First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 3113 - A Lamp Illuminates the Endless Darkness

The Book of Destiny had been blocked, preventing it from fusing with Su Yi’s rapidly transforming cultivation base.

This development surprised Su Yi on multiple levels. For one thing, he hadn’t anticipated that the Book of Destiny would react this way.

For another, the Sword of the Nine Hells’ intervention came out of nowhere. It blocked the Book of Destiny before Su Yi could even react!

Nothing of the sort had happened during any of his previous breakthroughs.

But before Su Yi could give the matter any further thought, the Cauldron of Fate rumbled and rose, followed by the Contented Heart Scepter. Just like the Book of Destiny, they wanted to fuse into Su Yi’s cultivation base.

Even the Medallion of Past Karma seemed ready and raring to go, as if somehow summoned.

The Sword of the Nine Hells was incomparably tyrannical. It blocked and suppressed these treasures, one by one. None could draw near!

Su Yi watched all of this play out. He was astonished, but he also vaguely understood.

This breakthrough had likely broken through one of the ties of destiny. He’d used his Dao to transcend Heavenly Fate, making his fate heavenly fate. That was what had made these treasures so eager to become a part of him!

The Book of Destiny, Cauldron of Fate, and other treasures had varying origins, but all were born of or connected to the River of Destiny.

And when he’d broken through, he broke through the confines of heavenly fate, becoming heavenly fate in his own right!

That, perhaps, was why these treasures were so eager to throw themselves into his arms.

However, it was obvious that the Sword of the Nine Hells didn’t agree. It wouldn’t tolerate other treasures becoming part of Su Yi’s Grand Dao!

But before long, Su Yi lost all interest in contemplating that. His breakthrough in the face of death had resulted in innumerable, unbelievable changes. He needed to calm his heart and take them in.

Throughout this process, the Threelives Buddha and Hong Ling continued their attacks, never once stopping.

However, their expressions darkened over time, and they increasingly felt that the trend was no longer in their favor.

“Fellow Daoist, what do we do?” transmitted Hong Ling. Watching helplessly as Su Yi faced death, overcame it, and transformed had filled her with frustration. She was unwilling to accept this.

The Threelives Buddha fell silent. Sometimes, there was nothing you could do!

Especially at times like this. For all his plots, schemes, and methods, he felt completely helpless in the face of Su Yi’s transformation.

When she saw that the Threelives Buddha had no answers either, Hong Ling couldn’t help but say, “Don’t you have powers from the Far Shore? Why not...”

Before she could finish, the Threelives Buddha’s eyes flashed with cold light. “Don’t even think about it! Even if I had such a hidden card, there’s no way I’d use it!”

Hong Ling’s brow furrowed, but just as she was about to say something, a strange scene unfolded.

The distant Daoless Domain was actually drawing closer to them!

Originally, there’d been a clear line demarcating the Daoless Domain and the rest of the Realm of Endless Tribulations, where they now stood.

The Grand Dao did not exist in the Daoless Domain, and all abilities withered. It was a dark, cold place devoid of life.

But now, the darkness enshrouding the Daoless Domain was spreading. Wherever it went, the Laws of Calamity overhead withered and silently faded away.

The air, the ground, every last speck of dust... all of it was devoured.

The Daoless Domain was like a vast ocean. A wave of darkness was relentlessly encroaching.

This strange scene made Hong Ling and the Threelives Buddha’s eyelids twitch. They could no longer concern themselves with attacking Su Yi, as they had to flee immediately.

What was going on? Had Su Yi’s breakthrough somehow provoked the Daoless Domain?

Meanwhile, beneath the dome of heaven, Su Yi stood there, unmoving. A rain of light flowed over his body, making him glow like a blazing sun.

When the darkness of the Daoless Domain encroached, it was like a wave hitting a coral reef. It couldn’t shake Su Yi in the slightest. On the contrary, much of the wave of darkness dispersed!

Off in the distance, the Threelives Buddha’s eyes widened, and Hong Ling was left tongue-tied.

The power of the Daoless Domain could easily strip even Heavenly Sovereigns of their cultivation bases, reducing them to ordinary mortals forevermore.

Yet now, it couldn’t even shake Su Yi!

They watched as the darkness enveloped the area around Su Yi, leaving only his immediate surroundings untouched. He was like the only light amidst the darkness, utterly eye-catching and resplendent.

“A single lamp illuminates the endless darkness!” said the Threelives Buddha, his gaze conflicted. He sighed with a complicated mix of confusion, astonishment, bewilderment, and unwillingness.

What was the Daoless Domain?

It was a place where the Grand Dao was not permitted to exist and all powers withered! It could sever the cultivation bases of even Heavenly Sovereigns.

Yet now, someone had suddenly lit a lamp, standing alone and glowing amidst the endless darkness. In doing so, he’d broken an ironclad rule, crossing a previously insurmountable chasm!

“Is there... Is there really no way of stopping him?” asked Hong Ling, inwardly frantic.

The Threelives Buddha suddenly threw back his head and roared, “Monarch of Endless Tribulations, I dare say with certainty that if you let Su Yi finish his breakthrough, the Realm of Endless Tribulations will change ownership forevermore. You’ll... lose any authority you once had here!”

Hong Ling was stunned.

A moment later, the Monarch of Endless Tribulations' voice rang out. “Then what do you think we should do, Fellow Daoist?”

His voice was calm, with no obvious emotional fluctuations.

“This is your territory. Why are you asking me?” The Threelives Buddha frowned. “Very well. If you aren’t willing to intervene, Fellow Daoist Hong Ling and I naturally won’t meddle in your busin—”

But before he could finish his sentence, the Monarch of Endless Tribulations spoke once more. “If you dare attempt to leave, I guarantee you’ll never make it out!”

Hong Ling’s heart sank, but the Threelives Buddha just said calmly, “If we fight, Su Yi will be the only one who wins in the end!”

The Monarch of Endless Tribulations silently appeared in the distance, his hands behind his back as he gazed at the brilliant figure standing in the tide of darkness. “Then what do you think we should do?”

The Threelives Buddha said, “We join forces and risk it all! We might well seize an opportunity to turn the tide in our favor!”

“What specifically do you propose?” asked the Monarch of Endless Tribulations.

“Give me my master’s Buddhist Heart and powers of the Grand Dao,” said the Threelives Buddha.

The Monarch of Endless Tribulations’ eyes narrowed. “Seizing the opportunity to loot?”

“Give it to me or don’t,” said the Threelives Buddha. “It’s entirely your choice.”

The Monarch of Endless Tribulation’s expression shifted erratically.

Hong Ling said irritably, “Why are you so reluctant to part with a few external objects even at a time like this? Don’t tell me you want Su Yi to succeed in his breakthrough and become the new ruler of the Realm of Endless Tribulations?”

The Monarch of Endless Tribulations snorted coldly, then looked at the Threelives Buddha. “Do you really have means of turning this around?”

The Threelives Buddha said, “How will I know unless I try?”

The Monarch of Endless Tribulations waved his sleeve, and two bundles of light flew forth, then landed in front of the Threelives Buddha. “If you dare lie to me, I guarantee you’ll never leave this place alive!”

The Threelives Buddha clasped his palms and chanted. The two bundles of light representing the Buddha of Non-Existence’s Buddhist Heart and powers of the Grand Dao took to the air, then fused into his body.

A moment later, his robes billowed around him, and his aura underwent a shocking transformation. It was as if he’d broken through some sort of internal fetter. His presence rose and expanded, growing to unbelievable heights.

Hong Ling’s heart shook. Don’t tell me the Threelives Buddha just broke through the fetters of destiny and stepped onto the Path to Ancestry?

When the Monarch of Endless Tribulations saw this, he suddenly regretted his decision. Was giving the Threelives Buddha his master’s remnants a huge mistake?

But... it was too late to change his mind.

The Monarch of Endless Tribulations forcefully suppressed his unease, then said gravely, “How this ends is now in your hands, Fellow Daoist!”

The Threelives Buddha silently turned to face him. “Su Yi was right. You really are an arrow at the end of its flight. Otherwise, how could you willingly give me my master’s heart and powers of the Grand Dao?”

The Monarch of Endless Tribulations’ expression darkened. “You tricked me?”

The Threelives Buddha shook his head. “I just want to leave, and I’m curious to see whether or not you’ll agree.”

Hong Ling’s eyes widened. What was with all that talk of risking it all? So, you never meant a word of it!

The Monarch of Endless Tribulations had an unsightly look on his face. “Impressive, bald donkey. Compared to your master, you’re... capricious, untrustworthy scum!”

The Threelives Buddha said calmly, “My master was deceived and killed by you precisely because he was so compassionate.”

The Monarch of Endless Tribulations turned to leave, only for the Threelives Buddha to attack from afar. Heaven and earth shook violently as a massive hand so enormous as to blot out the sun enveloped the entire area, sealing off all possible escape routes.

As that enormous hand descended, churning Buddhist flames poured out of its palm, gushing forth like lava.

Its terrifying power was beyond the limits of a Heavenly Monarch. It had reached an all-new level.

Hong Ling was just a spectator, but her hair stood on end, and she could barely breathe. It was obvious how terrifyingly powerful this attack directed at the Monarch of Endless Tribulations was.

The Monarch of Endless Tribulations' face was ashen, and his eyes flashed with horrifying light as he let out a sudden roar.

The Laws of Calamity gathered into a bundle of light as if pulled by a giant, invisible hand. Then, they came crashing down from the firmament.

Here, the Monarch of Endless Tribulations ruled. He could direct the Laws of Calamity here freely.

When he exerted himself, heaven and earth themselves seemed to become a portion of his power!

Beneath this onslaught, the Threelives Buddha’s massive palm cracked. It had taken enormous damage.

But before the Monarch of Endless Tribulations could take advantage of this, a black alms bowl descended, outlining an eight-tiered pagoda and the illusory nature of life and death.

It was as if a boundless world had enveloped the Monarch of Endless Tribulations. His expression shifted, and he fought back with all his might.

But to his surprise, he discovered that his connection to the Realm of Endless Tribulations seemed to have been severed. He could no longer direct the tribulations of heaven!

“This is the Eight-Tiered Pagoda Alms Bowl. I prepared it to contend with the tribulations found here. Monarch of Endless Tribulations, no matter how strong you are, without your Laws of Calamity, you’re no more than a defanged tiger,” said the Threelives Buddha, all the while pouring his strength into the black alms bowl. He seemed intent on refining the Monarch of Endless Tribulations in one fell swoop.

Hong Ling watched, unable to process it all. She was astonished, but at the same time, she found it difficult to understand. Why is the Threelives Buddha doing this?

Is killing the Monarch of Endless Tribulations really more important than ending Su Yi?

No! Right from the start, the Threelives Buddha never saw the Monarch of Endless Tribulations as a threat. I suspect he’s doing this for precisely the reasons he gave earlier; he just wants to leave immediately!

Naturally, that would imply that he’s certain we have no further hope of killing Su Yi!

As Hong Ling’s thoughts raced, the Threelives Buddha’s voice resounded directly in her ears.

“Fellow Daoist, we cannot hesitate any further. Quick, attack the Monarch of Endless Tribulations! Otherwise, we can forget about making it out alive this time!”
