Chapter 390: Signing Up
Chapter 390: Chapter 390: Signing Up
Starry City.
Long Ming materialized in a flash of white light and landed on the ground.
He immediately felt utterly exhausted. His head was spinning, and his body felt as if it had been completely hollowed out.
Long Ming lifted his wristband, clicked it once to store all his items in his warehouse, and then logged out of Starry City.
Inside a room at the Cloud Hotel.
HISS...
With the sound of depressurizing air, the lid slowly opened.
Long Ming climbed out of the neural link pod and walked over to the sofa to sit down.
He leaned back on the sofa and rested for over an hour. Afterward, he got up, poured himself a glass of warm water, and drank it, feeling much better instantly.
Long Ming put the glass down and raised his wristband to start sorting through his loot.
He listed everything except the Mechanical Gods and nuclear fuel on the marketplace for consignment, setting them for a quick sale at low prices or for recycling.
BZZZT...
Instantly, Long Ming’s wristband began to vibrate.
One after another, notifications of successful sales popped up.
’This online consignment feature is really useful,’ he thought. ’Too bad it’s about to be shut down. Fencing the loot is going to be a problem later.’
’I might get busted the moment I offload the goods.’
Soon, all the miscellaneous items were sold, for a total of 25.12 million Star Coins.
Of course, a large portion of this income came from the equipment dropped by numerous freelance players and Fumira’s subordinates. The items from the dungeon itself wouldn’t have yielded nearly as much.
Then there were the most valuable items, the Mechanical Gods, which he hadn’t sold yet: one Fourth Generation Standard Mechanical God, two Third Generation custom models, and five Third Generation Standard Mechanical Gods, Destroyer models. These Mechanical Gods alone were worth over a hundred million Star Coins.
’But they probably won’t be easy to sell,’ Long Ming mused. ’That guy, Major Fumira, definitely won’t let this go so easily.’
Thinking this, Long Ming opened the Civilization Forum and was immediately greeted by a warning post.
The post was from none other than Fumira.
Long Ming immediately clicked on the post and saw its contents.
"Listen up, everyone! No one is to purchase the Fourth Generation Standard Mecha: Hunter, the Third Generation Custom Mechanical God: Blazing Wing, the Third Generation Custom Mechanical God: Shadow Raider, or any Destroyer models bearing the mark of my Third Legion. Otherwise, you will bear the consequences! Furthermore, there is a 10 million Star Coin bounty for the capture of Red Ghost!"
The comment section below the post absolutely exploded.
"What’s going on?"
"What happened?!"
"You don’t know? Major Fumira’s entire squad got wiped in a dungeon by some guy named Red Ghost, and they lost all their Mechanical Gods!"
"My god!"
"For real?"
"That’s insane!"
"I heard the Third Legion is in an uproar over this."
"No kidding! Forget the seven Third Generation Mechanical Gods, losing a Fourth Generation one is a huge deal on its own!"
"Who is this Red Ghost? I’m seriously impressed."
"Hey buddy, watch your mouth. Loose lips sink ships!"
"Deleting my comment right now."
...
Long Ming read through the post and the comments, a headache starting to form.
’Just as I thought, he’s starting to make his move.’
Under normal circumstances, Long Ming would definitely lie low, at least until the heat died down.
But he was running out of time.
He had to get to the Star Alliance Military Department office within 24 hours.
With this in mind, Long Ming checked the map. The Military Department office was located in the central district of Omro City, still some distance away. He got up and left the hotel.
...
In a lavishly decorated private room, where a plush, king-sized bed sat atop a handmade silk carpet...
A short, bald, big-nosed middle-aged man was sound asleep, snoring intermittently while holding a tall, sexy beauty with fair skin and a cascade of wavy red hair.
The beautiful woman didn’t dare move, terrified of waking the man beside her.
BZZZT...
Suddenly, the landline phone on the bedside table began to ring.
The woman quickly looked at the phone, and her expression changed to one of shock when she saw the caller ID.
The noise startled Faiken awake. An annoyed look on his face, he grumbled unhappily.
"Who is it?!"
"Sir, it looks like a call from headquarters," the woman said nervously.
"Headquarters?"
He was instantly wide awake. He immediately reached for the phone and answered respectfully.
"This is Department Head Faiken."
"Yes... Yes... Yes..."
...
"Alright, understood!"
"I’ll get right on it!"
Faiken hung up and immediately urged his young secretary.
"Quick, get my clothes!"
"Right away!"
The woman immediately got up, took the colonel’s military uniform hanging nearby, and handed it to Faiken.
Faiken hurriedly changed, not even bothering to button his uniform before throwing open the door and rushing out.
The scene left the beautiful woman staring after him, dumbfounded.
’She’d rarely seen Faiken in such a hurry.’
...
「Meanwhile.」
A hover taxi pulled over to the side of the street.
Long Ming stepped out of the vehicle and looked up at the area ahead.
A gigantic, solemn, and imposing shell-shaped building with an exterior of iridescent glass came into view.
This was the Military Department office.
’I’m not sure about this,’ Long Ming thought, his stomach churning. He was afraid it was a trap, but it seemed he had no other choice.
He took a deep breath, then turned to look around.
Long Ming found a deserted spot with no surveillance cameras, put on his Blade Blood Demon Armor, and walked straight toward the Military Department office.
Along the way, pedestrians on the street saw Long Ming and subconsciously made way, their faces filled with fear.
"Who is that guy?!"
"I don’t know. His armor looks like something a monster would wear."
"If we weren’t in the city, I’d suspect a monster had snuck in!"
...
The crowd watched Long Ming, murmuring amongst themselves.
Just then, Long Ming walked straight up to the main entrance of the Military Department office.
The guards on duty were startled to see him and immediately raised their guns, shouting a command.
"Halt!"
Long Ming stopped in his tracks, his crimson eyes turning to face the guards.
"Who are you? What’s your business here?" one of the guards asked warily.
"I’m here to register," Long Ming replied, his voice hoarse.
"Register? You can’t just come here wearing armor! This is the Military Department office, a restricted area!"
There was no way the guards would dare let Long Ming inside.
’This is a problem,’ Long Ming thought, hesitating. ’Do I really have to take off my armor to go in?’
Just then, a black hovercar screeched to a halt at the entrance, and Faiken rushed out, running towards Long Ming and the guards.
"Department Head!"
The guards’ expressions became serious when they saw Faiken approaching.
"Stand aside. This doesn’t concern you."
"Yes, sir!"
The guards immediately stepped back and made way.
"You must be Mr. Red Ghost, correct?" Faiken asked, his face wreathed in a friendly smile as he spoke to Long Ming.
"Yes."
"My apologies for being late."
"And you are?"
"I’m the one assigned to receive you. Shall we go inside?"
"Alright."
Long Ming then followed Faiken inside.
The two guards watched Faiken personally escort Long Ming in, their faces etched with disbelief.
"Did I see that right? The Department Head escorted someone in personally?"
"You saw it right. The sun must be rising in the west!"
