First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 3083 - The Little Boss, Clad in Robes Whiter Than Snow

Old Lord Gouchen’s attitude startled all of the Secluded Ones. None of them had anticipated that he’d help this strange female Dao Ancestor, much less that he’d command Song Lan to kill one of his own.

Their thoughts raced. Don’t tell me that woman has extraordinary secret origins? If not, why would Old Lord Gouchen go this far?

Meanwhile, Song Lan’s face was ashen. “Senior, what is the meaning of this? You’re telling me to kill one of our disciples? There’s absolutely no way!”

He spoke with staunch conviction.

Old Lord Gouchen frowned. “Are you really going to create a rift between Three Purities Temple and the Mountain of the Secluded Ones over a confirmed rule-breaker?”

Song Lan said expressionlessly, “Senior, you’re just one person. Can you really represent the entire Mountain of the Secluded Ones?”

The atmosphere was as hostile and oppressive as could be. It would have been obvious to anyone that Song Lan was going all out, even if it meant offending Old Lord Gouchen!

Old Lord Gouchen didn’t get angry. Instead, he said calmly, “You chose this for yourself. Whatever happens next, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

His calm words made the other Secluded Ones’ hearts shake. They picked up a hint of an altogether different flavor.

Song Lan’s brow furrowed. "Senior, I’m not afraid to die, and Three Purities Temple is the greatest Daoist faction beneath the heavens for a reason. Mere threats aren’t enough to shake us!”

Old Lord Gouchen said no more.

Instead, a burst of soft laughter rang out.

“Gouchen, I gave you face, but your well-intentioned advice has obviously fallen on deaf ears. You aren’t to blame for what happens next.”

As this voice resounded throughout heaven and earth, lava churned violently within a hidden realm deep in the River of Destiny.

This was the Big Boss’s Cavern of Swords.

Previously, an expert of Sword Sovereign City, an old turtle called Gui Nian, had watched over this place. However, after the curtain fell on the Struggle for Heavenly Fate, Gui Nian left for the Source of the River of Destiny with the other survivors of Sword Sovereign City.

Now, a tall man in robes whiter than snow emerged from the lake of lava hidden deep in the Cavern of Swords. He was broad-shouldered and narrow-waisted, with skin as smooth as jade and a habitual smile on his lips. He seemed extraordinarily warm and approachable.

“How many years has it been since I last took a step outside? But then... This isn’t breaking the rules, as that’s my boss!” The man in white laughed. “Miss Hongpao, I’ll be right back. You can just focus on your cultivation.”

The man in white vanished before his voice had even finished echoing through the air. A moment later, he appeared over the Sea of Fate, right in front of Old Lord Gouchen, arriving silently, with no presence or momentum to speak of. Suddenly, he was just there.

But none of the Secluded Ones dared to underestimate him. Moreover, they knew that he was the one who’d spoken to Old Lord Gouchen earlier!

Even among the Secluded Ones, few would dare to address Old Lord Gouchen so directly. To do so was considered enormously disrespectful.

When Su Yi saw the man in white, his eyebrows rose as the first Divine Chain of the Sword of the Nine Hells had reacted to his presence. Nothing of the sort had ever happened before. The first Divine Chain represented his first incarnation’s Dao Imprint, but in all his years of cultivation, it had never stirred like this before.

Su Yi couldn’t help but be intrigued. Who is this?

Old Lord Gouchen sighed, then clasped his fist at the man in white. “I have nothing left to say.”

With that, he shockingly stepped aside.

Song Lan of Three Purities Temple furrowed his brow. Something seemed to occur to him, but it seemed he dared not quite believe it. His expression was full of bewilderment.

The man in white ignored him, took a step forward, and arrived before Su Yi. He patted him on the shoulder. “You’re still some ways away from earning my recognition, but you’re getting there. Not bad at all.”

His smile was warm and amiable, and his voice was mellow. Everything about him was as soothing as a spring breeze.

Before Su Yi could respond, he turned to face Ruo Su. “Senior, thank you for coming to back up my boss’s reincarnation.”

Ruo Su inclined her head. “I was simply doing as I ought to.”

The man in white smiled. “This enmity started with our Sword Sovereign City, and we can’t let it implicate you. I’ll take over from here!”

Ruo Su mulled that over. “You won’t need help?”

The man in white smiled and shook his head. “No, no need for that.”

Only then did he spare Song Lan a glance.

Song Lan’s heart instantly sank, and his whole body silently tensed. He started circulating his cultivation base practically on instinct.

The other Secluded Ones were startled. The man in white hasn’t revealed any sign of his presence, but he’s clearly putting enormous pressure on Song Lan!

The man in white said warmly, “Pass on a message to Lonely Heights. Tell him to come fight me. As for you... you aren’t even worth drawing my sword for.”

Silence descended over the area. The Secluded Ones were stunned.

Lonely Heights was one of the most dazzling Dao Ancestors of Three Purities Temple, the greatest expert to appear in their ranks aside from the three founders themselves!

Who could have imagined that this seemingly unassuming man in white would challenge Lonely Heights by name as soon as he arrived? And who could have imagined that he’d dismiss a grandmaster-level figure like Song Lan of the Supreme Purity lineage like this?

Just who was this guy? Why didn’t they know there was someone like him in Sword Sovereign City?

“You...” Song Lan opened his mouth to speak, only for a streak of sword qi to explode into being and fly straight for his forehead.

The sword qi was as thin as a chopstick, snow-white and translucent. It stopped just an inch from Song Lan’s head.

It hadn’t pierced him, but even so, its presence was so sharp that Song Lan felt a piercing pain, and a startling bead of blood formed on his skin.

“See that? You live and die at my whim. If Lonely Heights doesn’t show up, you’ll die,” the man in white said warmly.

But everyone present looked stricken.

In the blink of an eye, he’d positioned his sword right between Dao Ancestor Song Lan’s eyes. Who could have failed to realize the implications?

Had the man in white wanted Song Lan dead, he’d have pierced his head already!

Cold sweat formed on Song Lan’s forehead, and he felt chills in his hands and feet. He dared not move recklessly for fear that he’d be run through. Without any further hesitation, he took out a talisman and sent a message.

The crowd watched, their expressions conflicted.

Earlier, Grandmaster Song Lan had been so fearless precisely because he had supreme experts like Lonely Heights behind him. Their prestige was such that Song Lan hadn’t backed down even in the face of Old Lord Gouchen.

But now, Song Lan was wimping out!

The way they looked at the man in white silently shifted. He’d appeared out of nowhere, but his presence was enough to convince Old Lord Gouchen to remain a bystander. Meanwhile, he’d overpowered and intimidated Song Lan in a single blow.

Just who was this guy?

Su Yi watched from a distance. He could just about figure it out.

Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi and the two River Ancestors watched in silence. Only now did they realize that, aside from Su Yi, they had the lowest cultivation bases of anyone present!

Everyone else was a terrifying expert from the Far Shore of Destiny!

This reality came as an enormous shock to all three of them, but Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi accepted it with relative calm. She’d once strived for the Far Shore, and she’d seen Old Lord Gouchen’s abilities before, so she didn’t completely lose her cool.

Shortly after, Lonely Heights’ voice emanated from Song Lan’s talisman. “Dare you visit the Retracing Sky Zone? I’ll give you a chance to ‘demand an explanation’ there!”

His voice resounded throughout the surrounding area.

This was indeed Lonely Heights. He was direct and to the point, as sharp as the edge of a sword.

“Very well. Wait for me,” the man in white said with a laugh.

A moment later, the sword qi pressed against Song Lan’s forehead moved, piercing his skull and coming out the other end. It left a bloody hole in its wake.

Splurt!

Blood spurted from the wound.

Song Lan’s eyes widened, disbelief written all over his face. It seemed he dared not believe that the man in white had really done this!

A moment later, his body silently toppled backward, fell from the sky, and dissipated into ash before even hitting the water.

Everyone present was stunned. Even the Secluded Ones froze in place.

Song Lan was the fourth-generation grandmaster of the Supreme Purity lineage, an expert who’d long since joined the Mountain of the Secluded Ones, yet he’d been killed, just like that?

Had this happened in the All-Profound Dominion, it would have shaken the entire world!

Even Ruo Su was surprised. She’d thought she’d been domineering, but now, it seemed she couldn’t compete with the man in white in this regard.

“It’s a pity that this was just his clone. Destroying it will at most injure him,” the man in white said with a sigh.

Old Lord Gouchen sighed. “He’ll still remember this punishment for the rest of his life.”

The destruction of a Secluded One’s clone would have a significant impact on his true body. Not just anyone could bear the consequences of that.

The man in white shook his head. “The charlatans of Three Purities Temple have short memories for pain.”

With that, he took a step forward and arrived beside Zhi Yue. He smiled warmly. “I know the people of Three Purities Temple are stubborn, and that there’s no way you’ll choose to lower your head. Is there anything you’d like to say before you die?”

Zhi Yue said woodenly, his gaze full of bone-deep hatred, “Sword Sovereign City hasn’t existed in a long time, and its survivors... aren’t long for this world!”

The man in white looked disappointed. “I have little patience for such unseemly curses.”

Zhi Yue gnashed his teeth. “Dare you tell us your name?”

The man in white laughed. “Why shouldn’t I? Once, long ago, I followed my boss into battle across the world, and I taught the cultivators of Sword Sovereign City in his place.”

Zhi Yue’s mind buzzed, and his eyes widened. He finally understood who he was dealing with.

Su Yi nodded inwardly. It really is him. It’s no wonder the first Divine Chain reacted to him.

Meanwhile, the other Secluded Ones’ hearts shook. All of them finally realized who this was.

The man in white was a legendary sword spirit renowned throughout the All-Profound Dominion, the spirit of his personal weapon, Small Serenities!

Small Serenities was the weapon that had accompanied the Big Boss the longest. They said that its sword spirit’s attainments in the Dao of the Sword were second only to the Big Boss himself.

In Sword Sovereign City, they called the spirit “the Little Boss.”

He was the chief steward of Sword Sovereign City, the man who’d really run the place!
