First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3141 - Boiling Snow to Brew Tea
The Unfettered Continent, before Snowy Gale Mountain.
A dense sea of cultivators blanketed the landscape, stretching beyond the horizon. There was no end in sight.
Moreover, more and more cultivators rushed over from afar to bolster their ranks. Some flew in on beams of light, while others rode magical treasures, divine birds, or magic ships. The air was vibrant with beams of light in all the colors of the rainbow.
Countless cultivators sighed over the spectacle.
There’d been numerous grand and shocking occasions over the course of the Eternal Heavens Domain’s history, but there’d never been a spectacle as grand as this one!
Cultivators were gathering from all over the world. Some were rogue cultivators; others were famous back home. Either way, they were now just another face in the crowd.
Experts were as numerous as carp in a river. All of them were here to bear witness to the grand re-opening of the Heart-Tempering Sword House.
There was still a day left until the ceremony, but the surrounding several tens of thousands of miles were completely covered in a sea of people!
“Aren’t any of you afraid to die? If a battle breaks out while we’re all crowded in like this, none of us will escape!” someone said with concern.
“It’s not that we aren’t afraid to die, but that if a battle between Heavenly Sovereigns breaks out, it won’t matter where we are. We still won’t escape,” someone else said softly.
“Ancient records describe the battle that ended the Devastation. The Heavenly Sovereigns’ battlefield was the very firmament itself, as it was only there that they could display their full power,” someone explained. “That means that so long as we aren’t stupid enough to fly up there to watch the battle, we needn’t fear the aftershock.”
Only then did those around him feel enlightened.
“That isn’t necessarily the case. When the power of a Heavenly Sovereign so much as leaks out of their bodies, it can destroy entire landscapes, overturning everything on all sides. We absolutely cannot afford to get complacent,” someone else warned. “If a battle breaks out, we have to retreat as quickly as possible; the further the better.”
Similar discussions took place throughout the crowd. It was obvious that by now, everyone realized that the re-establishment of the Heart-Tempering Sword House would lead to a battle between Heavenly Sovereigns!
Now, the world’s elites had gathered here. Naturally, they wanted to bear witness to this historic battle!
Someone sighed. “No matter who wins, Su Yi’s name will go down in the annals of history. He’ll be a legend spoken of for ten thousand generations to come.”
Many sought to leave behind a lasting legacy, but how many in the course of the River of Destiny’s long history had truly left their mark?
But this was different. This was to be the largest, most unpredictable battle of Heavenly Sovereigns since the Devastation!
Meanwhile, atop the peak of Snowy Gale Mountain.
Flurries danced in the frigid gales.
The forces of Divine Reverence Pavilion had long since sealed the area off. No one could set foot on the mountain’s slopes.
Su Yi sat in a wicker chair, a little clay furnace beside him. A teapot burbled atop it, the soothing fragrance of tea wafting into the air.
Ruo Su tended to the teapot, leisurely and relaxed. She was accompanied by Ling Ran and the Qiongqi Mountain Lord, while Su Yi was accompanied by Lu Ye, Luo Yan, Pu Xuan, Hua Qingyi, and Ku Xuan.
They were the only people here.
When the frigid gales blew toward them, they instantly mellowed, the snowfall suddenly soft and gentle.
“Little Brother, you’re just going to keep waiting like this until tomorrow?” Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan couldn’t help but ask.
Even after all this time, he saw no sign of Su Yi making any arrangements, traps, plans, or preparations.
He said he was going to re-establish the Heart-Tempering Sword House, but this snow-covered mountain lacked even a single blessed ground for cultivation. It had no buildings or facilities of any kind!
“A drunk isn’t really thinking about his wine,” Su Yi said with a laugh. “Surely you don’t think I’m really going to make this place the Heart-Tempering Sword House’s new home base?”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan sighed. “I naturally understand all that. What I don’t understand is what exactly you’re up to!”
It wasn’t just him. Ruo Su aside, everyone else here was confused.
Su Yi saw this, but all he said was, “Tomorrow, I’d like you and Fellow Daoist Qingyi to serve as Lu Ye and Luo Yan’s Dao Protectors. You needn’t worry about anything else.”
Both Heavenly Sovereigns were stunned. Is that really the extent of his plans?
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan took a deep breath. “Little Brother, surely you don’t plan to fight all those old-timers single-handedly?”
Su Yi laughed. “Why shouldn’t I?”
The group exchanged glances. None of them said anything, but inwardly, they weren’t the least bit calm.
Ruo Su carried over the teapot and poured herself and Su Yi each a cup of tea. “This is a battle between Heavenly Sovereigns. Ultimately, plots and schemes are lesser Daos. When the fighting begins...”
She pointed into the heavens. “It’ll happen up there.”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan said gravely, “But senior, what if our enemies split up? What if half of them attack Su Yi and the other half try their utmost to disrupt Lu Ye and Luo Yan’s tribulations? What are we supposed to do then?”
Su Yi said casually, “I’ll kill the enemies. They can break through when I’m done.”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan shook his head slightly, then asked the most critical question. “But how could you possibly handle them all alone?”
Su Yi said softly, “Just watch. When the fighting really begins, there’s no way they’ll all attack me at once.”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan opened his mouth to speak, then trailed off. In the end, he just sighed. “Everyone is saying you’ve gone insane. I didn’t take them seriously at first, but now... I’m starting to believe it.”
Su Yi couldn’t help but laugh. He got up and patted Ku Xuan on the shoulder. “I won’t lie to you, Brother. When I made these arrangements, I never even considered relying on anyone else’s power!”
And indeed, he meant every word.
After the Struggle for Heavenly Fate, his inadequate strength meant that he could only watch as others fought to determine his fate. The situation had been entirely out of his control.
The same was true in the Sea of Fate.
Thus, while those battles had helped Su Yi vent his anger, he’d yet to soothe his hatred. After all, he hadn’t killed his enemies himself. Ultimately, that just wasn’t satisfying.
Back in the Abyss of Endless Tribulations, the Monarch of Endless Tribulations’ true body sneered at him over this. He said that the only reason Su Yi had lived this long was that he had a sufficiently powerful background.
Su Yi wasn’t offended per se, but he was still a bit indignant; there was no avoiding that.
Things would be different this time.
When he made his plans, he had just one goal in mind. He wanted to end things with his enemies with his own two hands!
He swept his gaze across the group. “You needn’t ask any further questions. Tomorrow, all will become clear.”
The others fell silent.
Su Yi, meanwhile, returned to his wicker chair, had a sip of tea, and started chatting about cultivation with Ruo Su, who responded while brewing tea from melted snow. Together, they had a unique, steady quality about them, which gradually influenced the others present.
There was a calm before every storm.
Or at least, it was easy to say that, but how many could truly remain calm at times like these?
At the very least, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan and Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi weren’t truly calm. The others naturally weren’t either.
Ling Ran silently turned to gaze into the distant sea of cultivators. It extended further than the eye could see.
All eyes beneath the heavens were watching what happened here, and all mouths beneath the heavens were discussing what was to come.
Yet the mountaintop was serene. Those most directly involved acted like mere bystanders.
Suddenly, an irrepressible eagerness arose in Ling Ran’s heart. Just how magnificent will Su Yi be in the face of tomorrow’s danger?
Time slipped by. Night fell, then gave way to dawn.
When the first light of the new day pierced the darkness, illuminating the mountains and rivers, Heavenly Sovereigns Ku Xuan and Qingyi sensed something. Both peered into the distant dome of heaven.
When Heavenly Sovereigns moved, they inevitably resonated with the Laws of the Grand Dao.
Now, a whole group of them had appeared in the Unfettered Continent, and all of them were shooting toward Snowy Gale Mountain.
They didn’t disguise their presence, either, so their movements triggered all manner of strange phenomena throughout the skies of the Unfettered Continent.
Lightning interwove, firelight swept outward, dragons roared, and arcs of light flew forth in waves...
An indescribable pressure of the Grand Dao enveloped the entire Unfettered Continent. Every living being on the continent felt horror rise in their heart.
The countless cultivators waiting near Snowy Gale Mountain were instantly startled. All of them craned their necks and peered into the firmament. The Heavenly Sovereigns... have arrived!
Even though they couldn’t see those grand figures for themselves yet, all of them knew the Heavenly Sovereigns were fast approaching.
The discussions came to an abrupt halt. All was silent and still.
The imposing presence of the Grand Dao only intensified over time. It was already shifting the mysteries of the heavens!
Meanwhile, on the mountaintop.
Su Yi was still seated in his wicker chair. He just glanced at the dome of heaven, then said, “Fellow Daoist, to avoid suspicion, I’ll have to ask you to take Miss Ling Ran and the Qiongqi Mountain Lord and leave for the time being.”
Ruo Su smiled and shook her head. “There’s no rush. It’s not just the Heavenly Sovereigns; several Secluded Ones are on their way, too.”
Su Yi blinked, but he wasn’t actually all that surprised. “They aren’t even going to hide? It seems they want to announce their intentions to me directly.”
Ruo Su said, “You don’t want anyone from the Far Shore to interfere, and they don’t want anyone like me getting involved, either. It’s all perfectly understandable.”
She’d only just said this when rumbling emanated from afar. One grand figure after another approached as if walking straight out of a legend, then stopped in the skies just beyond Snowy Gale Mountain.
Everything fell silent on all sides. Every cultivator in the surrounding area looked up and gazed over at these new arrivals.
