Gene Fusion System: Crime Hunter
Chapter 1415: Rift Between Father and Daughter (Part 2)
Clearly, she just couldn’t understand this deliberate attempt to shift the blame onto someone else.
The aunt standing nearby also sighed and said.
“Officer Li is right. Actually, most people think Chen Guojun is just wallowing in guilt. It’s just that he’s so concerned about his pride, he refuses to admit that his family’s death has a direct connection to him. So he tries every way he can to dump the responsibility on others. All of us know this perfectly well.”
“But he’s always had a violent temper. No one dares cross him. So people in our village don’t dare to say this to his face. We’re afraid he’ll fly into a rage and turn against us, and that would be too much trouble.”
The aunt’s explanation made Luo Fei nod as well.
“I’ve basically understood the situation. Auntie, thank you so much for providing us with leads. And now it seems we can also make sense of how things ended up like this.”
“The root cause is simply that Chen Guojun refuses to admit his mistakes, and insists on putting the blame on others, isn’t it?”
Luo Fei’s words made the aunt look somewhat ashamed.
“Yes, officer, but you know, sometimes there are things we just can’t say straight out.”
“So, with things getting to this point, actually everyone in our village bears some responsibility.”
She clearly felt very remorseful.
As if blaming herself for letting him act willfully, which was what allowed things to develop this far.
Li Yu, off to the side, spoke very seriously.
“Auntie, you’re overthinking this. From the start, this whole matter was the result of that man’s own choices. It’s all because he’s obsessed with saving face. No one else can really be blamed. So you absolutely shouldn’t put that burden on yourself.”
Just as they were talking, a little girl rode up on a bicycle from not far away.
Her expression was clearly angry.
Her face looked quite dark.
“Officer, my dad isn’t a bad person. You can’t arrest him!”
Right now, the little girl in front of them was full of righteous fury.
Her face was brimming with displeasure.
Her whole face was flushed, and her eyes were red and swollen, as if she had just been crying.
Luo Fei couldn’t help feeling curious.
“Little girl, who is your dad?”
He looked at her in puzzlement.
The girl took a deep breath.
“Officer, my dad is Liu Dechun, the man you came looking for before.”
“I know he often does some strange things. But he really is a good person. He would never do anything truly evil or harmful. That much I can guarantee.”
At this point,
there was still a sob in her voice.
Hearing that slight catch in her tone,
Luo Fei hurried to reassure her.
“Kid, none of us ever said your father is a criminal.”
“There’s no need for you to get so worked up. It’s just that he himself said his trash can went missing and asked us to help him find it. Even if it weren’t the police he’d asked, anyone would find that pretty strange, right?”
Luo Fei’s words made her open her mouth, but for a long moment she couldn’t get anything out.
“You’re right, officer. Maybe I really jumped to conclusions.”
She looked rather embarrassed.
Luo Fei went on.
“Miss, I understand why you’re conflicted. But you really don’t need to feel so bad. I can promise you that we police will do everything we can to investigate the truth. And I believe that behind what your father said, there must be some reason of his own.”
As he said this,
the girl suddenly stiffened.
“Officer, do you really think that? Are you really willing to believe me?”
She looked at him in wide-eyed surprise,
almost unable to believe what she was hearing.
Luo Fei neither confirmed nor denied outright.
“Of course. Why would I have any reason to lie to you on purpose?”
His words made the girl hesitate for a moment.
“Officer, actually I’ve always had a secret, or rather, a worry of my own. I’m just not sure, and I don’t dare jump to a conclusion. I don’t know if you can help me confirm it. Maybe I’ve misunderstood the whole thing.”
Her eyes were darting away.
She seemed torn, wanting to speak but holding back.
Luo Fei’s curiosity was piqued.
“Miss, what exactly is this concern you’re talking about?”
“Officer, what if I told you that my father might not actually be my father, that there might be no blood relationship between us at all—would you be willing to believe that?”
Her words took Luo Fei by surprise.
“Miss, are you serious?”
“Officer, I’ve actually suspected this for a long time. I just never had the courage to test it. My dad and I don’t look alike, and a lot of people say the two of us don’t resemble each other at all.”
What she said left Luo Fei rather startled as well.
“Is that so? Have you ever asked your father about it, or tried to sound him out and see what he thinks?”
“Of course I’ve asked. But my dad got very angry. He said I was just overthinking things. But I can feel that he’s actually very afraid. He only acts angry to cover it up, to hide some secret and truth in the depths of his heart.”
This kind of revelation
caught Luo Fei off guard.
“Looked at this way, it’s quite possible your father really is hiding something from you.”
His words made her whole body jolt.
“Officer, do you truly think that?”
“Absolutely. Normally, when parents hear something like that from their children, they may feel a bit hurt, but they won’t be afraid. Your father’s reaction is a textbook sign that he doesn’t have a clear conscience.”
“So it’s possible your suspicion is true. But for now it’s only my conjecture. It doesn’t mean it’s one hundred percent the case.”
Luo Fei’s analysis made the girl’s eyes freeze in shock.
“How could this be? Why would something like this happen?”
At this moment she looked utterly stunned, completely unwilling to believe her own ears.
Luo Fei quickly tried to console her.
“Miss, I don’t like saying this, but to be thorough, I think you should find a chance to do a paternity test together with your father.”
His suggestion made the girl waver.
“Officer, do you think doing that would be wrong? My father has always treated me well, yet here I am suspecting he might mean me harm. That really feels too out of line.”
She seemed torn and uncertain.
Luo Fei said.
“Miss, if your father truly cares about you, then even if you want to learn about the past, he won’t take offense. On the contrary, he’ll feel that it shows you’ve grown up, that you’re genuinely becoming more capable. He’ll definitely feel proud of you.”
His words astonished her.
“Officer, I didn’t expect you to see it that way. That really surprises me.”
“Since you’ve said that, I can finally feel a bit easier. Otherwise, if I went to my father directly and he ended up upset, I honestly wouldn’t know what to do.”
Seeing how anxious and uneasy she looked,
Li Yu, standing off to the side, couldn’t help voicing his concern.
“Mr. Luo, are you sure this is really okay?”
In Li Yu’s view, Luo Fei was taking on a certain risk.
After all, the girl might end up arguing with her father, and this whole matter could end up affecting their relationship.
That was exactly what Li Yu was worried about.
But looking at the girl, who seemed at a loss
and more than a little uneasy,
Luo Fei said.
“Li Yu, if this father is deliberately hiding something, then I think as his daughter she has the right to know. She should know what her father is doing, shouldn’t she?”
These words
left Li Yu somewhat hesitant.
“Mr. Luo, you’re much braver than I am. If it were me, I’d never dare do something like this. I’d even feel that I was offending the person.”
Li Yu said this with a wry twist of his mouth,
looking a bit embarrassed.
But Luo Fei told him earnestly.
“What’s wrong with that?”
