First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2656 - So Many Enemies, So Many Enmities

Chapter 2656 – So Many Enemies, So Many Enmities

“That’s right,” said Lu Jianchi, head lowered.

Ancestor Hun Yun nodded and said no more on the matter, but it would have been obvious to anyone that this Eternal had set his sights on Su Yi. He was temporarily focusing on other things simply because he didn’t want to invite unnecessary trouble just as the Battle for Order was about to begin.

Su Yi noticed Ancestor Hun Yun, too. Ancestor Hun Yun made no effort to disguise his Unfettered Realm cultivation base, which drew Su Yi’s attention.

“Su Yi, since you dared come here, I’ll naturally give you an opportunity to step onto the Five Elements Altar!” a voice suddenly rang out, and Lu Shi’s figure floated into view.

Unlike before, his aura was as inscrutable as an abyss. He seemed far stronger than the avatars of will he’d sent previously!

“Is this your true body?” asked Su Yi.

Lu Shi shook his head. “No, but it’s enough to kill you.”

Suddenly, he transmitted, “Did you bring the other nine Mysteries of Chaos?”

Su Yi transmitted back, “Defeat me, and all of those treasures are yours.”

Lu Shi laughed. “Excellent.”

Earlier, he told Su Yi that he had the Writing Brush of Genesis, but that it was only by gathering all nine of the Mysteries of Chaos that he could reveal its true secrets.

He and Su Yi had also reached an agreement. If he lost during the Battle for Order, the Writing Brush of Genesis would go to Su Yi.

Conversely, if Su Yi lost, he’d have to give his Mysteries of Chaos to Lu Shi!

“Lu Shi, don’t you think you’re overstepping here? Red Pine Mountain isn’t your territory. You don’t get to decide whether or not Su Yi gets the opportunity to step onto the Five Elements Altar,” someone said with a laugh.

A man in brocade robes appeared accompanying this voice, riding on a silver lotus. He rebuffed Lu Shi without the slightest politeness.

The crowd stirred.

That was Yong Tiangang, an Eternal from Limitless Palace and a famed expert of the River of Destiny.

Lu Shi just stood there calmly. He didn’t argue.

Yong Tianguang, meanwhile, smiled at Su Yi. “If you dare to even attempt to enter Red Pine Mountain, you’ll die!”

With that, he turned to leave.

Many of the others looked at Su Yi, their gazes shifting inscrutably.

Su Yi’s appearance had indeed drawn far too much attention. Many of the experts here were watching his every move

One after another, Ancestor Hun Yun, Lu Shi, and Yong Tiangang took a stand. Who could fail to realize what kind of peril was waiting for Su Yi should he proceed to Red Pine Mountain?

Some of them sighed, others looked on with pity, while others delighted in his misfortune.

Suddenly, a “Fellow Daoist Su, I’m betting on your victory this time!” a voice suddenly rang out.

Uproar ensued. Everyone looked over and saw a handsome young man in silver robes floating toward them.

This was none other than Wang Zhiwu, the Master of Legends.

Those onlookers who recognized him were stunned. They couldn’t even imagine how someone like him could publicly announce his confidence in Su Yi’s victory.

Those who didn’t know Wang Zhiwu’s victory were surprised, too. After all, no small number of terrifying experts had already set their sights on Su Yi. Given the circumstances, who’d dare to publicly bet on Su Yi’s victory?

“The Battle for Order isn’t about gambling. What good will betting on my victory do you?” Su Yi laughed dryly.

Wang Zhiwu burst into laughter. “None of them think highly of your chances. Only I believe you can win. When the Battle for Order ends, the outcome will show whether I’m a blind, ignorant fool—or whether they are.”

Su Yi asked with great interest, “But this is the perfect opportunity to kill me. Don’t you want to seize it?”

Wang Zhiwu pointed to his head and laughed. “I’m not sick of living just yet. I’d like to hold onto this head of mine a while longer.”

With that, he floated off.

Su Yi laughed, but didn’t linger. He started walking deeper into the Red Pine Mountain Forbidden Zone.

No one tried to stand in his way. Many of the onlookers were eager to fight, but in the end, all of them held back.

It wasn’t that they were afraid of Su Yi, but that they knew that attacking Su Yi now would make them the target of countless arrows!

The first to strike would be the first to die!

Strangely, the black sheep trailed after Su Yi at the usual ten-thousand-foot distance, but no one seemed to notice her existence.

Naturally, she was doing this on purpose.

The blood-red tribulation light dispersed, and the landscape came back into view.

There were cultivators all along the path, all of them shooting through the sky as they headed toward the same place.

Most were beneath the Eternal level, but there were a few true Eternals in the mix. Some were from the River of Destiny, others, the Central Divine Continent.

There weren’t a lot of them, but wherever they appeared, they drew widespread attention.

It was like a gathering of rulers. Even if you searched all of history, few occasions compared!

“I’m not going to Red Pine Mountain for the Battle for Order. All I want is a shot at Eternity!” whispered an older-generation cultivator.

Most of the others felt the same way. The Battle for Order was far too terrifying. Those yet to achieve Eternity weren’t qualified to compete. If they tried, they’d just be throwing their lives away!

“If I can watch the Battle for Order, even from afar, this trip won’t have been in vain,” someone said with longing.

The Battle for Order was an unprecedented change, one that would determine the survival of the God Domain.

There was no telling how many powerful Eternals would participate. Who wouldn’t have wanted to watch the battle?

“They say that this Battle for Order has caused a commotion even on the River of Destiny. Numerous Eternal orthodoxies are paying close attention!”

“It’s a pity, but the likes of us aren’t qualified to compete.”

“Don’t even consider it. Even Eternals risk dying in a battle like that, let alone us.”

Similar conversations rang out without end.

Wherever Su Yi paused, he drew countless gazes, and all manner of comments.

“If I were Su Yi, there’s no way I’d have shown up!”

“It’s true. He might have dominated the God Domain with his sword, and he might have intimidated the Four Divine Continents, but if he tries to participate in the Battle for Order, he won’t even be able to compete…”

“Nah, it seems to me that Sword Venerate Su wouldn’t have dared to show up unless he had reason to be confident. Who knows? He might well create another miracle!”

“Su Yi? Hah. Do you really think the experts of the River of Destiny will let that happen?”

“To Su Yi, the Battle for Order is a death trap!”

…Similar conversations arose throughout the crowd, one after another. Almost no one thought highly of Su Yi’s chances.

Only a handful of experts thought highly of Su Yi’s chances, but their voices were quickly drowned out.

Su Yi disregarded this. It had no impact on his mental state at all.

The black sheep heard it all too, and she listened with relish. It was through these conversations that she finally learned what kind of position Su Yi occupied in the God Domain, and how many astonishing feats he’d accomplished over the years.

In the end, even she couldn’t help but be impressed. There’s no denying it. Su Yi is unbelievable.

You really can’t judge him by his cultivation base!

His feats were just that dazzling and incredible. They were like miracles.

I wonder whether or not my lost memories include any information about Su Yi or his past lives… wondered the sheep. She racked her brains for a long time, but her memories were missing, so she came up empty.

Kaboom!

Thunder rumbled in the distance, and the sky rippled and shook.

The crowd could already see a spatial fault in the distance. It connected heaven and earth, standing there like a natural barrier between worlds.

On one side of the fault lay the barren Central Divine Continent. On the other side lay a seemingly endless void. No one knew where it led to.

The churning blood-red tribulation light faded around the spacetime fault, and deep within it, the illusory form of an enormous mountain gradually appeared.

It was getting clearer and clearer.

It was still indistinct, but the onlookers could dimly discern that the mountain was unimaginably vast. It appeared amidst the void, completely covered in dense chaos mist, making it seem incomparably mysterious.

They didn’t even need to think to know that this was Red Pine Mountain!

A group had gathered far from the spacetime fault. Every last one of them was terrifying, with a monstrous aura.

Their ranks included Ancestor Hun Yun, Wang Zhiwu, Yu Chiyang, Old Daoist Crow, Dao Lord Jin Hua, Cang Lingzi, and the others from the Borderless Mountains.

These familiar figures were scattered around the vicinity, each surrounded by a group of followers.

Them aside, Su Yi spotted Di E and the Dipankara Buddha!

Di E wore wide-sleeved black robes, and his long hair hung loose. His skin was as fair as jade.

He too stood with numerous others.

When Su Yi arrived, Di E merely glanced at him before retracting his gaze.

He didn’t say or do anything. Even his expression barely wavered.

But a smile tugged at Su Yi’s lips. He suddenly recalled the way the black sheep had repeatedly forced Di E back during their last encounter, ultimately forcing him to flee in disgrace.

But Su Yi knew that last time, the God Domain’s source power was still limiting Di E’s cultivation. He wouldn’t have been so wretched otherwise.

Things… were different now!

Su Yi couldn’t even say for certain which of the Heavenly Sovereigns’ will had possessed Di E.

“Long time no see, Fellow Daoist.” Meanwhile, the Dipankara Buddha suddenly started walking toward him. His gait was neither fast nor slow, and he stopped not far from Su Yi, clasped his palms in greeting, and calmly chanted a sutra.

Whoosh!

All eyes were instantly on Su Yi and the Dipankara Buddha.

The black sheep, meanwhile, stiffened. Her heart shook. She could sense a familiar—and dangerous—aura emanating from the Dipankara Buddha.

Her eyes flashed. Strange. Who is that old baldy? Is there a grudge between us? If not, why would I have reacted so strongly to his presence?

“It really has been a while,” Su Yi said with a sigh. “Neither you nor Di E participated in the battle in the Borderless Mountains. Even now, I can’t help but find it an awful pity.”

The Dipankara Buddha’s gaze was clear and his voice gentle. “It isn’t too late to meet again now. I won’t lie to you; I’ve been waiting for this day for far, far too long.”

Su Yi laughed. “That goes for me, too.”

The Dipankara Buddha flipped his palm, and a pale purple pendant depicting two fish floated into the air. “While I’m at it, I’ll avenge Gu Huaxian and let her departed spirit rest in peace.”

Su Yi took a sip of wine, then nodded in complete agreement. “It really is time that we ended our enmities, both from this lifetime and from past lifetimes.”

The two of them spoke like old friends reunited, but every word dripped with murderous intent!
