First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2678 - A World in a Grain of Sand, Fate Becomes a Sea of Stars

Chapter 2678 – A World in a Grain of Sand, Fate Becomes a Sea of Stars

Dust and smoke covered the Five Elements Altar. Chaos source energy rose into the air, blocking the destructive power.

Outside the arena, the crowd gaped. All was deathly silent.

In just three steps and a tap, Su Yi dealt heavy damage to his three powerful opponents! This display of power was so terrifying that even the older-generation Eternals’ scalps went numb with fright.

The River of Destiny had no shortage of heaven-defying geniuses, and there was no shortage of unparalleled chosen sons and daughters of heaven among the Eternal.

But none of them had ever seen anyone like Su Yi before.

He’d yet to even achieve Eternity, yet he used his Undying Power to overcome the insurmountable barrier separating him from the Eternal, suppressing and killing multiple Unfettered Realm experts.

Now that he’d broken through, he was so terrifyingly strong that even those whose true bodies were in the Divine Wandering Realm felt threatened!

Di E, the Dipankara Buddha, and Lu Shi’s killer weapons were each capable of crossing cultivation levels to slay Divine Wandering Realm opponents.

Yet they were totally useless against Su Yi!

Who could have failed to realize the implications?

“He ultimately succeeded in creating a path,” sighed Xiao Jian, a bit dazed. He looked gratified, but also disappointed.

“His… his transformation isn’t over yet!” someone cried out.

The crowd’s hearts stirred. All of them looked over.

Over on the Five Elements Altar, Su Yi’s robes were stained red, but his aura was still transforming, like a flood dragon evolving into a true dragon or a phoenix undergoing rebirth amidst the flames.

Even those old-timers with deep, lofty cultivation bases were unwittingly stunned. How strong will Su Yi become if things go on like this?

Some people still couldn’t accept it. “This… Has he really proven his Dao and broken into Eternity?”

He hadn’t undergone tribulation, yet he’d inexplicably managed to prove his Dao. This overturned their perception of cultivation. It was far too unbelievable.

Meanwhile, atop the Five Elements Altar, as the dust and smoke receded, Di E, the Dipankara Buddha, and Lu Shi came back into view.

The way they looked at Su Yi had changed completely.

“Fellow Daoist, did you really manage to prove your Dao?” asked Lu Shi.

“That’s right.” Su Yi inclined his head.

His cultivation base was rapidly transforming. If his enemies weren’t attacking, he naturally wasn’t going to rush them.

“This is really…” Lu Shi sighed.

Su Yi was already terrifying even before proving his Dao. Now that he’d stepped into Eternity and become an Unfettered Realm expert, his strength was completely different from before.

When the crowd heard Su Yi acknowledge his breakthrough directly, they found it increasingly difficult to stay calm.

“Is this one of the wondrous applications of the Epoch Spark?” asked Di E, his gaze deep and shining with profound light, as if trying to see through all of Su Yi’s secrets.

“It isn’t,” Su Yi said casually.

Di E frowned, but just as he was about to ask further questions, Su Yi laughed. “If you want answers, kneel before me like a disciple before his master, and I’ll happily clear up your doubts.”

Di E snorted coldly, his expression overcast.

The others exchanged glances. He wants a Heavenly Sovereign to kneel before him and bow like a disciple? Su Yi… sure is arrogant!

It was then that the Dipankara Buddha said calmly, “When Dao Fruit ripens, others will surely covet it. It’s hard to predict whether this breakthrough is good fortune or disaster.”

He was obviously hinting at something.

Su Yi glanced into the dome of heaven. “If they want to seize it, they’re welcome to try. We’ll just have to see if they’re capable of it or not.”

As they conversed, Su Yi’s aura rumbled and boomed, like the sound of the Dao, increasingly intense.

Every inch of his skin scattered a dreamlike rain of light, with a wondrous quality that said, “My body is the Dao.”

Countless Eternals’ eyes widened. They couldn’t look away.

All of them had overcome their Eternal Tribulations to step into the Unfettered Realm. Their cultivation bases had transformed then, too.

But compared to Su Yi, their changes weren’t even worth looking at!

“Do you have any idea just how many people are watching what happens here?” asked the Dipankara Buddha, his gaze unreadable.

“I just know that no matter who shows up, no one can save your life,” said Su Yi.

The Dipankara Buddha instantly fell silent.

“Why bother discussing all this? If we wait until he’s established firm footing in the Unfettered Realm, we really won’t have any hope at all,” sighed Lu Shi.

Di E said expressionlessly, “Let’s try it, then.”

Boom!

He straightened his back, then shattered into countless pieces. The chunks of flesh and pools of blood repeatedly recondensed, forming a tall, thin, middle-aged man with gray robes and a Daoist topknot.

His temples were flecked with white, and his gaze was deep and intense. Even just standing there casually, he had the majesty of one gazing down upon the nine heavens and the ten earths.

The crowd was stunned. All of them recognized him. This was Heavenly Sovereign E!

Only then did everyone finally realize which of the Heavenly Sovereigns had possessed Di E. It was the only heretical cultivator among them, a man famed for his cold-blooded tyranny.

He was elusive, cold, and cruel. His Grand Dao of Calamity was terrifying beyond measure.

As he revealed his true appearance, he took a step forward.

Boom!

The Five Elements Altar shook violently.

A current of calamitous power burst forth, like floodwaters bursting through a dam. It seemed intent on enveloping Su Yi completely.

That calamitous power was full of strange, mysterious glyphs. From a distance, it was like gazing upon the source of all calamities.

Su Yi just stood there, unmoving, but an unbelievable scene followed. That boundless flood of tyrannical power was blocked before it could even get near him.

The flood increased in both size and density, rising continuously, but it still couldn’t get near Su Yi.

“So what if you shattered the body you possessed? You’re still just a remnant of will.” Su Yi shook his head slightly and raised his fingertip like the edge of a sword.

Kcch!

The thirty-thousand-foot flood of calamitous power split like cloth. It was like wind parting the waves, or a sword cleaving open the gate of heaven!

“Since you’re seeking death, I’ll just have to give you what you want,” said Su Yi, suddenly vanishing into thin air.

A moment later, a streak of sword qi descended from the heavens and hurtled toward Heavenly Sovereign E.

Heavenly Sovereign E raised his hand. Calamitous power condensed into countless layers of barriers around him.

But that sword qi seemed unstoppable. It bore a hole through every barrier in its path, so tyrannical it seemed downright unreasonable.

Heavenly Sovereign E’s voice boomed like spring thunder. He stretched out his hands and pushed the air in front of him.

The descending streak of sword qi was blocked just three feet from his head, where it shattered, inch by inch.

“You think you can kill me? That’s nothing but shameless boasting!” Heavenly Sovereign E snorted coldly.

But then, a large foot descended from the heavens and stomped on him with ruthless force.

Boom!

Heavenly Sovereign E blocked in time, but his arms were blasted to bits, followed by the rest of his body.

That strike was tyrannical beyond measure!

Some of the old-timers broke out in cold sweats just watching. They all knew that Su Yi had shattered a Heavenly Sovereign’s avatar of will, not the real thing, but even so. Who could have imagined that Su Yi would shatter him in a single stomp?

Had this happened on the River of Destiny, it would have been an enormous act of disrespect. No, it would have been blasphemy!

And it would have provoked a huge disaster!

Lu Shi let out a deep sigh. He attacked too.

He didn’t lose heart, nor did he compromise or beg for mercy, and when he attacked, he showed no outward hint of emotion.

His entire body burned, transforming into a streak of sword qi. Its radiance dazzled the clouds of the nine heavens, its humming resounding in all ten directions.

A moment later, sword qi flashed past.

Bang!!!

Su Yi took several steps back.

Only then did everyone see that Su Yi had raised a hand and suppressed that sword qi, holding it firmly in place.

But its power was far too terrifying. It forced Su Yi a full nine steps back before finally dimming.

Only then did it shatter and dissipate in front of him, inch by inch.

As the dancing light scattered, Lu Shi’s voice rang out. “Your existence is the God Domain’s good fortune. Competing with you in a clash of the Dao of the Sword is my misfortune.”

He sounded a bit frustrated.

Lu Shi was a sword cultivator from the earliest days of the God Domain’s history, one of the first experts of the God Domain to achieve Eternity.

His clone had just lost to Su Yi.

Even after aiming for mutual destruction and sacrificing his clone, Lu Shi had merely forced Su Yi to take nine steps back. Su Yi wasn’t even really injured.

That was why Lu Shi sighed like that.

“This isn’t a competition of the Dao of the Sword. You’re simply my enemy,” Su Yi said softly.

He turned up his nose at Lu Shi’s ruefulness. He didn’t care in the slightest.

Waves of emotion coursed through the crowd’s hearts. All of them fell silent.

Heavenly Sovereign E’s avatar of will had been destroyed, and Lu Shi’s attempt at mutual destruction had ended in failure.

Only the Dipankara Buddha remained!

But against all expectations, the Dipankara Buddha still looked calm, his eyes as tranquil as the waters of an ancient well.

He looked at Su Yi and said, “If you hadn’t taken this step, perhaps some of those old-timers might have held back. After all, an unripe fruit is of no use to them.”

“But things are different now,” the Dipankara Buddha continued. “Even if you win this match, you’re ultimately all but certain to perish here.”

“And who are these old-timers you speak of?” asked Su Yi.

The Dipankara Buddha shook his head. “If you don’t already know, you don’t need to know.”

“You’re just acting mysterious.” Su Yi laughed dryly.

His transformation had already reached its final, critical juncture.

But the Dipankara Buddha didn’t seem at all interested in attacking. “Some things, I didn’t have the opportunity to say earlier, but I’m worried you won’t have the opportunity to hear them later, so I’d like to seize this chance to chat with you.”

“Oh,” said Su Yi. “But I don’t want to hear them.”

Clang!

He stretched out his hand, gripped a streak of sword qi, arrived before the Dipankara Buddha, and swung.

Just like that, he attacked.

The Dipankara Buddha was obviously stunned, but his reaction wasn’t at all slow. As Su Yi’s strike flew toward him, a grand, majestic aura suddenly surged around him.

He clasped his palms, and countless stars, each the size of a grain of sand, revolved around him.

Buddhists said that each grain of sand was its own world. Now, he was surrounded by “worlds” as numerous as the grains of sand in the River Ganges. It was endlessly grand.

Each grain of sand was like a star, or like a fated connection. Together, they formed a sea of fated stars.

Its mysteriousness and immense power startled and impressed countless onlookers.

Fate and karma were among the greatest Laws of the River of Destiny, supreme mysteries of Eternity!

If ranked, both would be supreme even among first-tier Laws of Destiny!

But when Su Yi’s slash landed, the crowd was flabbergasted to discover that the fated sea of stars couldn’t block a single hit. It simply split apart.

It was as if his sword had collapsed the starry sky, shattering countless celestial bodies!

The Dipankara Buddha’s eyes widened in confusion. “That wasn’t reincarnation, was it?”

“It wasn’t,” said Su Yi.

The Dipankara Buddha sighed. “It’s a pity. And here I thought I could see the power of reincarnation transformed into an Eternal Law before I died. Who could have guessed that you had a power of the Grand Dao capable of severing fate..?”

As he spoke, a bloody line appeared on his forehead, then traveled downward, starting from his nose…
