Chapter 2919 - Seeing Me Is Like Seeing the Heavens
Chapter 2919 - Seeing Me Is Like Seeing the Heavens
Clouds hung beneath the clear blue skies.
A winding path of mottled blue stones climbed up the slopes of an ancient, primordial mountain.
A gate stood at the end of the path. Every inch of it bore the marks of countless years.
A stone pillar stood on each side of the gate, rising into the heavens. The words “The crescent moon and three stars represent the heart. So too does the Spirit Platform of Fangchun.”
Beyond the gates, everything was shrouded in misty chaos power. Su Yi could only dimly discern the outlines of ancient buildings flickering in and out of view.
When Su Yi stood outside the towering, ancient mountain gate, that excited voice echoed through his ears, but even after looking around, he saw no sign of the speaker.
“Who said that?” asked Su Yi.
The surrounding area was still and silent. There were no longer any sounds.
Su Yi’s brow furrowed slightly. What’s the meaning of this? Someone obviously discovered my arrival, so why aren’t they responding anymore?
After a brief silence, Su Yi started evaluating his surroundings. The stones beneath his feet were green with moss and looked ordinary at a glance, yet they emanated a soothing, primordial aura.
It was like the power of the Grand Dao itself was permeating the air, tranquil and ethereal. Even just standing there, Su Yi felt as if he were bathed in the presence of the Dao. It washed away the troubles of the mundane world, calming his heart and mind.
The stone pillars were even more shocking. Each was ten thousand feet tall and carved from extraordinary materials. An Eternal aura flowed over their surfaces.
Su Yi didn’t even need to think to know they were carved from a rare and precious divine material. Whatever it was, it had been used to carve the pillars propping up a sect’s gates.
The stone path was lined with strangely shaped rocks. It looked as if they’d been carved deliberately. All manner of divine medicines sprouted from the gaps in the rocks, each emanating a different medicinal fragrance. When the wind blew, the smell filled the air.
It all seemed ordinary at a glance, but whenever Su Yi examined something closer, he discovered the extraordinary foundations hidden beneath the unassuming surface.
And he’d yet to even pass through the sect gates!
“The crescent moon and three stars represent the heart. So too does the Spirit Platform of Fangchun.”
When Su Yi examined the words carved on the pillars, he couldn’t help but sink into thought.
The orthodoxy of Fangchun Mountain surely specialized in cultivating the heart.
It was much like the famous verse of the Spirit Mountain Buddhist Court. “The Buddha is on the Spirit Mountain. Do not venture in search of him, for the Spirit Mountain lies within your heart.”
This verse also hid the mysteries of cultivation.
Su Yi examined his surroundings, sinking into silence as he passed through the gates.
The moment he passed through them, the scenery shifted around him, and he found himself standing in a ritual ground built in a stretch of stars. Celestial bodies surrounded it on all sides, and starlight flowed like the tides.
A figure sat cross-legged in the ritual grounds, atop a nine-hundred-foot altar. He was facing away from Su Yi.
He looked ethereal, aloof, and mysterious. His presence seemed to fuse with the ritual grounds and resonate with the boundless starscape. Thus, he looked utterly grand and majestic.
Su Yi had only just steadied himself on his feet when a calm voice rang out.
“No ability in this world can escape my gaze, and all of the myriad Daos of the heavens are within my grasp. Throughout the ages, seeing me has been like seeing the heavens!”
The voice boomed, every word shaking the entire ritual grounds. The sky shook, the stars all quivering.
Su Yi sensed terrifying pressure bearing down on him. Despite himself, his qi circulation slowed to a crawl.
But when Su Yi circulated his heart power, the pressure instantly faded away.
“Oh? Your heart’s quite something,” said the seated figure. He slowly turned to look at Su Yi.
Only then did Su Yi see the man clearly. He was dressed in wide-sleeved black robes, and he looked young, perhaps sixteen or seventeen. His whole body emanated a mysterious, ethereal aura.
It seemed the passage of countless years hadn’t left a single mark on his person.
“Who might you be, sir?” asked Su Yi, clasping his fist.
“I’m Ling Xuanzi, the fourth disciple of Fangchun Mountain.” The young man in black rose, then leaped off the platform and approached Su Yi, a warm smile on his face. “Third Apprentice Sister didn’t tell you? I was originally the most monstrous disciple on all of Fangchun Mountain. I was the most talented, too. None could oppose me!”
Su Yi blinked. This guy sure isn’t modest.
He responded honestly. “She never mentioned you.”
Ling Xuanzi sighed. “You can never rely on a woman. To think she’d neglect to mention something so important!”
He brushed off his clothes and laughed. “Allow me to introduce myself. I was born with innate wisdom and a nine-apertured heart. My sea of consciousness is like a lotus, and I am blessed with extraordinary talent, unmatched throughout the ages. I joined Fangchun Mountain in my youth, and...”
Su Yi listened to him rattle on, his gaze a bit strange. This was his first time hearing someone introduce himself in such detail when meeting someone for the first time.
When Ling Xuanzi started listing his glorious accomplishments in the Grand Dao, Su Yi could no longer hold back. “Enough. I already understand that you’re impressive.”
He wasn’t just saying it, either. Assuming Ling Xuanzi was telling the truth, he really was a monster from the moment of his birth, an expert blessed with unbelievably terrifying talent.
It seemed that Ling Xuanzi had yet to get his fill, but in the end, he held back and changed the subject. “Third Senior Apprentice Sister said that Master commanded that Fangchun Mountain be entrusted to someone. Is that someone you?”
Su Yi inclined his head.
Ling Xuanzi looked him up and down. “Why not introduce yourself?”
“I’m Su Yi, and I’m a sword cultivator,” said Su Yi.
Ling Xuanzi didn’t know what to say. Is that all?
After a moment’s silence, he said, “Fine. We can chat further once you’ve assumed true control over Fangchun Mountain.”
We swung his sleeve, and the scenery shifted around them. A moment later, Su Yi and Ling Xuanzi appeared in an ancient battlefield.
The skies were overcast, and the stench of blood and seething murderous intent permeated the air. Bones and fragmented corpses were strewn all across the ground.
Ling Xuanzi stood with his hands behind his back. “Fangchun Mountain has fifty-five disciples in total. Some died a long time ago, while the remainder followed our master and youngest apprentice brother to the All-Wonder Dominion.
“Of course, that goes for me, too. The one standing before you is just an avatar I left on Fangchun Mountain. Only Senior Apprentice Sister Ruo Su stayed behind due to extraordinary circumstances.”
Ling Xuanzi shook his head. “Never mind all that. Senior Apprentice Sister Ruo Su said that your first incarnation was an extraordinary expert of the Dao of the Sword. No, more than just extraordinary—she said that no one else could compare.
“But that isn’t enough to scare me,” said Ling Xuanzi, his gaze strange. He launched into a tale from his youth. “When I was nineteen years old, I told my master that I’d surpass him one day, and I swore to realize my grand ambition. It was simple: I want all who see me to feel as if they’re gazing upon the heavens themselves!
“We all know that your first incarnation was impressive, but if you want to assume control of Fangchun Mountain’s ancestral grounds, you’ll have to earn us apprentice siblings’ approval first!”
Ling Xuanzi’s eyes flashed like swords, and he grinned provocatively. “If you can’t even get through us, you aren’t fated to control Fangchun Mountain.”
Su Yi just smiled. “Tell me, then. How exactly am I supposed to get through you?”
“You have to fight us, of course,” said Ling Xuanzi. “A clash of the Grand Dao is the best possible way to gauge someone’s cultivation, spirit, methods, and mentality. It’s the most direct way, too!”
Su Yi inclined his head. “Alright.”
Ling Xuanzi couldn’t help but take another glance at Su Yi. He could tell that Su Yi’s cultivation base wasn’t weak by normal standards, but he was still just an Eternal, while almost every living member of Fangchun Mountain had left for the All-Wonder Dominion a long time ago. All of them had long since shattered the fetters of destiny.
Was Su Yi simply ignorant, or did he have reason to be confident? Ling Xuanzi had no way of knowing, but he approved of Su Yi’s spirit.
“When my apprentice siblings and I left, we each left behind an avatar,” said Ling Xuanzi. “Of them, twenty-nine have said they want to spar with you to determine whether or not you’re worthy to control Fangchun Mountain. The rest of us said that they’re willing to accept Master’s orders. They’ve agreed to accept your leadership unconditionally.
“In other words, if you want to assume control over our ancestral grounds, you must first defeat twenty-nine of us.”
Ling Xuanzi’s gaze was rife with meaning. “Of course, we’ll each give you three chances, and we’re happy to restrict our cultivation bases to your level.”
“Oh?” said Su Yi. “We’ll fight at the same level of cultivation?”
Ling Xuanzi smiled faintly. “To tell the truth, many of my sectmates were once supreme experts within their level, invincible in this world. All of them left a powerful impact on the River of Destiny. Only one person ever managed to break all of their records. His avatar remains on Fangchun Mountain, too. He’s our little junior brother!”
A subtle hint of pride appeared on Ling Xuanzi’s face. Their little junior brother was the last disciple of Fangchun Mountain, the one their master had waited countless years for. He was a master of reincarnation, and he fought throughout the heavens, exploring the All-Wonder Dominion.
His cultivation base was so lofty that even their master sighed and acknowledged that his disciple had surpassed him!
Su Yi didn’t know all this, but he was still a bit surprised. “Some of the disciples of Fangchun Mountain agreed to let me assume control over it?”
Ling Xuanzi’s lips twitched. He felt as if he’d been playing music for a cow; Su Yi didn’t appreciate a single thing he said.
He’d assumed that Su Yi would ask about their little junior brother, or when their various sectmates were considered invincible within their level.
But Su Yi didn’t seem the least bit interested. He didn’t even ask any follow-up questions!
He felt like a beauty who’d just cast an amorous glance at a blind man.
“That’s right,” said Ling Xuanzi, losing interest. “They said that Master must have had his reasons, and that it won’t end well for them if they try to interfere.”
Ling Xuanzi said solemnly, “In any event, they aren’t afraid of you. They’re just following Master’s orders.”
Su Yi inclined his head. “I understand. Let’s begin, then.”
He looked at Ling Xuanzi eagerly, but Ling Xuanzi waved. “Defeat my apprentice siblings first. It won’t be too late to play with you then.”
He then used his hands as a horn, pressed them to his lips, and shouted into the ancient battlefield, “Junior Apprentice Brother Xuan Kong, come on out and greet our guest!”
His voice went off like a thunderclap, booming throughout the battlefield. The whole place shook.
The countless skeletons strewn across the ground churned like waves. Soon, a figure appeared, riding in on waves of bone.
