Chapter 333: Chapter 190: San Francisco Half-Day Tour
"The world is for the public!" The gate to Chinatown was a massive plaque. As soon as Su Chen saw those words, two names flashed into his mind.
Hongmen, Zhi Gong Hall!
These two names held countless stories. Back then, their headquarters was located right in this famous Chinatown, the very one before Su Chen’s eyes.
"Tsk, tsk... how does this feel just like being back home?" Chen Fei looked around and saw that the vast majority of faces were Asian. From time to time, he could even hear snippets of Cantonese and Hakka.
"You’re not wrong about that," Su Chen said with a smile.
"You have to understand, San Francisco’s total population is only about eight hundred thousand, and people of Chinese descent make up twenty-one percent of that. That means about one in every five people you meet is one of our own."
Chen Fei was baffled by Su Chen’s explanation. He was just about to ask how Su Chen knew all that when he saw him already walking inside. Seeing this, Chen Fei hurried to catch up.
After passing through the gateway, a classic mural appeared on their right. The subject was none other than the renowned Bruce Lee. Besides Bruce Lee, the wall also depicted a soaring, five-clawed divine dragon. ’The symbolism of it all...’
Without a second thought, Su Chen pulled out his phone and snapped a few pictures, even asking Chen Fei to take a few of him with the mural.
The architectural style throughout Chinatown was somewhat reminiscent of early Xiangjiang. The distinctive signs, paired with neon lights, were particularly eye-catching.
Large red lanterns hung down the middle of the street, giving the whole district a festive air.
Su Chen saw some shops specializing in items with distinct Huaxia characteristics and couldn’t resist going in for a look. He discovered that the vast majority of the goods inside were shipped from Yiwu in Zhejiang Province.
This reminded Su Chen of the many tourists he’d read about online. They would travel to other countries, see all sorts of strange and wonderful things, and then spend a great deal of effort and money shipping them back home from thousands of kilometers away.
They would even show them off online, only for countless other users to point out that the items were all exports from Huaxia.
Who would have thought that after all that, the items would just come full circle?
DUM DUM DUM DUM~ DUM DUM!
DUM DUM~ DUM DUM~ DUM~ DUM~ DUM!
Just as they stepped out of the souvenir shop, the sound of rhythmic drumming rang out from nearby.
Curiosity is in the nature of all people from Huaxia, and Su Chen was no exception. He quickened his pace, heading toward the sound.
Soon, Su Chen found the source of the sound. Two adorable, large, red lions were leaping back and forth on stilts set up in the middle of the road.
A crowd of curious tourists and foreigners had gathered around, all holding up their phones and filming nonstop.
Su Chen watched for a while. Overhearing the chatter of some nearby Chinatown residents, he gathered that this was the daily training and performance of a lion dance troupe, which added a bit of fun to the neighborhood.
The whole of Chinatown was primarily made up of two streets. One was Du Ban Street, where Su Chen currently stood. It was filled with food stalls and snacks, mostly Cantonese style, which helped make up for the delicacies he had missed on his previous trip to Yangcheng City.
The other street was Dayton Street. Its most interesting feature was the trackless trolley lines that ran through the city center, which you could ride to enjoy the surrounding scenery.
Su Chen wandered for nearly two hours, exploring every corner of Chinatown. Besides sampling the snacks, he also bought plenty of interesting trinkets. He knew he could find them back home, but buying them here and now was all part of the fun.
On the way back, Chen Fei was laden with bags of all sizes. Anyone who saw them would have thought they were there to stock up on inventory.
