First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3110 - The Harbingers’ Demise
Beneath the dome of heaven, boundless Laws of Calamity surged and churned. They were formed entirely out of the source energies of the Realm of Endless Tribulations.
Su Yi still carried the Umbrella of Tribulations. He stood amidst the churning, calamitous power. It pelted him like rain, but the Umbrella of Tribulations blocked it all.
He isn’t dead? Hong Ling’s eyes widened in disbelief. She and the Threelives Buddha had prepared that attack for a long time. It was practically invincible. It would have badly injured even a Heavenly Sovereign—and that’s assuming it didn’t kill them outright.
There was no way to dodge!
Except... Su Yi had done just that. He’d used some incomprehensible method to appear beneath the distant dome of heaven.
“He’s injured,” whispered the Threelives Buddha. He could tell that Su Yi was wounded, and badly at that.
Su Yi’s body was broken and bleeding in numerous places. Even his qi circulation showed signs of disorder.
They’d failed to take Su Yi down in a single blow, but this result was still enough to satisfy the Threelives Buddha.
He understood Su Yi better than anyone else present. He knew how many cards Su Yi had up his sleeve, and how difficult he was to kill.
That this attack had dealt such damage was already a bit outside of the Threelives Buddha’s expectations.
“Dare you fight me here, Threelives Buddha?” Su Yi’s voice emanated from the dome of heaven. Despite his wounds, his gaze was utterly calm.
The Threelives Buddha laughed. “You want to use the Laws of Calamity to destroy me? You’re dreaming.”
Hong Ling couldn’t help but transmit, “Fellow Daoist, if we join forces and use your secret treasures, there’s no reason we can’t fight him up there.”
The Threelives Buddha shook his head slightly, his gaze inscrutable. “Ah, but there are others better suited to the task.”
Hong Ling blinked, stunned.
It was then that a group shot over from afar, soaring beneath the dome of heaven. These were none other than the Harbingers of Tribulations led by Bai Heng.
In the Realm of Endless Tribulations, the Harbingers wielded the power of the tribulations of destiny. All of them had gleaned enlightenment into various Laws of Calamity, so they naturally had nothing to fear here.
“As the saying goes, ‘Heaven’s doors were open to you, yet you insisted on prying open the gates of hell,’” one of the Harbingers of Tribulations said with a cold laugh.
The way Su Yi had avoided the Threelives Buddha and Hong Ling’s attack stunned them, but when they saw Su Yi appear beneath the dome of heaven, they barely resisted the urge to laugh.
“Don’t get complacent. We’ll attack together, but first, let’s seal the entire area to make absolutely sure we take him down!” Bai Heng transmitted gravely. “We absolutely cannot give the Threelives Buddha and that woman a chance to interfere!”
The others nodded.
As they conversed, they flew higher and higher, into the churning calamitous power.
Su Yi walked, umbrella in hand, his gaze completely calm. “This had nothing to do with you, yet here you are, throwing your lives away. How stupid is that?”
He made no attempt to dodge. Instead, he just watched as nine Harbingers of Tribulations shifted positions and surrounded him on all sides.
As violent as the calamitous powers here were, they couldn’t even scratch these Harbingers of Tribulations!
“‘Throwing our lives away,’ huh?” Bai Heng couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re the first in the history of the Realm of Endless Tribulations to boast like that while standing amidst the Laws of Calamity!”
The other Harbingers of Tribulations couldn’t help but laugh.
Hong Ling’s brow furrowed. She transmitted, “Fellow Daoist Threelives, Su Yi’s actions really do seem foolish. What on earth is he playing at?”
The Threelives Buddha said calmly, “Don’t ever use the word ‘stupid’ to describe Su Yi. To do so insults me, too.”
If Su Yi were stupid, their battle would never have gone on all these years. He’d have taken Su Yi down a long, long time ago.
Accusing Su Yi of stupidity was tantamount to calling him, the Threelives Buddha, inept.
Hong Ling froze, stunned, then realized what he meant. She couldn’t help but apologize. “I didn’t mean it that way.”
“Just watch the battle,” said the Threelives Buddha.
As they conversed, Bai Heng and the other Harbingers of Tribulations attacked.
“Condense!” Bai Heng stretched out his hand, and the Laws of Calamity condensed into a spear, which landed in his grip.
Then, he pointed it at Su Yi from afar. “Attack together and kill him!”
Boom!
The other eight Harbingers of Tribulations readied their divine abilities, condensing weapons out of the Laws of Calamity. All of them attacked Su Yi at once, and all of them emanated endlessly terrifying calamitous power. They were like incarnations of divine tribulations!
Their combined power left even Hong Ling unwittingly stunned.
To the best of her knowledge, here in the Realm of Endless Tribulations, the Harbingers’ power over the Laws of Calamity meant that each was as powerful as a Heavenly Sovereign.
Now, it seemed their reputation was well earned. Had she been surrounded like this, she wouldn’t have dared clash with the Harbingers head-on. She’d have needed to flee immediately and avoid their joint onslaught.
But Su Yi didn’t retreat. In the face of their joint attacks, he gripped the Umbrella of Tribulations in one hand, then drew the other through the air.
Boom!
The Harbinger leading the onslaught raised a whip condensed out of calamitous power, then cracked it at Su Yi.
But when Su Yi drew his hand through the air, the whip silently vanished as if devoured.
A moment later, Su Yi took a step forward, thrusting his umbrella. Strange, inscrutable power coursed over its surface, gathering around the umbrella’s tip. It was like a sharp, indestructible ice pick.
Bang!
As terrifying as the Harbinger’s powers were, in the face of this attack, they offered no more resistance than paper. They split into pieces on impact, scattering into a rain of light.
The Umbrella of Tribulations’ black surface greedily devoured the remnants even as its tip continued, piercing the man’s body.
Splurt!
The Harbinger of Tribulations’ face filled with astonishment. To his horror, he realized that the Umbrella of Tribulations was unbelievably terrifying. In the face of this treasure, his power over the tribulations of destiny was helpless, like a fish on the chopping block just waiting to be slaughtered.
No, not slaughtered, but rather, devoured!
When the sharp tip of the umbrella pierced the Harbinger of Tribulations’ body, he could clearly sense it devouring his cultivation base.
“No!” He shrieked, then tried desperately to struggle.
But it was to no avail. A moment later, his powers of the Grand Dao were devoured, leaving his body as shriveled as rotten wood. Moments later, it disintegrated into ash.
All of this happened in mere moments.
Everyone just saw Su Yi use his umbrella as a sword to run his opponent through with ease. The pitch-black surface of the umbrella seized and devoured the man’s life force and powers of the Grand Dao with ease.
In the blink of an eye, a Harbinger of Tribulations comparable to a Heavenly Sovereign was dead.
When the other Harbingers of Tribulations saw this strange, terrifying scene, they were overcome with horror and disbelief.
But before they could wrap their heads around the situation, Su Yi launched a massacre.
Boom!
The surface of the Umbrella of Tribulations was like a black hole, while the tip was like a sharp sword jutting from the depths.
When Su Yi attacked, he killed in an instant.
Just like before, the person hit had their cultivation base devoured. In the end, their body crumbled into dust and dissipated.
All of this provoked the other Harbingers of Tribulations. All of them looked stunned, as if they found this hard to accept or believe.
Here beneath the firmament, they were like agents of heaven’s will. They controlled Laws of Calamity, making them all but invincible. Here, they dared look down on even Heavenly Sovereigns.
Who could have imagined that Su Yi would kill two of them in rapid succession?
Kaboom!
They dared not give the matter any further thought. The entire dome of heaven shook as the Harbingers of Tribulations attacked like their lives were on the line.
Strangely, no matter what they tried, all of their attacks vanished, like a clay ox melting into the ocean. Su Yi’s Umbrella of Tribulations silently absorbed them all.
They couldn’t budge Su Yi in the slightest.
On the contrary, as the Umbrella of Tribulations devoured their attacks, its dark surface grew even darker, like an undulating abyss, horrifying and strange.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
In practically a single breath, Su Yi slew three enemies in a row with unstoppable force, killing each in a single blow.
“This...” Hong Ling’s beautiful eyes widened in disbelief. “Fellow Daoist, why is the Umbrella of Tribulations so terrifying?”
The Threelives Buddha’s eyes flashed. “The Umbrella of Tribulations can block and neutralize all tribulations, but it shouldn’t be anywhere near this powerful. I suspect... that there’s something off about the power Su Yi’s using.
“That power is a natural counter to the Harbingers of Tribulations’ tribulations of destiny. That’s how he’s killing them as easily as if they were chickens!
“Don’t forget that we injured Su Yi earlier. If there weren’t something strange about the power he’s using, the Harbingers of Tribulations would have killed him by now!”
Hong Ling’s brow furrowed, but just as she was about to respond...
“Retreat!” Bai Heng shouted from beneath the dome of heaven. He and his remaining three companions turned and fled, not daring to linger.
But Su Yi wouldn’t let them escape so easily. He flashed through the air and killed three of them within moments.
Only the fastest of them, Bai Heng, managed to escape with his life.
Even though he made it out, he was scared out of his wits, like a dog without a master. He fled straight to the Mountain of Tribulations.
Su Yi didn’t give chase. The Threelives Buddha and Hong Ling were still eyeing him hungrily, so he had to suppress the impulse to clean up his last remaining opponent.
Just like that, the battle came to a close. Within just a few snaps of the fingers, eight Harbingers of Tribulations died explosively, their cultivation bases stripped and devoured.
Calamitous power still churned beneath the dome of heaven, while the entire stretch of heaven and earth had returned to stillness.
Su Yi reopened the Umbrella of Tribulations, then broke into hacking coughs. Blood dripped from the corners of his mouth.
Killing the Harbingers of Tribulations really didn’t take much out of him, but there was no denying that Hong Ling and the Threelives Buddha’s earlier attacks had hurt him badly. Just a little more, and there’d have been no turning this around!
“If I’m not mistaken, you’re using the power of the Book of Destiny, not the power of the Umbrella of Tribulations. Am I right?” asked the Threelives Buddha.
Su Yi ignored him. Meanwhile, something else entirely occurred to him. The Monarch of Tribulations’ true body seriously didn’t tell the Harbingers of Tribulation that I’ve long since gained control of the Book of Destiny? That doesn’t make sense. Unless... his wounds are so serious that he couldn’t even take the time to warn them to be on guard against me?
When they first met in the Cave of Obsession, Su Yi was only in the Divine Wandering Realm, but he could already control the Book of Destiny enough to trap a Harbinger of Tribulations like River Ancestor Lu Shu in the book’s first page.
Naturally, it was even easier now.
It was because of this experience that Su Yi had so thoroughly disregarded the Harbingers of Tribulations on the mountaintop.
It was all because the Book of Destiny could strip and devour the Harbingers’ power over tribulations of destiny!
“Just as I thought,” the Threelives Buddha said softly, his gaze heated. “I should have realized it long ago. The Book of Destiny is from the Abyss of Endless Tribulations. Of course it’s connected to this place’s source energy!”
He paused, then sighed. “Previously, I was confused as to why Master and the Monarch of Endless Tribulations were so fixated on acquiring the Book of Destiny. Now, I’m starting to understand!”
