Chapter 2369 - Riding a Boat Through the Mist and Rain
Chapter 2369 – Riding a Boat Through the Mist and Rain
Su Yi put away the Blood-Drinking Demon Armor without a word.
His first incarnation’s heart devil sought a Dao of balance. He believed that benefits came at a cost, and that gains always came with a loss.
Deep within his heart, Su Yi acknowledged this Dao. However… that didn’t mean he liked it.
In the heart devil’s eyes, even favors and feelings were like bargaining chips.
That was why the heart devil longed for Su Yi to beg him for help. He wanted Su Yi to owe him an ever-increasing list of favors, to acknowledge his invincibility, and to grow dependent on him.
But the way Su Yi saw it, feelings were priceless. You couldn’t possibly measure them in terms of simple pros and cons!
Had Yan Chizhen thought that every friendship had its price, he would never have risked death to avenge Yi Daoxuan!
Friendship, promises, duty, feeltings… All of them were intertwined with the deepest recesses of the human heart. You couldn’t think of them simply in terms of losses and benefits!
“If you like this sort of cooperation, you’re welcome to suggest them again in the future. I’ll think it over,” Su Yi said casually.
He put it politely, but in truth, his meaning was simple: “We can work together, but you have to ask me first!”
The heart devil fell silent, then laughed. “If you like it, why not?”
Su Yi said nothing. He just put away the sword sheath.
Meanwhile, the River Child walked up and returned the Epoch Spark. He looked deeply reluctant to part with it. With the Epoch Spark, he had no fear of divine punishment. How could he not be tempted?
But he knew that this treasure didn’t belong to him!
Next, Su Yi led the River Child back to Sunset Perch Island.
……
The curtains had fallen on the battle at Sunset Perch Island. From Su Yi’s perspective, the battle wasn’t overly shocking, and it came with no major waves.
Ultimately, each of his enemies had their own disparate ulterior motives. The five great factions of the Endless Ocean had joined forces, but none were willing to get directly involved. They just wanted to sit back and reap the benefits in the end.
The three spacetime forbidden zones saw through them, but they figured that they could rely on the Deep Blue Seastone’s power to do as they pleased.
They’d undoubtedly miscalculated. When you placed all your hopes on an external object, it meant abject defeat the moment you ran into someone capable of countering it.
This was obvious from Qingyang Feng and the others’ misfortune.
Of course, the information Spirit Vessel Yao Court had provided had come in handy. It had let Su Yi gauge the situation before the battle began.
The light of the heavens was bright and clear. The waves were dotted with sunlight, like dazzling flecks of gold.
Su Yi might have thought nothing of the battle’s end, but the distant onlookers were deeply astonished.
They didn’t know the details, but how could they fail to realize that Su Yi had won?
Five peak factions had worked together to place this trap, as well as terrifying existences from three spacetime forbidden zones, but all of them had lost!
One of those terrifying experts of another spacetime had even met his end on the battlefield!
Su Yi had once again drawn on an unbelievable power and proved his strength.
When the distant onlookers saw him return to Sunset Perch Island, their hearts filled with indescribable awe.
That very day, word of the battle at Sunset Perch Island spread, sweeping across the Endless Ocean like a hurricane and causing a widespread commotion.
Su Yi, the reincarnation of the Master of Sunset Perch Island, had won a complete victory and returned with force and momentum!
Spirit Vessel Yao Court.
When Sect Leader Zhang Wushan heard the news, he was intensely unwilling to accept it. That guy… seriously didn’t die?
“We were defeated again. Even the experts of the three spacetime forbidden zones were unable to defeat him,” Ancestor Hunshan said gravely.
Su Yi had only recently taken their Endless Lightning Golden Bamboo, Chaos Lightning Soil, and Sea-Stabilizing Pearl.
They’d thought that if Su Yi lost, they might well be able to sweep in and reclaim their sect-protecting treasures.
But now, the outcome of the battle had extinguished all such hopes!
“Seniors, if anything, we ought to celebrate!” When Luo Yunxiu saw how unsightly the sect higher-ups’ expressions were, he couldn’t help but say, “At the very least… we avoided catastrophe. If I’m not mistaken, Divine Billows Palace is really going to suffer this time!”
His words were grating to the ears. We suffered such a heavy blow, and you think we ought to celebrate?
But Luo Yunxiu’s last sentence made the higher-ups’ hearts shake. He’s right. They’re the ones who initiated this whole setup. How could Su Yi possibly let them off lightly?
……
Divine Billows Palace.
Bang!!!
Sect Leader Mo Xuchou slammed his teacup to the ground, his face ashen. “What spacetime forbidden zones? What three great factions of the Epoch of Sumeru? They’re great in name only!”
The other higher-ups’ expressions were dark. They’d never even considered the idea that the experts of the three spacetime forbidden zones would suffer such a crushing defeat!
“Sect Leader, this is no time for anger,” someone said gravely. “If everything is as I suspect, Su Yi is sure to seek retribution.”
The crowd’s eyelids twitched. They were the ones who’d initiated the Sunset Perch Dao Assembly, as well as the ones who’d joined forces with the three spacetime forbidden zones.
Now, Su Yi had won a complete victory. How could he possibly let them off lightly?
Mo Xuchou took a deep breath and suppressed his fury. “No need to panic. I’ve long since made arrangements for the event of such a disaster.”
The crowd’s spirits soared. “What do you mean, sect leader?”
“First, we still have a hostage!” said Mo Xuchou.
“Second, the founder said that we could seek refuge in the Kongtong Hidden Realm in the event of disaster!”
The crowd was at a loss for words. These aren’t countermeasures. They’re escape measures!
“But Su Yi has just one subordinate. What need is there to fear him?” someone asked in a rage. “If the whole sect hides like a turtle in its shell for fear of retribution, how will the world see us going forward? How will we maintain our position in the Endless Ocean?”
“That’s right. This is far from a worst-case scenario. Besides, we’ve got countless killing formations placed throughout the sect. I refuse to believe that Su Yi has the guts to attack us!” someone said gravely.
Many others chimed in their agreement.
If a battle truly broke out, given Divine Billows Palace’s foundations, there’d be nothing for them to fear!
Mo Xuchou fell briefly silent, then said, “The founder decreed that prior to the Dark Days of Legend, we should do our utmost to maintain our strength. Better to hide and endure than to act recklessly.”
The others were stunned, then silent.
“It’s just as you said. Su Yi is powerful indeed, but not strong enough to threaten the survival of the sect as a whole,” said Mo Xuchou. “However, if he seeks retribution, I’m afraid we’ll pay a heavy price. In that case, why not simply take a step back and focus on keeping our forces intact?”
The crowd’s expressions shifted. If they were honest with themselves, who among them wasn’t afraid of Su Yi?
After all, how many Master Gods had died by his hands in just the few short years since his return to the God Domain?
And how many gods beneath that level had died because of him?
As mighty as the top factions of the God Domain were, hadn’t they suffered a massive loss at Skybright Mountain, too?
“It’s settled, then,” said Mo Xuchou. “Our first step is to return the hostage of our own accord. Su Yi has never feared threats, so keeping the hostage will be worse than useless; it’ll only provoke him.”
“…” No matter how the crowd looked at it, that sounded pathetic!
But although they didn’t know it, Mo Xuchou had seen Su Yi’s message. In it, Su Yi said that if anything happened to the hostage, he’d kill everyone in Divine Billows Palace, down to the dogs and chickens!
The severity of the threat was such that Mo Xuchou dared not disregard it.
“Grand Elder, in a bit, lead everyone to the forbidden zone on the back mountain. Ask the ancestors in seclusion to open the Kongtong Hidden Realm. Lead everyone in the sect inside before the day is through!” commanded Mo Xuchou.
“Sect Leader, the situation is not yet so dire. Why not wait to see how things develop first?” the grand elder couldn’t help but ask.
The mere thought of retreating and turtling up without even trying to fight was infuriating and frustrating.
“Those are orders!” Mo Xuchou said darkly. “If we wait until the fire reaches our eyebrows before taking action, it’ll be too late!”
The grand elder sighed, but this time, as unwilling as he was, he left to carry out his orders.
Su Yi was just one person, but he’d scared a peak faction like them into hiding. Who knew how many people would laugh at them if word got out?
“Just twenty or so years remain until the Dark Days of Legend. They’ll pass in a flash,” said Mo Xuchou. “We cannot afford any mishaps at this juncture. Go on! Get started, all of you!”
The elders rose and were just about to begin preparations when an urgent voice cried out from beyond the hall, “Sect Leader, this is bad! Su Yi has appeared at our gates, and he says he’s going to flatten the entire sect!”
It was just one sentence, but it swept through the hall like a cold chill.
The gathered higher-ups were startled. All of them stiffened. Su Yi… Sure got here quickly!
Everyone here was an experienced expert who’d overcome many a storm, but they still felt a powerful sense of impending crisis.
“Grand Elder, start immediately. Hurry!” roared Mo Xuchou.
“Everyone else, come with me to meet Su Yi at the gates!”
……
Divine Billows Palace’s territory was known as the Misty Rain Divine Mountains. They were a famous blessed ground floating on the Endless Ocean.
A gentle rain fell over the mountains year round, and they were perpetually shrouded in mist, hence the name.
The rain was gentle, and the shore was lapped by waves. The perpetual mists were like a veil obscuring the mountainsides.
A little flat boat appeared in the distant ocean. Su Yi stood on board, hands behind his back. The River Child stood beside him, gripping the Umbrella of Tribulations.
“Your Excellency, why not lend me the Epoch Spark? With it, I can kill them all by myself. I’ll slaughter them until the ground runs red with rivers of blood!” the River Child said eagerly.
He obviously loved the Epoch Spark so much that he couldn’t help himself.
Su Yi was briefly stunned, but he quickly realized why. The Epoch Spark was the seed of a new epoch civilization. As it developed, it would grow into a complete world.
The River Child was a spirit of the natural order, an entity born of the present epoch.
There was no doubt about it. To the River Child, the Epoch Spark was like his nest, the birthplace of the myriad Daos of the natural order!
“Wait a little longer,” said Su Yi. “The little monkey’s life is far more precious than the lives of Divine Billows Palace.”
The River Child nodded.
Meanwhile, there was a disturbance on the distant Misty Rain Divine Mountains. All manner of formations activated, and divine radiance shot into the firmament.
The frantic ringing of a bell rose and fell in waves, resounding throughout heaven and earth.
“Your Excellency, they know we’re here!” The River Child rubbed his hands together in anticipation. The depths of his pitch-black eyes shone with ferocity, murderous intent, and bloodlust.
Immediately afterward, the formation rumbled at the sect gates, and a grand procession came into view.
The leader was none other than Sect Leader Mo Xuchou!
