First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2920 - Going Up a Realm

Chapter 2920 - Going Up a Realm

Boom!

The man rode in on the waves of bone, then leaped and descended from on high like a meteor, shaking the ground on impact. The earth split, spiderweb-like cracks spreading in all directions.

Terrifying murderous intent swept outward.

The new arrival was tall, stalwart, and covered in armor. His murderous intent was so thick, it seemed tangible. It was like a solid, blood-red power of the Laws.

Most unbelievable of all, not a single trace of his vital energy leaked out of him, to the point that there was no guessing his true cultivation base.

As soon as he arrived, he faced Su Yi and clasped his fist in greeting. “Disciple Xuan Kong of Fangchun Mountain greets you, Senior!”

Ling Xuanzi immediately chastised him. “Senior? What senior? He’s that swordsman’s reincarnation, that’s all. Just call him ‘Fellow Daoist.’”

Xuan Kong remained calm and entirely unmoved. “Both past and present incarnations are ultimately the same person. I naturally must treat him with respect.”

Ling Xuanzi looked exasperated, but he didn’t push the issue. He just said to Su Yi, “This is my forty-ninth junior apprentice brother, Xuan Kong. He created his own unique legacy, the Extreme Absolute, and he’s both stubborn and brutal.”

Su Yi subtly inclined his head, then clasped his fist at Xuan Kong. “My name is Su Yi, and I’m a sword cultivator. Please guide me!”

Xuan Kong just looked at Su Yi, his qi coursing through him. His formerly hidden aura revealed itself. Shockingly, he now displayed strength comparable to a peak Divine Wandering Realm Eternal!

Only then did he say, “I wouldn’t call this ‘guiding’ you. This is a clash within the same realm of cultivation. Defeat me, and I’ll accept Master’s arrangements.”

Su Yi pondered briefly. “You’re just an avatar of will, and now, you’ve suppressed your cultivation down to my level. If we fight, you’re sure to lose. In the name of fairness, you’re more than welcome to bump your cultivation up a realm when we fight.”

Ling Xuanzi was stunned. It seems he’s quite confident in his strength!

Xuan Kong wasn’t the least bit offended. He pondered briefly, then said, “Let’s fight first, then see!”

Su Yi nodded, then attacked without another word.

He took a step forward, swinging his palm like a sword in a light, airy gesture.

Xuan Kong’s presence was heavy, and his cultivation base rumbled and boomed. It seemed flawless and perfect in its completeness, with endless, self-perpetuating charm.

He was just about to attack when his gaze suddenly focused. Su Yi’s attack seemed simple, but it was full of utterly sharp, utterly tyrannical sword intent, and strong to the point of downright unreasonableness.

Xuan Kong had an unprecedented premonition. If I clash with him with Divine Wandering Realm cultivation, this avatar won’t be able to take it, not even if I push myself to my limit!

It was then that Xuan Kong understood. Su Yi hadn’t been boasting earlier. He could easily cross cultivation levels to kill foes of higher realms.

Xuan Kong didn’t hesitate. His strength soared as he swung his fist and attacked.

Boom!

The entire ancient battlefield shook violently. The sky collapsed on all sides, and the earth caved in, creating a massive chasm.

But it was strange. As supremely powerful and unyielding as Xuan Kong’s fist force was, none of it leaked. It was unbelievably concentrated.

When it clashed with Su Yi’s slash, Su Yi staggered several steps back.

Xuan Kong’s avatar staggered on his feet, too. His gaze was instantly solemn. “I’ve only seen a few others display such power in the Divine Wandering Realm. It’s truly terrifying!”

Ling Xuanzi nodded slightly. Given Forty-Ninth Junior Apprentice Brother’s personality, those words amount to heartfelt acknowledgment and recognition.

But Su Yi just smiled. “If you aren’t opposed, you can raise your cultivation by another realm.”

“Truly?” Xuan Kong blinked.

Ling Xuanzi laughed. “Junior Apprentice Brother, do as he says. After all, he has three chances to beat you. Just defeat him and show him how foolish that request really is!”

This Xuan Kong was, after all, just an avatar, not the real deal. Although he’d once been invincible within his level, the way Ling Xuanzi saw it, he would have a hard time defeating Su Yi using Silent Realm cultivation.

But it would be an entirely different story if he fought as an Immeasurable Realm Eternal!

Xuan Kong pondered briefly, then nodded. “Very well!”

Boom!

His aura exploded as his cultivation rose by a whole realm. Even his power of the Laws underwent an obvious and dramatic shift.

Su Yi sensed intense pressure bearing down on him. Even his skin prickled!

Xuan Kong instantly charged, like a windstorm in motion, cleaving through the sky. When his fist descended, the entire ancient battlefield threatened to shatter.

Su Yi’s robes billowed around him as he charged into the fray, fingers pressed into a makeshift sword.

Bang!

Heaven and earth collapsed. Firelight swept forth, and soon, the two were locked in fierce combat.

Ling Xuanzi watched the battle from afar, his gaze never leaving Su Yi.

He’d never looked down on Su Yi. Su Yi was, after all, the reincarnation of the Big Boss of Sword Sovereign City, a legend of the Far Shore of Destiny.

Even Grandmaster Bodhi saw him as a prominent “latecomer” in the pursuit of the Grand Dao.

Their little junior brother admired that sword cultivator from the bottom of his heart, and he often lamented that they never got the chance to meet in person.

Given the circumstances, how could Ling Xuanzi possibly look down on Su Yi?

Still, when he saw Su Yi fight Xuan Kuang across two full realms of cultivation, Ling Xuanzi realized that he’d severely underestimated Su Yi’s strength!

He’d obviously been holding back much of his power during his first strike, too. Thus, even after Xuan Kong started using Immeasurable Realm power, he was at most at a bit of an advantage against Su Yi.

He certainly couldn’t defeat him in a single blow!

This was unbelievable. Cultivators separated by even a single realm of cultivation were as far apart as the earth and the clouds, let alone two realms!

And Ling Xuanzi knew better than just about anyone that his forty-ninth junior apprentice brother was extraordinary. He was once an unparalleled genius of the Grand Dao in his own right, and his foundations in the Grand Dao were incomparably firm.

Especially his self-created legacy, the Extreme Absolute. Even their master had praised it endlessly, and even their little junior brother had studied its secrets assiduously.

It was no exaggeration to say that while Xuan Kong might not have been truly invincible among Immeasurable Realm cultivators, he was the absolute cream of the crop!

Yet now, the Divine Wandering Realm Su Yi was able to fight such a fierce battle with him. This was naturally outside of Ling Xuanzi’s expectations.

Senior Apprentice Sister Ruo Su said that Su Yi is that swordsman’s ninth reincarnation, and that he entered the cycle of rebirth in search of greater heights. Looking at him now, he really is perversely strong. He’s a true anomaly; you can’t judge him with common sense. None of the natural-born talents, qilin sons, proud chosen of heaven, and other describable, definable geniuses of this world can compare, Ling Xuanzi sighed to himself.

As the supremely talented fourth disciple of Fangchun Mountain, a man who swore a grand vow to ensure that “seeing him was like seeing the heavens,” Ling Xuanzi had seen no small number of astonishing talents over the years.

The first type was definable. You could bestow all sorts of dazzling titles, descriptions, and accolades upon them.

The second type was impossible to define. They were anomalies beyond the bounds of common sense. All attempts to define them were doomed to failure; there was no way to describe their foundations, aptitude, or talent.

The first category of genius was rare. If you combed through the annals of history, you’d find plenty of dazzling elites. They were as radiant and numerous as the stars shining overhead.

But the latter category was extremely rare. Entire ages and epochs came and went without any such people appearing!

These people were known as anomalies.

If there were fifty Daos, the heavens provided just forty-nine, but someone, somewhere, always managed to find that last, hidden path. These were the anomalies.

Fangchun Mountain’s disciples were all elites, proud chosen of heaven. All of them were leading figures of their respective Daos.

But only two were truly anomalies.

One was their little junior brother, the lotus their master had awaited for countless years.

The second was their eldest senior brother.

However, even their eldest senior brother was somewhat inferior to their little junior brother.

As for Ling Xuanzi? He knew that he was a supreme talent among the geniuses, but he was self-aware enough to acknowledge the disparity between him and the true “anomalies.”

And in his eyes, Su Yi showed every sign of being another anomaly!

Of course, the disparity between Su Yi and Ling Xuanzi lay in their foundations and talent, not in their current strength.

The blink of an eye later, a dazzling beam of sword light illuminated first the sky, then the ancient battlefield below. All was shrouded in white. The skeletons strewn across the ground exploded into powder, dissipated into nothingness.

Within moments, the sword light faded away.

Xuan Kong’s tall, upright figure stood there, his armor tattered and broken. A deep gash traveled from his shoulder to his stomach.

This was just an avatar, not his true body, so the wound vanished in the blink of an eye. However, it severely weakened him in the process. His whole body seemed to dim.

Su Yi stood in the distance, blue robes fluttering around him. Wispy strands of sword qi hovered around him.

His face was pallid, and blood dripped from the corners of his lips. His robes were tattered, and there was a fist-shaped concavity in his chest; his ribs had caved in. Fist force still emanated from the wound, making his wounds even worse.

When Su Yi stopped to examine his wounds, he couldn’t help but sigh. He really is a disciple of Fangchun Mountain. That strength sure is something!

Ling Xuanzi, meanwhile, narrowed his eyes and mentally replayed Su Yi’s last attack. After a little while, he couldn’t help but rub his nose awkwardly. He didn’t say anything.

“Senior, your attainments in the Dao of the Sword have bested me. I admit defeat.” Xuan Kong clasped his fist. Su Yi’s strike could have cleaved his avatar open, but Su Yi had obviously shown mercy at the last possible moment.

But Xuan Kong remained calm even in defeat, showing no sign of joy or sorrow. Instead, he looked at Su Yi with undisguised respect.

He couldn’t even imagine how a Divine Wandering Realm Eternal could be this strong. He’d never seen anything like it!

“You exaggerate,” said Su Yi. He took a sip of wine. “Had your true body been here, that strike wouldn’t necessarily have been enough.”

Xuan Kong was obviously not much of a talker. He pursed his lips, then gazed at the distant Ling Xuanzi. “Fourth Senior Apprentice Brother, I agree.”

Ling Xuanzi smiled. “Relax. Our other apprentice siblings will avenge you!”

Xuan Kong shook his head but said no more.

Ling Xuanzi, meanwhile, sauntered over to Su Yi. “How about it? Are you going to keep fighting, or do you want to rest up first?”
