Chapter 2765 - A Sword Sovereign Acknowledges a Master
Chapter 2765 – A Sword Sovereign Acknowledges a Master
The two figures attacking alongside Old Ghost Luo were none other than Madam Rao Yun and Zhu Quan.
Madam Rao Yun raised her fingertip, and a flying sword whooshed forth.
Its thin black blade was swathed in arcs of blue, glinting lightning. As it flew through the air, it tore open ashen gray sword rifts.
The sword’s name was Netherworld Lightning. It burned the sky and flew through the air with shocking speed.
Zhu Quan gripped a bone sword forged from the natal bones of thirty-six Heavenly Fate Realm beasts. Heaven and earth wept when he swung it, creating a vision of a blood-soaked purgatory that blanketed heaven and earth in baleful qi.
Two Heavenly Monarch sword cultivators had attacked Mu Qing at once, using their most ruthless killer moves right off the bat!
Boom!
Mu Qing drew his sword to block their attack, but his two powerful enemies relentlessly restricted his movements. Worse, Mu Qing also had to protect Yu Guangjun and Yang Lingxiao, making it difficult to break through their encirclement.
At the same time, a black flood blanketed the sky and blotted out the sun. It was formed entirely out of a strange, inscrutable, corrosive power.
Those within its bounds felt as if they’d sunk into a swamp, their cultivation bases severely restricted and corroded.
This sudden development instantly made the situation precarious to the extreme.
Pu Xuan dared not hold back. He bellowed, circulated his cultivation base to the limit, gripped Rusted Truth, and swung with all his might.
Sanskrit chanting swept forth like tidewaters, and Buddhist flames shone overhead, like a limitless, blazing sun.
Overflowing sword qi cleaved open a massive rift in the endless black flood, seemingly creating a path to life.
Boom!
Old Ghost Luo descended from the heavens and stomped, shattering Pu Xuan’s sword qi. He then swung his sleeve, and his black earthenware jar whooshed forth and slammed into Pu Xuan.
Clang!
Pu Xuan blocked with his sword, only for the jar to suppress it. The blade of his sword curved on impact.
Bang!
Pu Xuan coughed up blood, his handsome, elegant face pale.
Most troublesome of all, the black earthenware jar continued its descent, like a divine mountain bearing down on him. He couldn’t break through it, and worse, it forced him to retreat continuously. All the while, he sank deeper and deeper into that black, corrosive flood.
Pu Xuan suddenly gazed into the distance.
Old Ghost Luo had already fought his way over to Su Yi. His purple robes billowed around him as he extended a hand the size of a cattail leaf. He was reaching for Su Yi’s throat.
A wave of bloody power surged around his palm, as if it were enveloped in a massive lake. Its “waters” were full of vengeful spirits, all of them roaring in fury. It was a startling, strange vision.
This was the attack of an elite heretical Heavenly Monarch. Old Ghost Luo naturally wasn’t holding back, either.
His power could threaten the lives of even others of the same level!
When Old Ghost Luo saw that he’d soon capture Su Yi alive, the depths of his gaze flashed with smug pride.
He, Zhu Quan, and Madam Rao Yun had long since joined forces. They’d decided to ignore the treasure and focus on capturing Su Yi and Pu Xuan the moment the battle began.
When you fought bandits, you had to take the leader out first.
Su Yi and Pu Xuan were the ones who’d managed to acquire the good fortune in the first place. If they captured them alive, they’d naturally have means of acquiring the sword.
That was what had led to this clash.
They attacked with great tacit understanding. Their goal was to strike with full force right off the bat and end things quickly.
Mu Qing was caught off guard and restricted by other enemies. He couldn’t stop them.
Just as Old Ghost Luo was about to capture their first target, the young man in blue, he felt a sudden, indescribable sense of unease.
For one thing, the young man was just too calm; Old Ghost Luo could even clearly discern the mockery in his gaze.
For another, he sensed the threat of impending death!
As an elite heretical cultivator known far and wide, he had an incomparable abundance of combat experience.
He vanished into thin air without the slightest hesitation.
Practically simultaneously, a sword descended, striking out of nowhere. Its blade surged with explosive, murderous intent, and its hilt scattered a rain of blood-red peach blossoms.
Old Ghost Luo gasped.
This was a weapon fit for a Heavenly Sovereign, and it was obviously intelligent. Its murderous intent was terrifying and immeasurable.
Old Ghost Luo knew that if he’d hesitated earlier, he’d have been run through already.
Off in the distance, the Heavenly Monarchs fighting like mad to seize the sword watched it vanish into thin air before their very eyes.
They were initially confused, but then, they saw it appear beside Su Yi.
“That kid did this!”
“That’s a weapon fit for a Heavenly Sovereign. It already acknowledged him as its master? What on earth did that brat do to win it over?”
“Capturing him means acquiring the sword!”
Numerous Heavenly Monarchs shot toward Su Yi at once.
Mu Qing’s heart shook.
Madam Rao Yun and Zhu Quan were currently locked in combat with him. Their brows furrowed, too.
Old Ghost Luo had failed to capture their target, effectively ruining their plan. They’d lost their perfect opportunity; there was no avoiding getting swept up into a chaotic conflict now.
The voice of the boy in green emanated from within Peach Blossom. “Just stand back and watch, Your Excellency. Allow your subordinate to kill these blind, ignorant fools on your behalf!”
Boom!
The sword rumbled and boomed, its ferocious majesty shaking the nine heavens.
Endless, blood-red darkness descended over the world. The crowd’s hearts palpitated, and their expressions shifted.
What terrifying sword force!
It enveloped heaven and earth like a blood-red tide. There was nowhere it could not reach, and it made the Heavenly Monarchs’ hair stand on end.
But then, Su Yi sent Peach Blossom flying with a smack. “I’m not your excellency, so scram! Quit pestering me!”
“???” The crowd didn’t know what to make of this.
Within Peach Blossom, the boy in green was stunned. “Your Excellency, I already acknowledged you as my master. How could you…”
“I don’t need you, nor do I want you,” said Su Yi. “So don’t hurt me, okay? I’m only in the Unfettered Realm. There are so many Heavenly Monarchs here. Wouldn’t it be better to just pick one of them?”
“So, he’s afraid! Hahaha! I’ve got to say, he’s a smart one!” someone threw back his head and laughed.
The others quickly caught on. They couldn’t help but find it amusing. No wonder that kid flung the sword away as soon as he arrived. So, he’s afraid! He’s throwing away this unparalleled good fortune just to stay alive.
But Old Ghost Luo sensed that something wasn’t quite right here.
He silently put away the black earthenware jar suppressing Pu Xuan and didn’t rush to make any other moves. On the contrary, he was more alert than before.
“Kid, bring me the sword, and I promise to leave you a path to life,” Zhu Quan said gravely.
He and Madam Rao Yun had already ceased to attack. They weren’t willing to keep fighting Mu Qing, as they were worried others would take advantage of the opening.
“That’s right,” said Madam Rao Yun. “You want to live, right? We can work together to escort you out of here safely!”
“Nonsense! Who could fail to realize what you two are after?” Mu Qing led Yu Guangjun and Yang Lingxiao to reconvene with Su Yi and Pu Xuan.
But he didn’t understand. Why would Su Xuanjun just give up on this sword? Don’t tell me he’s really just doing it to stay alive?
The boy in green floated over the sword, looking aggrieved. He said piteously, “Your Excellency, why be so heartless? I know I was rude and ignorant when we met beneath the Mountain of Bitter Rains, and that I insulted you, but I’ve already realized my mistakes. I humbly request an opportunity to right my wrongs and make up for what I’ve done!”
The crowd fell silent. All of the experts who’d been fighting moments prior stared at the boy in a daze. The sword spirit actually survived the End of the Devastation!?
“There’s nothing to discuss,” said Su Yi, his attitude firm.
The boy scrunched up his lips pitifully, took a deep breath, and said with determination, “Your Excellency, even if you don’t wish to acknowledge me, I absolutely must acknowledge you!”
One of the cultivators couldn’t help but interject. “Senior Sword Spirit, if that guy doesn’t know what’s good for him, why insist on lowering yourself?”
Boom!
The cultivator exploded, his blood splattering the air.
Many of the others didn’t even get a clear view of how he’d died. Only the Heavenly Sovereigns could tell that the boy had stomped his feet, sending a streak of sword light out of Peach Blossom.
It flashed through the air and cut down a Silent Realm expert, just like that!
The boy in green scanned the area, then said in a huff, “I’m pissed off, so I urge you not to interrupt!”
Many of the cultivators looked stricken, but not the Heavenly Monarchs. When they looked at the boy in green and Peach Blossom, their gazes were even more heated.
“Everyone, go ahead and fight for it! Don’t pay any attention to an unimportant nobody like me,” shouted Su Yi, disregarding the boy’s aggrieved expression.
Pu Xuan, Mu Qing, and the others were completely baffled, but they knew that it would be great if Su Yi really could just give up the sword and extricate himself from the chaos.
“Your Excellency!” The boy in green directed Peach Blossom and tried to fly back to Su Yi.
“Get any closer, and I’ll kill you!” Su Yi said ruthlessly.
The boy looked as if he’d been struck by lightning. He wanted to cry, but he had no tears.
When the Heavenly Monarchs saw this, they exchanged glances. All of them were ready and raring to go.
Suddenly, Yue Ming stepped forth. “Senior Sword Spirit, I’m a disciple of the Court of the Southern Heavens. Our founder is Heavenly Sovereign Changhen. If you’d be willing to accompany this junior back to my sect, you’d be our most distinguished guest!”
His hair was loose and disheveled, and his whole body was covered in blood. He looked wretched. Someone had attacked him out of nowhere during the chaotic battle over the sword.
But he obviously didn’t care how wretched he looked as he issued this sincere, humble invitation.
He was already picturing what would happen if he returned to the sect with the sword and sword spirit in tow. The founder might well break precedent and leave seclusion to meet with me. He might even clap me on the shoulder and say, ‘You did well!’
“Heavenly Sovereign Changhen?” The boy in green turned to look at Yue Ming. “You mean Jiang Changhen?”
Yue Ming inwardly went mad with delight. So, he knows our founder? That makes this simple!
“That’s right,” Yue Ming said respectfully. “When you arrive at our sect, you’ll naturally have an opportunity to meet with our founder and chat joyfully, arm in arm!”
The Heavenly Monarchs’ hearts sank. If the sword spirit willingly goes to the Court of the Southern Heavens, we’ll be in trouble.
After all, the Court of the Southern Heavens is a Heavenly Sovereign-level faction!
“‘Chat joyfully, arm in arm?’” The boy couldn’t help but laugh. The depths of his gaze shone with madness and bloodlust. “Jiang Changhen is one of the old bastards who killed my master. You’d ask me to ‘chat joyfully, arm in arm’ with him?”
What!? Yue Ming’s mind buzzed. He was completely dumbstruck.
