Chapter 346: Chapter 47: Returning Home in Glory, Evil God Slayer
"...If it were just one person eating in the canteen who faintly heard some rustling, and then felt strange movements in their room after going to bed, it could be chalked up to auditory hallucinations from fatigue.
"But over the past week, I made a point of asking around in the Battle Banner Legion, and five people have reported nearly identical experiences. This definitely isn’t a coincidence."
"Legion Commander Mo Ning, that’s everything."
Potter’s thinking was exceptionally clear. In just half a minute, he gave a complete account of the strange incidents in the canteen.
Reina still vividly remembered the time Mo Ning had intimidated the last batch of newcomers in the canteen. She couldn’t help but interject, "This couldn’t be some kind of hidden test, could it?"
During that incident, Mo Ning had opened the canteen’s water wall in front of everyone and scooped out a fish with his own hands, so the Dazed Girl’s first thought was of a test.
Mo Ning, however, slowly shook his head. "It doesn’t sound much like a test."
He gazed at Potter, his expression turning uncharacteristically serious. "The phenomenon you’re describing reminds me of the ’Evil God’s Whisper.’"
The moment the two words "Evil God" left his lips, the air seemed to drop several degrees, and everyone flinched in shock.
To these newcomers, a being on the level of an Evil God was far too distant and far too terrifying.
If one of Them so much as pointed a finger at the dormitories, it would be enough to annihilate every single newcomer in an instant.
Mo Ning began to explain:
"According to the information I have, most people contaminated by the Power of an Evil God initially hear inexplicable whispers. This is the Evil God’s Whisper.
"The strangest part is, after hearing the whispers, many of the afflicted unconsciously force themselves to forget, or subconsciously dismiss it as the wind, the pipes, or noise from next door. They don’t think there’s anything abnormal at all.
"As the mental contamination deepens, strange phenomena begin to emerge. By that point, the situation is usually dire.
"An Evil God’s mark is planted deep within their psyche. This mark is incredibly tenacious and nearly impossible to remove completely.
"From that moment on, misfortune will cling to them like a shadow, until death finally claims them."
Mo Ning paused for a moment before voicing his suspicion:
"Considering Kanda and Semy, those two lackeys of a Dark Wizard, were lurking in the Newcomer Area for some time, it’s possible they were secretly behind what’s happening in the canteen."
The source of his information on the Evil God’s Whisper was, of course, the internal materials issued by the organization after he joined the Arbitration Court.
His division, the Fourth Arbitration Institute, was specifically tasked with combating Evil God Sects, so he was especially sensitive and attentive to any information related to Evil Gods.
His words were so horrifying that the faces of Anya and the other three newcomers turned pale.
Potter looked deeply unsettled. "Legion Commander, what should we do now?"
Mo Ning’s expression remained calm. "First, let’s clear out the nearby Monster Tribes. Then, I’ll go take a look at the canteen."
The canteen was, after all, a core area of the academy, protected by layers of powerful Witchcraft. A trace of an Evil God’s power might have seeped in, but it would be extremely difficult for it to spread to other areas. There was no need to panic just yet.
’Besides, since I’ve dragged all these "laborers" here, I should have them finish the job first.’
Potter, however, was confused. "How are you going to get to the canteen?"
According to the academy’s rules, once newcomers are promoted to Apprentices, they automatically lose permission to enter the Newcomer Area.
Anya chimed in at the perfect moment. "Legion Commander Mo Ning has joined the Arbitration Court. He’s been granted access to most areas in the academy."
Potter could only manage an "Ah," his perception completely shaken.
The newcomer was momentarily dazed. ’A First Level Apprentice can join the Arbitration Court? Is this Mr. Mo Ning standing before me really the same person as the Legion Commander I used to know?’
Princess Phoebe was equally astounded. Her beautiful eyes were fixed on Mo Ning, shining with disbelief.
A powerful feeling suddenly washed over her. ’Even though I haven’t seen him for just a short while, it feels like ages have passed... so long that everything about him has become unfamiliar, yet dazzling.’
"Time to work."
Mo Ning casually broke the silence. "Let’s deal with this batch of Muddy Earth Goblins first. They’re rich in Spiritual Materials, which makes them quite valuable."
As usual, he made a generous promise: "I’ll make sure you’re well-compensated."
"Alright!"
Princess Phoebe was the first to answer, her voice full of enthusiasm.
The others also beamed with delight.
Anya glanced at Princess Phoebe, lost in thought.
But the Noble Lady’s eyes held no hostility.
’If Mo Ning’s power were merely on par with Sitt’s, or just slightly superior, she would have unhesitatingly viewed Princess Phoebe as a threat.’
’But Mo Ning’s talent was so dazzling—practically a once-in-a-century prodigy—that it actually made her let go of the idea of treating the princess as a rival.’
’Mo Ning had access to too many resources, and his halo was just too bright. Countless women were bound to be drawn to him in the future.’
’That being the case, forming a Stable alliance ahead of time would be the smarter move.’
WHOOSH—WHOOSH—
Three Rotor Puppets zipped through the air, their blades emitting a low hum as they cut through the wind. They were busily hoisting the corpses of the Earth Goblins.
