Faye had to leave without waiting to hear whatever Lycan witch Henry was talking about. She simply told him no and walked away, leaving him with his questions.

Unfortunately, Henry wasn’t the kind of person who would let something like that go easily.

By the time Faye returned to the gym, everything was exactly as she had left it. Nothing had changed, except for Malo. Malo was still sitting in front of the screen, watching a movie while munching on his donut, while Bambi remained stretched out on the bench. She had stopped crying, but the sadness on her face hadn’t gone anywhere. She lay there quietly, staring into space as if she had nothing else to do with herself.

Faye watched her for a moment before walking over. She crouched beside the bench, bringing herself closer to Bambi’s face, then gently tapped her.

"Hey, I have no idea what it feels like to be heartbroken, but the Bambi I know is a strong and tough girl who can get back on her feet. You can’t let one heartbreak define you. Maybe what Kiara did was a sign that you two weren’t meant to be. Your person might be close or still far away, but they’ll eventually come along when the time is right. Maybe you should take this time to work on yourself and become a better version of yourself. Then, when that person finally comes along, they’ll be proud of the person you’ve become," Faye said softly.

Bambi sniffed, her eyes growing watery again.

"Nobody ever cares about me. They only do that when they want something from me. Butcher took me in because he saw how much money I could make for him. Everything I’ve done until now was just so I could have someone to call my own, and I thought she was going to be the one."

Her voice grew quieter towards the end, and she looked away, unable to hide how much the breakup had hurt her. For someone who usually carried herself with so much confidence, Bambi suddenly looked lost, like she didn’t know what to do with all the feelings she had been left with.

"Kiara isn’t the one. You are your own person, okay? So be your own person," Faye told her.

Bambi slowly sat up, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand. She looked at Faye for a moment before asking the question that had apparently been bothering her.

"Are you going to dump me when I’m no longer useful to you?"

Faye’s expression changed immediately.

"Of course not. You’re not just my Beta. You’re my friend, and Malo is your friend too."

She pointed towards the boy sitting in front of the screen. He was so absorbed in his movie that he hadn’t paid the slightest attention to their conversation. Whatever was happening between the characters seemed far more important to him than the emotional crisis taking place just a few feet away.

"Malo, turn off the TV and come talk to your friends!" Faye shouted.

Malo nearly jumped out of his seat. He grabbed the remote and switched off the television before getting up and walking over to them. He crouched beside Faye, looking between the two girls with a confused expression.

"What’s happening?"

Faye stared at him in disbelief.

"I told you to watch her, but instead, you were busy watching a telenovela!"

"I was watching her!" Malo protested immediately. "Bambi likes watching telenovelas, so I switched on the TV to help her feel better. Then the series turned out to be really interesting, and now I’m on the ninth episode."

He said it as though that was a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Faye looked at him for a few seconds, apparently wondering whether she should argue or simply accept that her best friend had somehow managed to turn babysitting into a personal movie marathon.

Instead, she turned back to Bambi.

"What I’m trying to say is that we’re friends, and as they say, bitches are going to come and go, but friends are for life."

Malo nodded thoughtfully.

"That’s a good one, except for Faye’s bitch. She’s permanent, like an adhesive. That Alpha ain’t going anywhere."

He shook his head as though he had just delivered some profound wisdom.

Faye bumped his shoulder, giving him a warning look.

"What? It’s true, right, Bambi?"

"Yes, that’s true. Faye is very lucky to have found the right person," Bambi replied, managing a small smile.

"And it was on the first try," Malo added.

"Hahaha!" Faye let out a fake laugh, glaring at him so hard that he should have understood the warning without another word. She then turned back to Bambi. "As I was saying..."

"There’s no need to say anything else, Faye. I understand." Bambi wiped her face one last time and took a deep breath. "Maybe she’s not the one, or maybe she is. No one knows. But the most important thing is me. I should learn to love myself first. I’m going to take care of myself, do the things I love, and become a better version of myself. That way, when the next person comes along, she’ll get the better version of me."

A small smile appeared on her face as she spoke, and although the sadness hadn’t completely disappeared from her eyes, she no longer looked as defeated as she had earlier. She was still hurting, but at least she was trying to find her way forward.

While the three of them were busy talking, the gym doors opened, and someone walked inside.

It was Sasha.

"Hey, Sasha! Welcome back. How was your bonding time with your sister?" Malo asked, immediately getting to his feet to welcome her.

"It wasn’t bonding. It was lectures and more lectures. That girl can never change, but I still love her." Sasha shook her head, looking thoroughly exhausted just from remembering it. She glanced at the others before asking, "So, what did I miss?"

"You missed a lot, girl," Malo began, looking as though he had been waiting for someone to tell the story to. "Faye entered Kiara’s mind to make a deal with a demon."

"Who actually turned out to be my brother from my past life," Faye added.

Malo turned towards her briefly before continuing.

"Night Walkers attacked, killed a Were-witch, and tried to kidnap Kiara. They failed because they got burned for some unknown reason. Then one of them killed Bambi, and Bambi resurrected. Kiara killed the Walkers while I ran for my dear life. And, news update, Kiara dumped Bambi."

He finished his explanation and looked at Sasha as if he had just delivered the day’s most important news.

Sasha stared at him, then looked around the gym as though she expected someone to tell her he was joking.

"That’s so much information. All that happened in one day?"

"Yes," Faye answered.

Sasha’s attention shifted to Bambi, who was now sitting quietly on the bench.

"Sorry about your breakup, Bambi. Honestly, we’re all glad it’s over."

"Sasha!" Faye called out sharply.

"What? It’s true! We even made a bet about that, and I need to call my girlfriend. I won!" Sasha announced, already reaching for her phone. Then, as though she had suddenly remembered something else worth mentioning, she added, "And by the way, guys, Haley and I are now in a long-distance relationship."

Faye’s eyebrows rose.

"What? Why?" she muttered.

"It turned out her dad wasn’t looking for a college for next year. She recently got accepted into a robotics college program. It’s a four-year program, but we’re going to see each other on screen and during the holidays," Sasha explained.

"Oh my God, two breakups in one day. That’s sick," Malo said, shaking his head in disbelief.

Sasha slowly turned to look at him.

"We’re still together, but it’s long-distance. It’s not a breakup, MG!"

"Looks like a breakup to me. I heard long-distance relationships are a no-no," Malo replied, looking completely convinced by his own argument.

Sasha stared at him for a moment before turning to Faye.

"Faye, please give me permission to beat the living hell out of this son of a moron."

"On it."

Bambi didn’t even hesitate. She swung her legs off the bench, got to her feet, and kicked Malo so hard that he went flying onto a treadmill.

"That’s my girl, Bambi!" Sasha cheered.

"You’re welcome, Sasha," Bambi replied.

Faye could only stare at her best friend as he struggled to get back on his feet, looking like he was beginning to regret every decision that had brought him into that gym.

"Faye, I think we need new friends who don’t beat me like some punching bag," Malo groaned as he finally managed to stand upright.

Faye reached out and gave him a hand.

"Maybe if you didn’t get on their nerves, they wouldn’t treat you like a punching bag."

Malo looked at her, clearly unimpressed by her advice, but before he could come up with another complaint, Sasha spoke again.

"By the way, guys, did you give Henry a timeout or something? Because I saw him on the roof when I was driving here."

"Oh God..." Faye muttered, slowly looking up at the ceiling as she wondered what Henry was doing on the building’s rooftop.
