Chapter 1350: 1349 Too much jealousy, so bitter.

“A woman?”

On the other end of the phone, Bai Yiyi’s voice carried a hint of surprise.

Gu Kai chuckled. “That’s what Fang Zhiwei said.”

“Could it be that intern from your hospital, Wei Jingshan?” Bai Yiyi hesitated slightly, her voice tinged with doubt and uncertainty.

Upon hearing this, Gu Kai raised an elegant eyebrow. “I was thinking it might be her too.”

Leaning his tall frame against the sofa, Gu Kai switched his phone to his other hand and said soothingly, “Qian Songnan’s remarks implied that Fang Zhiwei is not as easygoing as he is. If Fang Zhiwei finds out she publicly clarified things for you at the press conference, only for you to have someone intimidate her afterward…”

“That’s what he said to me on the phone that noon. I was furious then—I even told him to do something good for his son’s sake.”

Bai Yiyi was taken aback by Gu Kai’s words.

“Do you know where he was when he made that call?”

Gu Kai narrowed his gaze, a thin layer of coolness gathering in his eyes.

“I don’t know. His son was hospitalized at Kangning Hospital during that time. It’s possible he made the call from there,” Bai Yiyi recalled the call as she paused, adding, “It was definitely a quiet environment—aside from his voice, I didn’t hear any other sounds.”

“Hmm. Zhiyan will explain the situation to Fang Zhiwei tonight, so she won’t question it further. Do you want to join us?”

Gu Kai asked calmly.

“You’re not curious why I’m spending time with Lu Zhiyan?”

Gu Kai snorted lightly, “You’re out working all the time. If I had to question you every time you interacted with another man, wouldn’t I die of jealousy?”

“Jealousy?”

Bai Yiyi couldn’t help laughing.

“Exactly—too much jealousy, and I’d be overwhelmed.” Gu Kai’s lips curved slightly, his voice low and calm. “I understand you went to see Li En.”

“You arranged dinner with Lu Zhiyan, and it’s likely Fang Zhiwei will join as well. I’ll pass—I’ll head home and have dinner with Tongtong.”

Bai Yiyi didn’t respond directly to Gu Kai’s comment and instead shifted the topic.

Gu Kai didn’t press further. “Alright, I won’t be late. It’s better for Zhiyan to explain things to Fang Zhiwei; after all, he’s a police officer. My words might be more susceptible to her doubts.”

Gu Kai and Fang Zhiwei didn’t go to Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion together.

It seemed like Fang Zhiwei deliberately distanced herself from him, not wanting to provoke his resentment. She arrived at Yi Pin Xuan early since Gu Kai had already booked a room, heading straight up to the third floor.

Unexpectedly, Lu Zhiyan—who had mentioned he was busy—turned out to be the earliest one there.

Seeing Fang Zhiwei arrive alone, a trace of surprise flickered in Lu Zhiyan’s eyes, followed by a quick glance behind her in search of Gu Kai’s figure. Not finding him, he offered a polite smile, hesitated for a moment, and then courteously pulled out a chair for her. “Please have a seat, Miss Fang.”

Fang Zhiwei returned his gesture with a gentle smile. “Thank you, Officer Lu.”

Her uncle worked at the police station and had met Lu Zhiyan once or twice. Most of her impressions of him came from conversations with her uncle, who praised his exceptional capabilities.

“Gu Kai didn’t come with you?”

Lu Zhiyan poured Fang Zhiwei a glass of water and returned to his seat.

Fang Zhiwei thanked him, then responded to his question, “No. I left the hospital earlier, and Ah Kai—he had patients to tend to; he’s quite busy.”

Lu Zhiyan glanced at his wristwatch, slightly furrowing his brow with mild dissatisfaction. “This guy invites people out to dinner and ends up being the last to arrive.”

Fang Zhiwei gave a soft laugh. “We’re just early; it’s not even 6:30 yet.”

“True enough. Miss Fang, since Ah Kai isn’t here yet, I’ll go ahead and discuss that case with you.”

Leaning back into his chair, Lu Zhiyan rested a hand on the glass before him, speaking with an air of casualness.

“Alright.”

Fang Zhiwei nodded in affirmation, signaling her attention.

Lu Zhiyan slightly leaned forward and pulled his phone from his pocket. “For convenience, I didn’t bother with protocol—I didn’t bring the case file but just took a few pictures. Here are some signatures they provided; have a look.”

A flicker of surprise crossed Fang Zhiwei’s eyes as she accepted Lu Zhiyan’s phone, inwardly noting his seemingly casual demeanor.

Lu Zhiyan elegantly sipped his water, his gaze calm as he watched Fang Zhiwei examine the images on his phone. Only after she finished looking did he calmly remark, “Among these individuals is Zhang Jinlei, one of the suspects in this medical incident.”

“You mean Zhang Jinlei, the one who perpetrated the crime with his wife?” Fang Zhiwei asked, visibly startled.

Lu Zhiyan nodded. “That’s him. The later images show their photos—see if this group matches.”

Fang Zhiwei flipped through the subsequent pictures. Spotting their faces, she recalled the events of that night. Her expression changed subtly. “Officer Lu, it’s them. So, this means Qian Songnan ordered them to do this, correct?”

“Yes. Qian Songnan ended up at the station last night, but he was transported back to his home city this morning. Hand me the phone—I want you to listen to a recording.”

Lu Zhiyan leaned forward, reaching out to retrieve his phone, his long fingers deftly navigating the device until Qian Songnan’s voice echoed from it: “Indeed, I instigated the punishment for Fang Zhiwei.”

“You punished Fang Zhiwei to frame Bai Yiyi and use it as leverage against her, correct?”

The voice belonged to Lu Zhiyan. Fang Zhiwei, who had been focused on the phone, looked up at Lu Zhiyan upon hearing him speak.

Noticing her gaze, Lu Zhiyan faintly smiled, casually toying with his water glass.

The interrogation wasn’t lengthy—just a handful of sentences during which Qian Songnan admitted to his actions, intended as a means to threaten Bai Yiyi. “Because of the delicate dynamics between you, Gu Kai, and Bai Yiyi, Qian Songnan assumed that, regardless of whether Bai Yiyi was involved, he could still hold it over her.”

“Are you suggesting I’d believe anything Qian Songnan says?” Fang Zhiwei furrowed her brows, detecting the underlying insinuations in Lu Zhiyan’s words.

He seemed to suggest that women were inherently suspicious and prone to jealousy.

Lu Zhiyan didn’t deny it; rather, he shrugged in an innocent manner, placing his glass back onto the table and remarking indifferently, “You visiting the police station this afternoon proves Qian Songnan gambled correctly.”

Fang Zhiwei’s expression shifted, becoming slightly unpleasant. “I went to you to ensure that troublemaker’s efforts at sowing discord wouldn’t succeed, so I asked about that night’s events.”

Lu Zhiyan smiled faintly, indifferent to her defense.

To Fang Zhiwei, Lu Zhiyan’s smile seemed tinged with mockery, causing a flicker of anger in her heart. Even if she was suspicious of Bai Yiyi, it wasn’t any of Lu Zhiyan’s business, so why should he make fun of her?

“You’re thinking that even if you doubted Bai Yiyi, it doesn’t concern me, and I shouldn’t ridicule you—right?” If Fang Zhiwei had been merely annoyed earlier, Lu Zhiyan’s perceptive comment infuriated her entirely.

“Officer Lu, don’t you think it’s rude to speculate about other people’s thoughts like this? What gives you the right to claim to know what I’m thinking?”
