Chapter 425: Chapter 221: What a Prestigious Gift

In their circles, connections were more important than ability.

It was like riding a market boom; even a pig could fly if it stood in the path of a strong wind.

"I’ve had the thought, but that boy, Su Chen, seems a little resistant. We’ll see... When the opportunity comes, I’ll introduce them. Whether there’s a spark between them or not will be up to them!"

Elder Jiang felt a little wistful. His impression of Su Chen was indeed quite good; the boy knew his place, was sensible, and good-looking to boot.

Upon hearing this, Elder Xiao nodded without saying anything more. In truth, he fully supported Elder Jiang’s idea. After all, no matter how good their relationship was, it couldn’t compare to the closeness of family.

’It’s just... playing matchmaker isn’t that simple.’ He knew that Su Chen was, in fact, a very guarded person, as if constantly afraid of being manipulated.

"Let’s talk about this later. It’s getting late, we should go back and rest. We have a lot on our plates these days!"

Since returning from Zheng Island, the two elders had been swamped with meetings to research and discuss the practical applications of controllable nuclear fusion. The military aspects, in particular, had taken a great deal of their time and effort.

Meanwhile, Su Chen was led by Huang Feng directly to the front courtyard. Su Chen saw Chen Fei standing at the entrance, chatting idly with the guard captain.

Upon seeing Su Chen and Huang Feng arrive, the guard captain immediately snapped to attention and saluted them.

"Open the main gate, and while you’re at it, open the door to garage number two," Huang Feng said to the guard captain, his tone flat.

"Yes, sir." The guard captain hurried over to a small guardhouse, performed a few operations on a computer, and the main gate opened automatically.

Seeing the automated gate, a flicker of surprise flashed in Su Chen’s eyes. ’So, the gate is automatic.’

"Mr. Su, after you," Huang Feng said, making a polite gesture with his left hand.

Su Chen nodded and walked out the gate. Chen Fei hurried to follow, not forgetting to give the guard captain a farewell wave as he left.

Once outside the courtyard house, he saw a small, lit building about ten meters to the left. That must be the garage number two Huang Feng had mentioned, he figured.

Sure enough, Huang Feng led Su Chen directly toward it.

A brand-new Hongqi sedan was parked quietly in the garage. As Su Chen glanced at the front of the car, he felt a strange sense of familiarity.

"Huh? Imperial-A00627... Elder Xiao really went to a lot of trouble!" Seeing the familiar numbers, a smile spread across Su Chen’s face. He hadn’t expected the old man to be so thoughtful.

’Not only did he get the license plate taken care of, he even picked one with my birthday.’

Su Chen pulled the key fob from his pocket and pressed a button.

CLICK. The headlights flashed twice, and Su Chen immediately pulled open the driver’s-side door and slid in.

He gave the interior a careful look-over and found that it was indeed identical to the one in Elder Xiao’s personal car that he’d ridden in before.

After fiddling with everything for a good three to five minutes, Su Chen finally got out of the car, looking as if he hadn’t had his fill yet. He casually tossed the keys to Chen Fei, who was standing nearby.

"Please give a message to the Elder for me. Tell him I appreciate his thoughtfulness," Su Chen said, looking at Huang Feng.

Huang Feng nodded silently in acknowledgment but didn’t say a word.

"Let’s go." Su Chen then opened the passenger door and got in. After all, he’d had a little to drink earlier. Even if it wasn’t much, he still had to be safety-conscious.

After pulling out of the garage, the car quickly disappeared down the alley.

"Sir, was this car a gift from Elder Xiao?" Chen Fei, who was driving, was also giddy with excitement. He kept caressing the steering wheel; if he hadn’t been driving, he would have wanted to explore every inch of the car’s interior.

Seeing Chen Fei’s behavior, Su Chen said with some exasperation, "Focus on driving. What if someone darts out into the street?"

At these words, Chen Fei immediately quieted down, though a hint of anticipation still lingered in his eyes.

It never once crossed his mind that a Rolls-Royce was still sitting out in the open, getting blasted by the cold night air.

...

Su Chen was leisurely feeding the koi in the central courtyard’s pavilion when Chen Fei came running in from the front yard.

"Sir! Young Master Cong and the others are here!"

Hearing this, he looked up toward the Hanging Flower Gate and saw a group of people walk in. There were quite a few of them, at least seven or eight in total.

Su Chen dusted the fish food from his hands and lifted Yuanbao, who had been sleeping on his lap, onto the table.

The moment he was placed on the table, Yuanbao woke up. The cat lifted its big, orange head and meowed twice at Su Chen, as if to ask, "Master, where are you going?"

Looking at the adorable cat, Su Chen smiled and patted its head. "Go find somewhere else to play. We have guests."

Unexpectedly, as if it understood Su Chen’s words, Yuanbao nuzzled its head against his palm twice, then hopped down from the table and waddled its portly self into the house.

Su Chen was left a bit speechless. ’I didn’t expect Yuanbao to be this smart.’

"Old Su!"

"Young Master Su!"

"Mr. Su!"

A chorus of different greetings rang in Su Chen’s ears. He looked away from where Yuanbao had disappeared and stood up from his lounge chair with a smile.

"Well, look at you all. Did you plan this?" A quick glance revealed that in addition to Cong and the others who had come to the Imperial Capital with him, Qin Fen, Hou Ting, and Chen Feiyu were also in the group.

He didn’t dwell on it, instead quickly calling for Chen Fei to bring some stools out from the inner room.

Deng Chao and Chen He, who had been standing at the back, voluntarily stepped forward and followed Chen Fei toward the inner room to help.
