughterhouse of talent."

Kale did not look up from his carving, his hand remaining steady as he shaped the wood.

"Who are the primary competitors in the Artificer path?"

Lazek took another slow puff of his pipe, the bitter smoke rising toward the ceiling.

"The genius heirs of House Morrow and the Divine Fist Sect."

Lazek replied, blowing a slow ring of smoke.

"They have spent years training in private laboratories, utilising high-grade materials that we rarely see in the southern sector."

Lazek leaned against the stone table, his expression grave.

"The first trial is a test of structural integrity under extreme thermal stress. Candidates must construct a tool that can regulate volatile elemental mana without leaking a single unit of energy."

The Grandmaster paused, letting the weight of the rules sink in.

"If your creation shows even a minor instability, the judges will disqualify you instantly without hesitation.

The Morrow heirs are constructing heavy, earth-attributed talismans, while the Sect members are utilising fire-infused brass cores."

Kale stopped his carving for a brief second, his green eyes flashing.

"Then we must design something that showcases absolute, undeniable dominance."

Kale noted flatly. He unrolled a fresh sheet of parchment, sketching the schematics of a dual-attribute tool he had named the Aether Granite Lens.

It was an advanced matrix designed to integrate the dense, defensive earth properties of his Terra Shell with the Ignis Core’s thermodynamic filtration.

By combining these two elemental forces into a single silver alloy frame, he could create a unique lens.

This lens would be capable of focusing volatile fire mana into a laser-like beam without suffering any thermal degradation under pressure.

He showed the sketch to his master, who leaned over the table to examine the drawing with a critical eye.

"The construction of such a lens requires a pristine, high-density mineral catalyst."

Lazek said, running his pale finger over the paper.

"Standard granite won’t hold the fire element’s volatility. You need a shard of deep earth crystal from the imperial vaults. And currently, those vaults are heavily guarded by the crown’s paladins."

Kale’s eyes glinted with a cold and calculating amusement. He reached into his spatial storage and took the crimson-tinted phoenix token Aria had left him.

"We don’t need to raid the vaults. We have a royal partner who is highly eager to fund our progress."

He channelled a precise and micro-sized stream of his mana into the crystal token, sending a private, coded message directly to Aria’s personal guards.

He requested a single raw shard of deep-earth crystal and five vials of volcanic resin. These were rare materials strictly barred to the Association’s common apprentices.

It was a bold and demanding move, a clear signal to the princess that he was actively utilising her resources to prepare for his victory. He knew she would find his audacity highly intriguing.

Within two hours, the door’s locking mechanism hummed once more, and Rando stepped into the laboratory. The prince’s shadow did not offer his usual boisterous greeting.

His face was tight with a mixture of amusement and disbelief as he placed a small, lead-lined container onto the wooden table. The metal clinked softly against the wood.

"The Princess was quite surprised by your audacity, Master Kale,"

Rando noted, pulling his dark hood low to obscure his features.

"She claims she has never met a commoner who demands royal treasures so casually. Yet, she authorised the immediate release of these items. She is highly curious to see if you can back up your arrogance on the stage."

Kale opened the container, revealing a dark and pulsing crystal that hummed with a heavy, stable earth element. Beside it sat five vials of shimmering crimson resin, wreathed in a faint, warm vapour.

"Tell her that a proper tamer does not negotiate from a position of weakness."

Kale said flatly, storing the materials in his spatial pouch.

"If she wants a golden goose, she must be willing to provide the best feed."

Rando laughed softly, his yellow eyes carrying a genuine respect as he turned to leave.

"The Prince’s faction is also watching your progress, Kale. Do not forget our deal. Win the tournament, and the imperial guard will continue to misdirect Luke’s inquisitors."

With the rare materials secured, Kale began his intense preparations. He spent the next four days locked in his laboratory, refusing to rest or sleep.

The Master rank artefacts he wore, the Stamina Band and the Blessed Headband, kept his physical and mental focus steady. They prevented his Hexarion physiology from flagging under the extreme strain of the work.

He used his daggers to shave the silver alloy core into an organic, curved frame. This ensured the mana could flow without hitting sudden corners, his movements carrying a surgical precision.

Next came the precise integration of the deep earth crystal. He used a heavy brass pestle to grind a tiny portion of the mineral into a fine and sparkling dust.

He mixed it with the volcanic resin to create a stable alchemical paste.

Using his unified Trinity Crafting skill, he coated the silver frame in a dense layer of the paste, anchoring the elemental pathways with micro-sized runic engravings.

The lens slowly stabilised, its surface glowing with a quiet, dual attribute harmony of deep red and granite grey. It reflected the cold light of the room.

Neo assisted throughout the process, the small hydra using its Flame Absorption ability to draw any excess thermal radiation from the workspace. The bond between them was a silent and pulsing current of mutual trust.

Together, they conducted several brief, silent trials to ensure the lens could focus mana without cracking under pressure. By the evening of the fifth day, the Aether Granite Lens was complete.

It sat on the stone table, a beautiful and flawless work of masterwork engineering that thrummed with an unyielding and balanced power.

Kale stood up, adjusting his gold-trimmed Master robes, ensuring his appearance was entirely immaculate. The tournament was only twenty-four hours away, and the capital’s spires were already bathed in the cold and silver light of the rising moon.

High Inquisitor Luke was still watching the gates with his paladins, but the permanent subcutaneous seal on his neck held flawlessly. It left his heretical secrets buried deep in the dark.
