“You think my thoughts are sordid?” Bai Yiyi furrowed her brows and looked at him with an unhappy expression.

Gu Kai chuckled and said, “All I said was to stay here tonight, and you immediately started talking about how you don’t like cohabiting with a man before marriage. This villa isn’t even limited to just one room. I didn’t say staying here meant I’d do anything with you.”

Bai Yiyi raised her hands in surrender, “I can’t argue with you. Whatever you say seems to make sense. I’m tired; I’m going inside to sleep now. Drive safely.”

After she spoke, she opened the car door and got out.

“Bai Yiyi, I’m the landlord, you know,” Gu Kai protested unhappily. He couldn’t even spend a night in his own house?

“I paid ten years’ rent, so you being the landlord doesn’t matter.”

With that, Bai Yiyi slammed the car door shut.

Inside, she went upstairs first to check on Tongtong in the children’s room. Tongtong was sound asleep.

Bai Yiyi leaned down, planted a kiss on Tongtong’s cheek, pulled the blanket over her, and told the nanny to rest as well before heading to her own room to take a shower.

After showering, she lay down on the bed, but sleep refused to come.

The words Gu Kai said tonight kept replaying in her mind, stirring up her emotions. As she bit her lip, she recalled that kiss and felt her face immediately heat up.

Raising her hands to cup her cheeks, she closed her eyes and commanded herself, “Stop overthinking this!”

Suddenly, the phone on her bedside table vibrated. Bai Yiyi reached over to pick it up, and seeing the caller ID, a subtle smile curved her lips.

She deliberately waited a moment before pressing the answer button. Her voice flowed softly from her lips: “Hello.”

“I’m home. Are you asleep yet?”

Gu Kai’s voice came through the phone and burrowed into her ears. Her heart, completely disobedient, started racing faster, leaving Bai Yiyi frustrated with her inexplicable feelings.

But she had no idea how to stop them.

“I was just about to sleep. You should rest early too.”

She furrowed her brows, sensing that Gu Kai had unsettled her emotions and felt an inexplicable annoyance toward him.

“What’s wrong? You’re not upset about what I said earlier, are you?” Gu Kai picked up on her tone and asked curiously over the phone.

Bai Yiyi immediately restrained her emotions and replied with a voice as calm as water, “No. It’s late now. Goodnight.”

“Bai Yiyi, I didn’t finish saying everything just now.”

“Whatever it is, say it tomorrow. I really need to sleep now. Staying up too late ages you faster.” Bai Yiyi said her piece and decisively hung up.

She stared at the call duration displayed on the screen and, feeling a bit ridiculous, laughed to herself.

“Bai Yiyi, you’re crazy! It’s just dating, just falling in love. Why are your emotions swinging like this?”

Throwing the phone onto the bedside table, Bai Yiyi slid her body flat on the bed, pulled the blanket over her eyes, and forced herself to sleep.

Despite Bai Yiyi telling Gu Kai not to come pick her up,

he showed up the next morning anyway, bringing Tongtong’s favorite breakfast.

After having breakfast with them, Gu Kai offered to drive Bai Yiyi to work. She refused, insisting on driving herself.

“Rock, paper, scissors. If you lose, you obediently get in the car. If you win, I get to drive you.”

Gu Kai suggested a “fair” solution, which Bai Yiyi found childish but agreed to anyway.

“Just one round to decide.” She said as she hid her hand behind her back so he couldn’t see her choice.

Gu Kai sneered confidently as he looked at her.

When they both revealed their hands, Bai Yiyi’s fist countered Gu Kai’s scissors. Bai Yiyi raised her brows smugly, her bright smile shining as she declared, “I win! You don’t need to drive me; I’ll go by myself.”

As soon as she said that, her wrist was suddenly grabbed by Gu Kai. “If you win, I’ll drive you,” he repeated his earlier words with a laugh, sly like a fox.

Bai Yiyi blinked and protested, “You’re cheating! You clearly said if I lose, I get in your car, but if I win…”

“If you win, then what?”

Gu Kai narrowed his eyes, a mischievous smile playing at his lips.

“You’re so conniving!” Bai Yiyi frowned, feeling exasperated.

“I said, if you lose, you obediently get in the car. If you win, I’ll drive you. You’re not deaf yet, are you? You’re smart enough, so surely your IQ isn’t an issue. Own up to your bet; let’s go, I’ll take you to work.”

Gu Kai laughed heartily.

Bai Yiyi glared at him irritably.

Ignoring her anger, Gu Kai took her out of the villa, only to run into Wen Ran coming their way.

“Brother, Yiyi, are you two heading to work? Yiyi, what’s wrong? Did my brother bully you again?”

From the smile in Wen Ran’s eyes, Bai Yiyi would have believed she was concerned for her if not for that telltale glint. Clearly, Wen Ran wasn’t worried; she just wanted to enjoy the drama.

Gu Kai replied with a smile, “I didn’t bully her. She wanted to bet with me but then wanted to take it back after losing.”

“What kind of bet?” Wen Ran’s curiosity was piqued, and she glanced at the nearby Maybach. “Brother, did you sleep here last night?”

“Ranran, you agree that as the landlord, I have the right to stay here, don’t you?” Gu Kai seized Wen Ran’s comment to criticize Bai Yiyi. “But tenants can be more formidable than landlords, so I came over this morning instead.”

“Ranran, you’re here just in time to judge for us. Earlier, your brother said we’d play rock, paper, scissors. If I won, I’d drive, but after I won, he cheated.”

Bai Yiyi believed Wen Ran was fair and wouldn’t take Gu Kai’s side just because he was her brother.

Wen Ran smiled cheekily at Gu Kai, “Brother, is that true?”

“Of course not. What I said was, if she loses, she gets in the car, and if she wins, I’ll drive her. That was my exact wording.”

Gu Kai raised a brow smugly and grinned. “That’s what I said.”

“Brother, why don’t you just let Yiyi drive herself to work? Forcing someone to take your car isn’t good manners.”

Wen Ran actually sided with Bai Yiyi.

Bai Yiyi immediately smiled and shot Gu Kai a resentful glare before pulling her hand free from his grip. “Ranran is the best! Ranran, are you here to pick up Tongtong?”

“Yes.”

“Come on, I’ll go with you. You head to the hospital first, and I’ll go to work afterwards.” Bai Yiyi said this, tugging Wen Ran back into the living room.
