Chapter 685: True Dawn Begins!

  • Next Chapter

It was her presence.

The moment her boots stepped onto the wooden planks of the dais, the air in the square thickened. It was not the loud, roaring pressure of a battle-frenzy; it was a vast, subterranean, immovable gravity that pressed down upon the soul of every awakened being present.

Veylara didn’t brandish a weapon. She didn’t shout. She simply stepped to the edge of the stone platform and took a single, deep breath.

HUMMMMM.

An invisible, crushing dome of pure, unbridled physical density rolled outward from her body like an expanding wall of solid stone.

It washed over the high stairs. It washed over the platform and slammed into the front ranks of the square like a physical gale!

THUD. CLANG. CLATTER.

Instantly, the front three ranks of Layer 2 veterans dropped to their knees, their weapons clattering against the dirt as their hands involuntarily shook! The Layer 3 captains gasped, their chests heaving, their legs trembling violently as the terrifying, suffocating gravity pinned their boots to the ground!

The six elders stumbled backward, the polished canes nearly slipping from the palsied hands of few, their eyes bulging until the whites were completely exposed.

This was definitely not Layer 4.

This was not the fierce, mortal strength they had known and revered for a decade.

This was an abyss. An ocean of untamed essence humming with five distinct, overlapping layers of absolute authority... a density so profound that it warped the very sunlight passing over her bare, sun-kissed shoulders.

The faint, ghostly phantom of a white-and-crimson white tiger flickered behind her silhouette, its fangs bared, looking down upon the entire clan with the indifferent gaze of an apex god.

"Her... her core..."

Elder Bran... the same cantankerous old bastard who had been pacing near the edge of the platform and jumping around in agitation only moments ago... stammered so hard his withered tongue caught against his yellowed teeth.

His grip went completely slack. The polished oak cane that had always supported his bent frame slipped from his trembling fingers, tumbling end over end before clattering harmlessly against the packed dirt.

"This... this isn’t Layer 4," Bran choked out, his milky, rheumy eyes bulging until the red veins webbed across the whites. "The density... by the first root, it’s impossible! It cannot be!"

His entire body began to shake, a cold, violent tremor running from his shoulders straight down to his knees.

He simply refused to believe it. It wasn’t merely the stubborn shock of an old man having his expectations shattered; his dried-up brain physically rejected the concept.

To the elders of the Veynar, Layer 4 Peak was not just a military rank or a personal milestone... it was the unbending ceiling of the heavens themselves.

It was the immutable law carved into the very rocks of the northern basin. Generation after generation of mighty chieftains had bashed their heads bloody against that exact barrier, only to wither, grow brittle, and rot into the grave without ever catching a glimpse of what lay beyond the clouds.

Most of the council members, Bran included, had spent sixty long winters clawing through the mud and still hadn’t managed to break through the gate of Layer 4.

They sat huddled at late Layer 3, their spiritual channels rigid with age, without any chance now, treating Layer 4 titans like demigods to be flattered and appeased.

For Veylara to not just touch that legendary threshold, but to smash clean through it and stand as something entirely beyond comprehension? The very foundation of Bran’s understanding of the world was crumbling right before his eyes. How could he not be surprised.

Yet, despite his screeching and his sour temper, nobody in the square moved to silence the old man.

Bran could be an insufferable, sharp-tongued asshole nine days out of ten. He was an obnoxious, stubborn traditionalist who whined about every minor deviation from ancient ritual, clutching ancestral precedents like a beggar clutching copper coins.

But unlike Thorne and that rotten cabal of treacherous conspirators... whose severed heads had already been fed to the mountain crows after Sol gutted their treasonous plots... Bran’s hands were clean of betrayal.

When Thorne had secretly sent messengers bearing rich gifts to join their camps, Bran had personally beaten the messenger out of his tent with his oak cane, spitting on the ground and cursing them for dishonoring the dead.

He was bitter, narrow-minded, and loud, but his stubborn loyalty belonged entirely to the survival of the Veynar. He was an asshole, certainly, but he was their asshole.

And right now, that thick, unyielding tribal traditionalism was doing everything it could to keep him from falling flat on his face as the sheer, suffocating truth washed over him: the world he had lived in for seventy winters had just ceased to exist.

On the other hand, ignoring all kinds of surprised stunned gazes, Veylara stopped at the edge of the dais, her hands resting naturally on her hips.

Her gaze swept slowly across the thousands of upturned, terrified faces, lingering for a fraction of a second on Sol, whose lips twitched with a knowing smirk, before addressing her people.

Her head tilted back slightly, looking out over the sprawling lands of the north, and when she spoke, her voice carried the weight of an unshakeable mountain:

"Warriors of the Veynar."

The words echoed across the tribe, carrying that layered, harmonic resonance that vibrated directly through the bones of every man, woman, and child in the square, echoing off like thunder.

"As you know the Coalition of the three tribes is dead. The Zharun are crushed. The whole Northern Orrath region belongs to our spears."

She paused, letting the silence stretch, before her eyes flared with rings of brilliant, liquid sapphire.

"And last night... I had broken the ancient ceiling of this land."

She released a fraction of her aura.

BOOM.

An invisible shockwave of pure, pristine Fifth Layer authority swept across the square!

Every awakened warrior dropped involuntarily to one knee, gasping for air as their instincts screamed total, absolute submission. Even the proud, stubborn elders fell to their knees, their bodies trembling under the realization of what stood before them.

"I stand before you as the sovereign of the Fifth Layer," Veylara proclaimed, her voice ringing out with glorious, undeniable supremacy under the bright morning sun. "The Veynar will bend the knee to no tribe, no force, and no enemy ever again. Today... our true dawn begins!"
