Chapter 1356: 1355 Liberation
Mo Xiuchen glanced at Wen Jin, his large hand gently resting on Wen Ran’s shoulder, softly massaging it, “What could Ranran possibly want to discuss with you? It’s definitely about Jing Xiaocha.”
“Besides that, there’s something else.”
Wen Ran laughed lightly as she explained.
“What’s the matter?” Mo Xiuchen grew curious, squinting slightly as he looked at Wen Ran with a puzzled expression.
Wen Jin gracefully ate an apple, his gaze gentle as he watched her, showing no urgency.
“My brother sent Yiyi a message saying he’s gone on a trip and won’t be back for a week.” Bai Yiyi’s words made Wen Jin and Mo Xiuchen simultaneously surprised, “Ah Kai went on a trip?”
“Ranran, I don’t even know about Ah Kai’s trip. Why are you asking me?” Wen Jin’s eyes flickered, seemingly unsure of her meaning.
“I heard that Li En has been wanting to meet him. But yesterday, Yiyi went to see Li En. Brother, could you call Lu Zhiyan and see if he knows why? This morning, when I received Yiyi’s call, I called my father. Turns out he said my brother wasn’t on a trip; he’s actually on vacation.”
“Ranran, are you suggesting that Ah Kai might have met Li En, and Li En said something to him? Is that it?”
Wen Jin’s handsome face carried a hint of worry, his brows slightly furrowing.
Although Mo Xiuchen had not known beforehand, upon hearing this, he too pieced things together. His gaze probingly landed on Wen Jin, “You knew Li En wanted to see Ah Kai all along?”
“Yes, back at the police station when Zhiyan brought it up, I didn’t agree to it.” Wen Jin paused briefly, “I’ve always felt Li En seeing Ah Kai wouldn’t lead to anything good. Listening to Ranran now, it seems Ah Kai most likely has met with Li En.”
Saying he was suddenly leaving, telling Bai Yiyi he was on a trip.
But Uncle Gu said he’s on vacation. This suggests that Gu Kai’s departure is suspicious.
“What could Li En possibly have told Ah Kai?” Mo Xiuchen frowned, mulling it over, and said, “It must be related to Bai Yiyi. Li En likes Bai Yiyi to an obsessive extent; he’s definitely going to sabotage Ah Kai and Bai Yiyi somehow.”
Wen Ran let out a light sigh, “If it’s related to Yiyi, then it’s tied to me, tied to what happened back then. My brother has always been hung up on the past. It took so much for him to open up and confess to Yiyi. Li En, that scumbag, is simply despicable.”
“Ranran, don’t get upset. Let’s figure out the origins of this matter first. Ah Jin, give Lu Zhiyan a call.”
“Alright.”
Wen Jin took out his phone and dialed Lu Zhiyan’s number.
“Hello, Ah Jin.” After a few rings, Lu Zhiyan’s deep voice came through.
“Zhiyan, did Ah Kai meet with Li En?”
Wen Jin glanced at Wen Ran’s worried face and calmly asked.
“Yes, this morning Li En threatened me with suicide, so I had no choice but to call Gu Kai. He came eventually.”
“What did Li En say to him?”
Wen Jin’s expression shifted slightly, his tone carrying a trace of somberness.
“It was about Fu Jingyi’s incident years ago. I don’t know the specifics, but Gu Kai was extremely emotional at the time and nearly choked Li En to death. Why? Did he go back to trouble Bai Yiyi after that?”
Lu Zhiyan’s concerned inquiry came through from the other end of the line.
Wen Jin pressed his lips together and said gravely, “No, Ah Kai disappeared entirely. His phone is off, and we can’t reach him.”
“I see. He might need time to calm down. Actually, if he and Bai Yiyi weren’t romantically involved in the first place, then whatever Li En said wouldn’t have any effect on him.”
“Bullshit!” Wen Jin cursed irritably, “Li En’s intentions are clear; he just can’t stand seeing Ah Kai and Bai Yiyi happy together. You brought Ah Kai to meet him, and he told you everything he knew?”
“Yes.”
Lu Zhiyan picked up on Wen Jin’s irritation and continued, “Luckily, I got Gu Kai to come see him. That lunatic Li En had other plans too. If he hadn’t told me what they were, then incidents like the ones a few days ago might just repeat…”
“What do you mean?”
Hearing this, Wen Jin’s face changed visibly.
“Just what you think it means. It’s actually something taught by his mentor, Fu Jingyi, back in the day—some sort of virus…”
Lu Zhiyan briefly explained, mostly outlining how Li En, while in prison, found a way to connect with the outside world using assistance from a government official he used to be associated with.
After hanging up, Wen Jin recounted what Lu Zhiyan had told him over the phone.
Upon hearing his words, Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen both showed expressions of shock, “Li En really died?”
“Yes, he’s finally free. He said he didn’t want to live a life locked in darkness forever, nor did he want to love a woman who didn’t love him anymore. So after saying whatever divisive words he did to Ah Kai, he ended his own life.”
“I find it hard to believe. He hated my brother so much and hated Yiyi so much too. How could he die so easily?”
It was far too unexpected.
“Maybe he truly didn’t want to continue living that kind of life—a lifetime of pain and imprisonment. Li En had that kind of extreme personality; death might actually be better for him.”
Mo Xiuchen furrowed his brows, speaking coolly.
If Li En had continued to live, his revenge would undoubtedly surpass anything Fu Jingyi had dared to try back then.
Because living a life like that would only deepen his hatred further.
“Brother, did you say Li En committed suicide?”
“Yes, it was suicide. I didn’t ask exactly how he did it, and Zhiyan didn’t go into detail either. He merely said Li En died about half an hour after Ah Kai left the hospital.”
Wen Ran nodded thoughtfully, her eyes flickering with contemplation. “Li En is dead, and Lu Zhiyan doesn’t know what he said to my brother. If we want to uncover the truth, we’ll have to find my brother first.”
“Ranran, let’s give Ah Kai a few days to calm down. If he doesn’t want us to reach out, we probably won’t be able to get ahold of him for now.”
Wen Jin tried to reassure Wen Ran, not wanting her to worry.
Mo Xiuchen’s hand around Wen Ran’s shoulder tightened slightly, and his voice softened, “Ranran, Ah Kai managed to let go of his past burdens and be with Bai Yiyi before, and he’ll definitely be able to get through this too.”
“He and Yiyi worked so hard to overcome their past grievances and start a relationship. I’m really scared that whatever Li En said will…”
“It won’t happen; Ah Kai and Yiyi still have Tongtong between them. Don’t forget how clever and endearing little Tongtong is. With her around, there’s no way things between Ah Kai and Yiyi will remain strained forever.”
Wen Jin spoke with confident certainty.
Hearing his assurance and recalling adorable little Tongtong, Wen Ran’s worries genuinely eased a little. Her lips curled into a faint smile, “Let’s hope so. But even so, I still want to get in touch with him soon.”
“Leave it to me. I’ll find a way to contact Ah Kai.”
Mo Xiuchen volunteered, determined to spare his wife any unnecessary stress.
Wen Ran evidently trusted Mo Xiuchen deeply. Upon hearing his promise to contact Gu Kai, she immediately felt reassured. “Xiuchen, when you do reach my brother, make sure to tell me. I’ll talk to him myself.”
Mo Xiuchen chuckled softly, “Of course. Who else would I tell if not you?”
