Chapter 306: Chapter 180: My World, I’m in Charge
After giving some minor instructions, Su Chen hung up. He thought for a moment before calling Professor Wu.
To Su Chen’s frustration, several calls went unanswered. Just as he was thinking Professor Wu might be in an experiment without his phone, the call finally connected.
Professor Wu sounded a little unhappy when he answered, saying he was busy testing some data and would hang up if it wasn’t important.
Without a second thought, Su Chen shot back, "Do you still want the follow-up chip data?"
Hearing this, Professor Wu immediately declared he wasn’t busy at all and cordially asked what instructions his boss had.
Su Chen got straight to the point, demanding that he and his researchers get proper rest—at least eight hours a day. Only after receiving Professor Wu’s repeated assurances did Su Chen end the call.
Su Chen knew this wouldn’t have much of an effect. For a dedicated researcher like Professor Wu, once he was absorbed in his work, a few words weren’t enough to make him put it down and rest.
Su Chen wasn’t expecting a miracle. ’If I can just get him to rest for an extra hour or two, that’s a win.’ He even emphasized that he had told Xiao Peng and the others to supervise. ’That should have some effect, right?’
The whole affair had driven away any sleepiness Su Chen had, so he figured he might as well get up.
As soon as he came downstairs, he saw a figure sitting on a chair in the back garden. A laptop sat on the table, and the person would occasionally tap the keyboard and take a couple of sips from a coffee mug beside them.
Su Chen looked at the figure in surprise. If he wasn’t mistaken, it was Ye Feng.
After making himself a cup of coffee with the machine, Su Chen headed toward the back garden.
"If those idle netizens saw the great young master of the Ye Group processing documents before dawn, their jaws would hit the floor!" Su Chen said teasingly as he sat down next to Ye Feng.
"To wear the crown, one must bear its weight. Everyone thinks the title of the Ye Group’s young master is all glamor, but the bitterness behind it... sigh..."
Ye Feng let out a long sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. He looked at Su Chen with some confusion and asked, "Why are you up?"
"You’re asking me? Look at you!" Su Chen said, taking a sip of his coffee. His brow instantly furrowed.
He placed it on the table with a look of disgust. The reason was simple... he’d forgotten to add sugar. The coffee was just too bitter.
Seeing Su Chen’s furrowed brow, Ye Feng burst out laughing. "Forgot to tell you—that’s coffee from Papua New Guinea. Its one and only characteristic is its extreme bitterness. I bought it specifically to keep myself awake."
Hearing this, Su Chen felt like smearing the coffee all over Ye Feng’s face.
"You people have some really intense tastes!" Not spitting it out was the last shred of dignity Su Chen could muster.
’Anyone who can be this cruel to themselves can’t possibly be incompetent.’
"It’s not so bad. Once you get used to it, you’ll find the taste is actually quite nice." As he spoke, Ye Feng picked up his own coffee and took another large gulp.
Su Chen watched Ye Feng down it without even wincing and silently gave him a thumbs-up.
"So, why are you up so early? Couldn’t sleep?" Ye Feng changed the subject, turning his gaze to Su Chen.
At this, Su Chen felt a bit helpless. He shook his head and said, "It’s nothing, just a small issue with the project in the Northeast. It’s already handled."
Ye Feng was curious. ’What kind of project would make Su Chen lose sleep, get up to solve it, and then not even want to go back to bed afterward?’ After all, the early morning hours are when it’s easiest to feel drowsy.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t be drinking such bitter coffee to stay awake himself.
In the end, Ye Feng didn’t ask. After all, everyone has their little secrets.
After chatting for a while, Su Chen decided not to disturb Ye Feng’s work any longer. Asking if he was hungry, Su Chen stood up and headed for the kitchen.
"Whoa, this kitchen is seriously well-equipped!"
The kitchen was divided into two sections: one for Chinese cuisine and one for Western. Su Chen glanced in the fridge and found it was quite well-stocked. After a quick look around, he decided to pan-sear a couple of steaks.
Soon, two well-done steaks were ready. He garnished them with a few sides and a sauce, and the job was done.
When Ye Feng saw the well-done steak in Su Chen’s hands, he laughed teasingly. "Do you order your steak well-done at restaurants too?"
Su Chen, of course, knew what he meant. He shrugged nonchalantly and said, "Of course. Rare, medium-rare—in my eyes, it’s no different from acting like a caveman. I’m a civilized person, so naturally, I eat my steak well-done!"
"Besides, in my world, I call the shots. It’s not for others to tell me what to do!" As he finished, Su Chen gave Ye Feng a meaningful look.
Ye Feng shuddered at his words. For some reason he fell completely silent, lost in thought.
Su Chen didn’t disturb him, silently picking up his knife and fork and beginning to eat. He even shook his head in satisfaction from time to time, as if to express how good his own cooking was.
After a good while, Ye Feng finally snapped out of it, only to find that Su Chen was already halfway through his steak.
"Sorry, you had to see me like that."
Su Chen just shook his head lightly. "Hurry up and eat. It won’t taste good cold."
Hearing this, Ye Feng closed his laptop, put it away, and picked up his knife and fork, digging in with gusto.
.......
Around eight o’clock, Sicong and Qin Fen finally crawled out of bed. As soon as they left their rooms, they heard the excited shouts of Su Chen and Ye Feng coming from downstairs.
