Chapter 2465 - A Blocked Path
Chapter 2465 – A Blocked Path
At one of the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent’s branches of the Qilin Trading Company, Su Yi learned that the Qilin had run into a thorny problem.
It was actually rather simple.
A year ago, the Great Yin Race had sent an emissary to propose a marriage alliance with the Qilin. They were requesting the hand of Qi Wei, the daughter of the leader of the Qilin Race.
That was the root of the trouble. Both Qi Wei and the Qilin Race higher-ups made their opposition to this marriage alliance clear.
However, due to extraordinary circumstances, they’d had no choice but to change their tune and accept this marriage proposal.
As for the specific reasons? Only the Qilin Race’s old-timers knew. No one else had any idea.
Naturally, Su Yi didn’t know, either.
Now, Qi Wei and Shang Yun, a Holy Son of the Great Yin Divine Race, were due to get married in just one month!
Qi Wei had helped Su Yi on numerous occasions. He naturally wouldn’t remain a bystander. He’d tried using talismans to contact her and ascertain her attitude.
If she’d been forced to accept this marriage, he’d lend a hand, and if she were getting married of her own free will, he’d naturally give her a wedding gift.
But what made Su Yi frown was that he couldn’t reach Qi Wei.
According to the people at the Qilin Trading Company, Qi Wei hadn’t been allowed to leave the Qilin Race’s territory at all during the past year. No one could contact her, either.
Su Yi could tell that something wasn’t quite right about all of this, which is why he’d decided to visit the Qilin personally.
After pondering silently in his wicker chair for a while, Su Yi asked suddenly, “Can you contact your master now?”
The one steering the boat was a Greater God from the Qilin Trading Company. His name was Shi Jian, and he was Li Sanjiu’s disciple!
Li Sanjiu was Qi Wei’s Dao Protector and a Nine-Tribulation Master God. He’d lent Su Yi his aid at Skybright Divine Mountain, and he’d escorted Yi Chen safely to Sunset Perch Island. Su Yi naturally knew him.
Su Yi also remembered that, when Li Sanjiu left Sunset Perch Island, Li Sanjiu had hesitated, then refused to answer any questions about Qi Wei. He just said that all was well.
It was obvious that he was holding information back. Looking back on it now, it seemed that Li Sanjiu had known about the marriage alliance with the Great Yin Divine Race!
“Master just said that he hopes you won’t visit the Qilin,” Shi Jian said respectfully. “However, Master wouldn’t tell me why.”
Su Yi furrowed his brow. Li Sanjiu doesn’t want me to come? Don’t tell me he thinks I can’t help? Or is there some other reason?
Out loud, he said, “Tell me more about the Taiyin Divine Race. Why would they propose a marriage alliance with the Qilin?”
Shi Jian scratched his head. “Senior Su, all this junior knows is that they aren’t of this era. They’re from a spacetime forbidden zone known as the Thunderwind Sea.
“I don’t know why they proposed a marriage alliance, but it seems to me that the relationship between them and the Qilin isn’t simple. It seems…” Shi Jian paused, then said uncertainly, “It seems like they’ve been acquainted for a long time already.”
They knew each other already?
Su Yi’s eyes flashed as he sensed the source of the problem.
The Qilin Race’s origins were incomparably ancient and mysterious, but they typically kept a low profile, seldom venturing into the outside world. They were much like the unknown territories in that they seldom got personally involved in worldly affairs.
But no one dared to underestimate them!
Throughout the ages, a rumor had circulated about them. They said that the Qilin Race hadn’t originated in the God Domain!
And the Great Yin Divine Race wasn’t of the present day, either. They’d come here through the Thunder Flame Sea spacetime forbidden zone.
If they and the Qilin really were long since acquainted, that was unquestionable proof that the rumors surrounding the Qilin Race’s origins were true!
Shi Jian asked cautiously, “Senior Su, if Master doesn’t want you to go, I’m sure he has his reasons, so… why insist on going?”
Su Yi shook his head. “You don’t get it.”
Shi Jian instantly fell silent.
Su Yi, meanwhile, asked, “How long will it take until we reach Qilin territory?”
Shi Jian didn’t miss a beat. “We’ll arrive in less than half a month.”
“Half a month, huh? That’s enough,” Su Yi whispered to himself.
This trip really was far too rushed. He’d yet to recover from the injuries he’d taken in the Hazy Sea Forbidden Zone, but here he was, already on his way to visit the Qilin.
If not for his deep bond with Qi Wei, he would never have pushed himself like this.
Next, I’ve got to focus on treating my wounds. Even if I can’t fully recover before we reach Qilin territory, I ought to at least be able to get most of the way there, thought Su Yi.
When he thought of his wounds, he couldn’t help but sigh.
He’d excavated his latent potential in the face of peril during his battle with Di E. Just a little more, and he’d have been able to break through.
But Di E saw through him just in time, and he chose to retreat rather than give him the chance he needed!
Still, their battle had done Su Yi an enormous amount of good. He’d further excavated and awakened his latent potential, reaching unparalleled heights at his current level of cultivation.
That aside, the revelations and experiences of this battle had let Su Yi catch a glimpse of the next level of his cultivation.
He was currently in the No Laws, No Heaven level, but that was just the beginning.
When he broke through, he’d enter the second, as-of-yet unknown level of his unique Undying Realm cultivation.
Prior to his battle with Di E, Su Yi couldn’t even guess at its secrets.
But after his battle, Su Yi had reached the threshold of the next level, and he could catch a glimpse of its scenery!
It was just a glimpse, but that was still enough to leave Su Yi overcome with excitement.
According to his predictions, when he stepped into the next level, he wouldn’t just be strong enough to fight Nine-Tribulation Master Gods; even killing them would be easy!
All I need now is an opportunity to break through! Su Yi was already looking forward to it.
The treasure ship shifted through the air, like a flowing beam of light, carrying Su Yi further and further into the distance.
……
Seven days later.
The treasure ship abruptly stopped in midair.
Su Yi, who was tending to his injuries on board, silently opened his eyes.
A figure with a terrifying presence had appeared beneath the distant skies. He was dressed in black, with a white beard, and he looked middle-aged. He was obviously a Nine-Tribulation Master God!
Practically simultaneously, Shi Jian exclaimed from on board the treasure ship, “Ancestor, what are you doing here?”
“Is Fellow Daoist Su on board?” The middle-aged man took a step forward and approached.
“He is.” Shi Jian hurriedly bowed in greeting.
This new arrival was called Qi Rongshan. He was an old-timer of the Qilin Race. Even their leader had to treat him with respect!
“This old man is Qi Rongshan of the Qilin Race. I humbly request your forgiveness for showing up uninvited, Fellow Daoist Su.” Qi Rongshan bowed politely and clasped his fist.
Su Yi emerged from the cabin and looked at him. “I’m on my way to visit your territory, yet now, you’ve come to meet me en route. Why is that?”
Qi Rongshan sighed and clasped his fist. “I’m here to pass on a single message. I hope you’ll end your journey here!”
Su Yi couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at that. He was just a week’s journey from the territories of the Qilin Race, yet now, they’d sent a powerful, influential older-generation here just to tell him not to come!
That was far too out of the ordinary. Su Yi could tell that there was a lot more to the Great Yin Divine Race’s marriage alliance than met the eye.
“I really don’t understand why you’re doing this,” said Su Yi, taking out a jug of wine and having a sip.
“I have no desire to be secretive, but the reasons relate to a historical dispute between us and the Great Yin Divine Race,” Qi Rongshan said gravely. “Were it not absolutely necessary, this old man wouldn’t dare to interfere with your plans to visit us. I humbly request your understanding.”
With that, he clasped his fist once more.
This was an ancient expert of the Qilin Race. He could have shaken the entire Eastern Victory Divine Continent with a single stomp of his feet.
Yet when he faced Su Yi, he was polite and respectful. He obviously wasn’t faking it, either!
“Qi Wei is about to get married. This should be cause for celebration for the entire clan, so why are you standing in my way? What, I can’t even go celebrate with you?” Su YI frowned.
Qi Rongshan smiled bitterly, an exasperated look on his face. “Under ordinary circumstances, if we knew you were on your way, the whole clan would be ready to welcome you at our gates.
“But these aren’t ordinary circumstances. If you go there, you’ll inevitably get mixed up in enormous trouble!” Qi Rongshan said staunchly. “We of the Qilin Race absolutely won’t just stand back and watch that happen!”
“If I go, I’m sure to run into trouble?” Su Yi couldn’t help but find this surprising. “This is a marriage alliance between the Great Yin and Qilin Races. How could that possibly implicate me in any kind of trouble.”
He paused, then probed, “Are you saying that this marriage alliance isn’t cause for celebration, but rather… a disaster?”
Qi Rongshan shook his head. “This is our clan’s business. Please don’t ask any further questions.”
Su Yi’s brow furrowed. The more Qi Rongshan refused to answer his questions, the more concerned he was about Qi Wei’s situation.
After all, she was the one directly involved in this marriage alliance.
“And if I insist on going?” asked Su Yi.
Qi Rongshan’s expression filled with uncertainty. In the end, he gnashed his teeth and said, “So long as I’m here, I won’t let you get swept into this no matter what!”
Su Yi laughed. “Surely I can at least go visit the ancient Xi Family?”
After the battle on Skybright Mountain, Qi Wei arranged for the entire Xi Family to move to the Eastern Victory Divine Continent, and they currently dwelled in the Qilin Race’s territory.
Su Yi really was visiting the Qilin in part to visit Xi Ning.
This response left Qi Rongshan unwittingly stunned. After a brief pause, he sighed. “After the young mistress’s wedding, I’ll personally accompany you on a visit to the Xi Family. As for now…”
He faced Su Yi and bowed deep at the waist. “Please, go no further!”
Su Yi silently took a sip of wine, then said calmly, “If you can stop me, I naturally won’t go any further. If you can’t, get out of my way.”
Shi Jian’s heart shook. He visibly paled. Is Su Yi going to attack the ancestor!?
