First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2600 - The Patriarch Appears

Chapter 2600 – The Patriarch Appears

Dust and smoke permeated the air. The slopes collapsed.

Everyone froze in place, stunned.

Just one slash had ripped through the mountain’s formations, forcing back powerful enemies. The patriarch’s handwritten sign had split on impact!

No one could have imagined that when the disheveled man attacked, he’d be so shockingly, terrifyingly strong.

Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu hadn’t gotten directly involved, but when he saw this, he too was unwittingly stunned. His eyes narrowed into slits. What a terrifying slash!

That endlessly tyrannical sword force was enough to put pressure on even a Heavenly Sovereign like him!

He’d only ever felt pressure like that against other Heavenly Sovereigns.

I know all of the other Heavenly Sovereigns of the Eternal Heavens Domain, but this sword cultivator is completely unfamiliar… Just who is he? Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu was baffled.

“How is this possible…?” Off in the distance, Ninth Deacon Song Ming was utterly despondent.

The same was true of the other disciples nearby, the ones who’d been sent flying earlier. All of them stood there like statues, as devastated as if they’d lost their parents.

Someone had just cleaved open their sign! That was like shattering their pride and trampling all over their dignity!

Qing Shi, Qing Li, Qing Yin, and Qing Pu had unsightly looks on their faces. They, too, found this hard to accept.

They’d lived a long time, and they’d experienced more than their fair share of ups and downs on the River of Destiny.

They were “just” elders of the Lower Court of Three Purities Temple, but even so, they could sit with Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu of the Eternal Heavens Domain as equals

It wasn’t that their cultivations were all that terrifying, but that they were backed by Three Purities Temple.

A founding sect of the Daoist tradition!

Yet now, someone had destroyed their sign. How could they possibly have accepted this?

All was oppressive and deathly silent save for the low hum of a sword.

Li Sansheng looked down at Snow Cap, an ashamed look on his face. He murmured, “I borrowed Boss’s former sword, yet I still couldn’t destroy Purple Firmament Mountain completely. I can’t help but feel ashamed of myself.”

“???” The onlookers found this hard to take. Is that any way to speak? And just who is this boss of his, anyway?

Off in the distance, even Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu found it hard to stay calm. Li Sansheng’s terrifying power had stunned even him, and he felt a hint of dread. He couldn’t even imagine what kind of person his boss was, or how high his cultivation was.

Don’t tell me he’s from the Far Shore of the River of Destiny? Something occurred to Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu, and the more he thought about it, the more sense it made.

As a Heavenly Sovereign, he knew that the Three Purities Daoist Court’s true home base wasn’t on the River of Destiny itself, but rather, on its Far Shore.

The way he saw it, if Li Sansheng’s backer wasn’t a fellow expert of the Far Shore of Destiny, he would never have dared to attack the Lower Court of Three Purities Temple.

“I’m leaving. Want to try to stop me?” Li Sansheng swept his gaze across the elders. His eyes seemed to be saying, “Try it if you dare!”

Qing Shi and the others were visibly enraged, and a deep sense of humiliation welled within their hearts. Still, none of them dared to try anything reckless. Li Sansheng’s attack had thoroughly intimidated them!

“It’s a pity.” Li Sansheng grumbled, then turned to leave. Boss just told me to destroy the Lower Court’s sign and teach them a lesson. He didn’t say anything about killing anyone.

Li Sansheng wouldn’t dare do anything of the sort without explicit orders.

He’d lived his life without reservations, except when it came to his boss. Li Sansheng obeyed his commands to the letter.

He’d hoped that the members of the Lower Court would foolishly try to stop him. If they did, he could seize the opportunity to kill them with impunity. Unfortunately, they weren’t giving him the opportunity.

He’d come here in high spirits and caused a massive disturbance, only to leave in dejection.

“You destroyed our sign, and now you just want to leave?” Qing Shi suddenly bellowed.

Li Sansheng stopped in his tracks, flowers of delight blooming in his heart. “I’m not leaving, so quick, come and kill me!”

“….” Qing Shi’s face was ashen. He took a deep breath, faced the Central Palace, and clasped his fist in solemn greeting. “Disciple Qing Shi humbly requests a visit from the patriarch!”

He spoke slowly and clearly, every word booming throughout the nine heavens. A mysterious, inscrutable power of the Grand Dao blanketed all of Purple Firmament Mountain.

Suddenly, the air shook, and a blue cloud of the Grand Dao appeared.

Everyone looked over and saw an ethereal figure atop it, dignified and contemptuous.

It might have looked like he was standing atop a blue cloud, yet he seemed to transcend the River of Destiny altogether. He seemed close at hand, yet endlessly far away and unattainable.

Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu’s heart shook. That’s… that’s the aura of one who’s transcended Destiny! That ethereal figure has got to come from the Far Shore of Destiny!

Qing Shi, Qing Li, and the other members of Three Purities Temple all bowed in greeting. “Welcome, Patriarch!”

They spoke in unison, their voices full of piety, awe, and reverence.

This ethereal figure was none other than one of the patriarchs of Three Purities Temple!

Li Sansheng’s expression shifted, and he said with vexation, “Ol’ Charlatan, you haven’t been part of the River of Destiny for a long time, yet here you are. What, do you plan to violate the Eternal Pact?”

The ethereal figure on the cloud scanned the area before his gaze ultimately landed on Li Sansheng, or rather, the sword he carried.

“So, you’re one of his subordinates,” the ethereal figure whispered.

Every word was like the booming of the Grand Dao.

Unbelievably, as this voice rang out, the collapsed mountain and collapsed ancient buildings returned to normal, as if nothing had happened.

Even the shattered sign pieced itself back together, showing no sign of damage!

In the blink of an eye, the whole mountain was just as it had been before.

“It’s been destroyed once. What good does repairing it do you?” jeered Li Sansheng. “Even if a prostitute somehow restores her hymen, nothing can change the fact that she’s been fucked before, right?”

His remarks were as vulgar as could be. That barbed mockery infuriated everyone in the Lower Court of Three Purities Temple. This guy is seriously comparing our sect to a prostitute? And he’s comparing our ruined sign to a hooker’s lost chastity?

He deserves to die ten thousand deaths for that!!

“How unparalleled of a figure is your master? Your vulgar tongue is a disgrace to you both,” the ethereal figure on the cloud said calmly.

He sounded calm, but Li Sansheng felt a sudden, powerful sense of impending crisis, and he retreated explosively without the slightest hesitation.

A single step carried him far beyond the mountain, and he was traveling at top speed. With every step he took, heaven and earth shifted around him. That was true whether he retreated or advanced.

This time, Li Sansheng retreated nine steps in total!

As he took his ninth step, his brow furrowed, and he swung Snow Cap without hesitation.

Boom!

The sky exploded, filling the area with divine radiance. Time and space showed signs of collapse.

Only then did the crowd see that the blue cloud was suppressing Li Sansheng. It had prevented him from escaping.

Li Sansheng’s sword hummed and shook in his grip as if wailing.

The onlookers’ hearts shook. How domineering had Li Sansheng been earlier? He’d barged into Purple Firmament Mountain as if there were no one here!

Yet now, he’d been forced to flee into the distance, only for a blue cloud of the Grand Dao to suppress him!

“Is that all you’ve got, you old charlatan?” jeered Li Sansheng.

As he spoke, he suddenly shook in midair, and…

Boom!

The sword, Snow Cap, erupted with endless sword force, breaking through and suppressing the blue cloud of the Grand Dao.

Li Sanjiu seized the chance to flee.

“I already destroyed your sign, and not even you can stop me from leaving, you old charlatan!”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, Li Sansheng vanished.

Over on Purple Firmament Mountain, that ethereal figure wasn’t the least bit angry, nor did he attack again.

“Go back and tell your boss that Three Purities Temple has been waiting to end our old grudge once and for all!” said that ethereal figure, his voice spreading endlessly into the distance.

The crowd exchanged glances, their hearts shaking. Not even the patriarch could stop that guy from leaving!?

Just who is he? He’s seriously that capable?

“We were inept, and our failure has humiliated the entire sect. Please, punish us, Patriarch!” Qing Shi lowered his head in shame.

The other elders did the same. All of them were terrified and ill at ease.

This battle hadn’t just left their individual reputations in shambles; it was a severe affront to the whole sect’s prestige!

“This wasn’t your fault,” said the ethereal figure. It seemed he was no longer interested in discussing this topic. “Going forward, rein in your arrogance and impatience. Focus quietly on your cultivation, and don’t invite any further trouble.”

“Understood!” The crowd voiced their assent.

“Patriarch, might this disciple be so bold as to ask what exactly triggered this incident?” Qing Shi asked tentatively.

He wasn’t the only one who wanted to know; everyone else was wondering the same thing.

None of them knew that sword cultivator’s name or origins. He’d attacked Purple Firmament Mountain out of the blue. Even now, they had no idea who he was.

“A survivor from the All-Profound Dominion who escaped to the River of Destiny. You needn’t concern yourself with him. You’ll naturally understand his origins later,” said that ethereal figure. “What you need to do is watch the one they call Su Yi. The God Domain’s imminent Battle for Order won’t just rewrite the balance of power of the present day; it will have a huge impact on the direction of both the River of Destiny and the All-Profound Domain.

“And Su Yi is the source of all of these changes. Unless he dies, these disasters will not end, and peace will be forever unattainable!”

As that ethereal figure spoke, he faded away.

“Farewell, Patriarch Zhao!” The crowd bowed in greeting.

However, all of them were incomparably baffled. How could the God Domain’s Battle for Order impact the River of Destiny?

It will even affect the All-Profound Dominion on the Far Shore of the River of Destiny?

That’s just unbelievable!

“The disasters will not end, and there will be no peace until Su Yi dies?” Heavenly Sovereign Wuxu repeated. He too was a bit confused.

Just where did Su Yi come from? Why would Patriarch Zhao of Three Purities Temple consider him the source of all these changes?
