Shelur nodded in agreement before saying, “All right, spill. How are you able to use draconian flames?”

“It’s like I said, it’s my shield skill that was formally hidden,” John explained. “As you know, I received this shield when I got my class, but what you don’t know is that it’s a growth item.”

“You're kidding,” Emberslang said as she stared at Bahamut’s Aegis while John pulled out some water to restore his mana. “That thing's a living gear?”

{Seriously, he got another one?} Mel thought, as she stared at John in shock. {How can he be so lucky in getting growth items and yet so unlucky at drop rolls?}

“I’m serious,” John replied. “When I named it, I unlocked a skill, though apparently the dragon part of the shield failed to recognise me and so didn’t reveal it. I either needed to prove worthy or figure out how to unlock the skill myself, and it seems absorbing a draconian's breath attack was the key.”

“That’s crazy,” Shelur replied. “There is no way you would have been able to figure that out normally.”

“That’s for sure; if you had suspected it of being related to a breath attack, you would have thought it would be a true dragon, considering it’s a dragon's head pictured on the shield,” Emberslag added.

“Maybe, but that would be pretty much impossible,” Mel replied. “Aren't the true dragons in Genesis practically impossible to meet since they're mostly all sleeping, like in real life?”

“I believe I’ve heard rumours that a few are awake in Genesis, but we’re better off asking Black Dragoon about this,” Embersalg replied while turning to the draconian woman in question, only to see her staring at John.

“I know he’s pretty handsome for a human, but if you keep staring at him like that, we might start to get the wrong idea,” Shelur teased, causing Black Dragoon to flush in embarrassment before saying hastily. “So… sorry, I was just so surprised, that's all.”

Emberslag laughed at her friend's reaction before turning to John and saying, “I guess that explains why you're not mad at her. You got an awesome skill you shouldn’t have out of her accidentally attacking you.”

“Us, attacking us,” Shelur replied as she once again gave John an appreciative look while thinking. {No one's ever done anything like that for me before.}

“Sure, sure,” Emberslag replied. “Then you should thank him even more, since you should still have taken some damage from that attack.”

“Yeah, it’s kinda weird I didn’t take any damage at all,” Shelur replied while wearing a thoughtful expression. “It’s not like the attack was completely absorbed; I mean, I still felt the heat of the flames and saw them licking my body.”

“Do you think it’s able to absorb any attacks?” Mel asked, to which John shook his head. “I don’t think so, considering the shield has a dragon's head like Emberslag said, though there was a strange message when it happened. Something about the hidden ability being altered to reflect the absorbed attack.”

Mel nodded before saying, “It’s also called Draconian Empress’s Breath; that’s kind of weird.”

“It’s probably just a name that was randomly generated,” Emberslag suggested. “Or perhaps a combination of dragons being known as rulers or emperors and Black Dragoon being a female, hence empress.”

“Hmm, I guess,” Mel replied in a thoughtful tone before Black Dragoon quickly asked. “I know it’s a bit rude, but can I see the attack details? I’ll show you breath attack details in exchange. I just want to compare the two.”

“Sure,” John replied before displaying the details, prompting Black Dragoon to do the same while giving an appreciative smile.

I guess that kinda makes sense since a shield doesn’t need to take a deep breath before breathing out, and it would need to balance it out somehow.”

“That’s crazy expensive on the MP though,” Mel replied.

“That’s because it’s the rank two version; the rank one version only costs fifty MP,” Black Dragoon explained.

“Alright, alright. I think we’re all quite amazed by Vincarna’s new skill, but might I remind you that we are on a deadline here, so let's check the loot and move on,” Emberslag stated before bending down and touching the first corpse.

“That’s right,” Black Dragoon nodded before adding. "Well, at least gloves are better than my current ones.”

Shelur smirked, throwing out her chest and triumphantly saying, "Thirty-eight magic attack power and four intellect. I guess I will be generous and pass on the staff since it would be a damage loss to me."

“Gee, thanks,” John replied while rolling his eyes as everyone made their choices.

Mel smiled with a shrug before saying, “I’m a druid, sweetie. As one of the few classes that can fill any role in Genesis, I naturally have to find gear appropriate to that role. That staff would have aided me in both the ranged DPS and healing roles.”

“She’s right,” Emberslag replied. “That’s also why I rolled for it. Classes that cover multiple roles, such as ours, are incredibly flexible; however, as your level goes up, you’ll find yourself needing far more gear than one of the single-role classes like dragoon or warlock.”

“Liar,” Shelur replied. “The only reason you want the staff is for when you go ranged DPS; someone with tunnel vision like you could never be a dedicated healer. That’s why we had to find Dream Star.”

“Well, moving on,” Emberslag quickly said before approaching the next corpse.
