First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2372 - Enduring and Waiting

Chapter 2372 – Enduring and Waiting

Li Fuyou had had no home in the God Domain. He’d spent his life wandering all of creation until he finally perished on the battlefield.

But Yi Daoxuan had had a home: Sunset Perch Island. He’d lived here for a long time. It was here that he’d entertained his friends, married, and had children.

The sisters Su Yi had placed in the Ice Drinker Sword Realm, Yi Ling and Yi Shuang, were Yi Daoxuan’s descendants.

Sunset Perch Island was the site of far, far too many of Yi Daoxuan’s memories. To Yi Daoxuan, this place was his home, a place he had to spend his life protecting.

Su Yi had returned to the God Domain bearing Yi Daoxuan’s memories and experiences. He naturally saw Sunset Perch Island as his home, too.

The River Child soon returned.

“Your Excellency, although I gathered a lot of spoils, there’s nothing overly rare or worthy of your attention,” the River Child said through gnashed teeth. “I dare say with certainty that Divine Billows Palace was prepared for your arrival. They hid all their sect-protecting treasures in the Kongtong Hidden Realm. How about… we fight our way in?”

He was obviously bitter that he hadn’t been able to attack the Kongtong Hidden Realm.

Su Yi shook his head. “It’s easy to enter the Kongtong Hidden Realm, but hard to leave. It’s a refuge Ol’ Yao Divine Billows left for his sectmates. When disaster strikes, all he has to do is blow it up, and no opponent will be able to escape.”

The River Child gasped. “The old man is seriously that ruthless?”

A moment later, he laughed and passed a Daoist seal swathed in purple lightning to Su Yi. “Your Excellency, this is the only Undying weapon I found that I’d consider rare. Please have a look at it.”

The Purple Lightning Seal!

This was one of Divine Billows Palace’s sect-protecting treasures. It wasn’t any weaker than the Sea-Stabilizing Pearl.

The River Child gave Su Yi the rest of the spoils next. There really weren’t very many rare or precious treasures, but there were no small number of resources that could satisfy Su Yi’s need for cultivation resources.

The way he saw it, that was plenty.

Then, without any further delays, Su Yi led the River Child and the little monkey back to Sunset Perch Island.

That very day, word of Divine Billows Palace’s misfortune spread, shaking the Endless Ocean once more!

……

The Endless Ocean had been tumultuous of late, with winds rising and clouds churning.

All of this was because of Su Yi’s return. He’d thrown the Endless Ocean’s balance of power into complete disarray.

Spirit Vessel Yao Court’s operation targeting Yan Beixue had failed, and they’d been forced to lower their heads to Su Yi!

At Sunset Perch Island, the trap five top factions had worked together to set fell apart, and the experts of three spacetime forbidden zones returned home in abject defeat!

Today, Divine Billows Palace had met with disaster too. Even their leader, Mo Xuchou, and many of their higher-ups had been killed!

It was just one astonishing development after another. Who wouldn’t have been shocked?

“The Master of Sunset Perch Island is out for revenge!”

“Su Yi… is simply too terrifying. They say he’s still just a Fortune Realm Greater God?”

“Hmph! Throughout the ages, when has a Greater God ever been so strong?”

“Just wait. Now that Senior Su has returned, the Endless Ocean will no longer know peace!”

…Everyone was talking about it.

News quickly reached the four divine continents, stirring up yet another massive wave of uproar.

Su Yi had vanished from the public eye for over a year. During that time, all sorts of big things had happened, and Su Yi had gradually faded from people’s awareness.

But now that word of the major upsets in the Endless Ocean had arrived, Su Yi was yet again the center of attention throughout the God Domain!

“Su Yi has already grown strong enough to deal top factions a massive blow?”

Many people suddenly realized that in just a few short years, Su Yi had undergone an earth-shaking transformation.

It wasn’t just that he’d risen to prominence with shocking speeds; his cultivation had progressed shockingly quickly, too. He’d gone from a Lesser God to a Greater God in a matter of years.

This was simply unbelievable.

When cultivating the Divine Dao, every step forward was arduous. Some old-timers lived so long they lost track, and they still couldn’t realize any further breakthroughs.

But look at Su Yi. In just a few years, he’d become a Greater God. You could have searched the entire God Domain without finding another person capable of that!

“If things go on like this, Su Yi will reach the Undying Realm and become a Master God. How strong do you think he’ll be then?”

This question provoked heated debates throughout the God Domain. Countless people tried to analyze his strength and guess.

“I can see it already. Senior Su’s rapid rise has surely left his enemies unable to eat or sleep in peace. The pressure on them must be increasing by the day!” some people said with conviction.

It was true. Practically everyone in the God Domain knew about Su Yi and his enemies’ grudge.

Who could fail to realize that the stronger Su Yi grew, the more pressure he’d put on his enemies?

……

The Western Paradise Spirit Mountains, beneath a bodhi tree.

“He just brought a spirit of the natural order with him to the Endless Ocean, that’s all.” The Dipankara Buddha shook his head. “It isn’t even worth mentioning.”

Su Yi really had caused an enormous disturbance in the Endless Ocean, but after learning the truth of the situation, the Dipankara Buddha just sighed to himself.

All of this was enough to prove one thing:

Without that spirit of the natural order shaped like a child, Su Yi could never have caused such an enormous disturbance!

In other words, relying purely on his own strength, Su Yi wasn’t yet capable of threatening peak factions!

Knowing this was enough for the Dipankara Buddha.

“Less than thirty years remain until the Dark Days of Legend arrive. I suspect that both Master Golden Crane and the Divine Billows Sage Monarch are waiting for it; that’s why neither made an appearance,” said the Dipankara Buddha. “It makes sense, too. No one wants to fight to the death with Su Yi at this juncture.”

When the Dark Days of Legend arrived, the God Domain would enter the darkest, bloodiest, most tumultuous era of its history. When the time came, the world would descend into chaos, and the existing order would collapse.

But…

To Nine Tribulation Master Gods, the arrival of the Dark Days of Legend represented a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

The world’s balance of power would undergo a complete reshuffling. Some forbidden zones, places no one had ever been able to explore, would open.

Like “beyond the nine heavens!” And the Central Divine Continent, the place seen as anathema to all life!

Existences not of this age would enter the world, and even the forces of the River of Destiny were sure to get involved.

Most importantly, during the Dark Days of Legend, there would be opportunities to cross the threshold of the River of Destiny, prove their Dao, and become Eternal!

That was the sort of good fortune Nine-Tribulation Master Gods could only dream of. Millions of years might pass without such an opportunity arising. Who’d be willing to miss it?

The Dipankara Buddha dared say with certainty that it wasn’t just Master Golden Crane or the Divine Billows Sage Monarch. Every old-timer of their level was surely making preparations, too!

I’ll just let him flail about a while longer, the Dipankara Buddha thought to himself.

He closed his eyes and silently started meditating.

……

Similar discussions of Su Yi arose in the Three Purities Daoist Court, Divine Court of Providence, Severed Heavens Demon Mountain, and other top factions.

Without exception, their attitudes toward Su Yi were restrained. They’d chosen to endure.

This was, in part, because numerous battles over the past few years had proven that defeating Su Yi wasn’t easy.

It was also, in part, because of the Dark Days of Legend. Twenty or so years remained. That might have sounded like a long time, but to cultivators, twenty years was nothing at all.

It was the other top factions of the Endless Ocean who were the most startled and afraid.

When the experts of Spirit Vessel Yao Court learned what had happened to Divine Billows Palace, all of them felt shaken. They inwardly celebrated that when Su Yi visited, they chose to endure the humiliation instead of attacking him.

If they had, they undoubtedly wouldn’t have fared any better than Divine Billows Palace!

No wonder the founder left those three brocade pouches to warn us. Su Yi… really is far too terrifying… thought Sect Leader Zhang Wushan.

“All of this proves that I didn’t survive my encounter with Su Yi because I’m a weakling. Rather, surviving was a feat worthy of congratulations!” said Luo Yunxiu, pride written all over his face. He increasingly felt that wimping out had been wise and courageous. He even felt that he deserved a generous reward from the sect!

Much more than Spirit Vessel Yao Court, the other three factions who’d worked with Divine Billows Palace to convene the Sunset Perch Dao Assembly were terrified that Su Yi would attack out of nowhere.

They even prepared to flee for their lives!

The Blue Sparrow Forbidden Zone lay in the far reaches of the Endless Ocean, and it was shrouded in turbulent spacetime windstorms year round.

The forbidden zone was empty save for a single, solitary, ancient tower.

The tower was a thousand feet tall and mottled with age.

“Prince, Ravening Wolf Daoist Court said that you cannot escape your share of blame for Prince Xun Huo’s death during the Sunset Perch Dao Assembly. They demand an explanation, and they won’t let up until they receive one.”

Qingyang Feng sat cross-legged at the base of the tower, tending to his wounds as an old servant respectfully delivered a report.

“They want an explanation?” Qingyang Feng’s brow furrowed. “Su Yi killed Xun Huo, but instead of blaming him, they’re complaining to me?”

The old servant lowered his head. He dared not argue.

After a moment’s silence, Qingyang Feng sighed. “Very well. All of us are from the Epoch of Sumeru, so we’d best not upset the peace. Tell them that I’ll of course give them an explanation later.”

“Understood!”

Xun Huo was the armored man who’d died by Su Yi’s hand not long ago. His Blood-Drinking Demon Armor had even become one of Su Yi’s trophies.

Ravening Wolf Daoist Court was the faction behind Xun Huo.

In truth, the names of the three spacetime forbidden zones in the Endless Ocean all corresponded to the names of the three great factions of the Epoch of Sumeru.

There was Qingyang Feng’s Blue Sparrow Daoist Court, Xun Huo’s Ravening Wolf Daoist Court, and the woman in white’s Flying Serpent Daoist Court.

Their defeat at the Sunset Perch Dao Assembly had left them all with bellies full of pent-up fury.

“Fellow Daoist Su, next time we meet, I most certainly won’t try diplomacy first…” murmured Qingyang Feng. His typically warm smile was nowhere to be found. Now, his gaze was utterly cold.

……

The Southern Flame Divine Continent.

A remote, sparsely populated little city.

So, he’s already returned to Sunset Perch Island… Lu Qingmei looked dazed.

Sunset Perch Island had been Yi Daoxuan’s home, but it had once been her home, too. It was there that she and Yi Daoxuan had become Dao Partners. They’d been inseparable, and during their time together, they made many memories.

At the time, she thought nothing of it.

But in the long years after Yi Daoxuan’s death, every time she thought back to her days on Sunset Perch Island, Lu Qingmei discovered that those were the most peaceful, leisurely days of her life.

Unfortunately… She could never go back.

Lu Qingmei’s gaze was bleak. She sighed to herself.

Hm?

Suddenly, she froze, then pulled a talisman out of her sleeves, as quickly as if she’d been struck by lightning.
