First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2249 - A Little Girl

Chapter 2249 – A Little Girl

When Master God Yun He and the others fled, they were one step too slow. The old man who refused to die seized the opportunity to suppress and kill another already injured Nine-Tribulation Master God.

It seemed he wasn’t satisfied yet, either. He was just about to give chase when Su Yi stopped him.

“Be on guard against the old-timers still lying in wait,” said Su Yi.

The old man who refused to die instantly understood. He refrained from giving chase and instead gazed into the distance.

The people watching in secret might have been able to hide from everyone else, but they couldn’t hide from him.

When his murderous gaze swept over them, the hidden old-timers looked stricken. All of them instantly gave up all thoughts of swooping in and profiting from another’s conflict.

By now, Di E was the only one left fighting.

He was covered in wounds, and his robes were drenched in blood. Even his long hair was slick with blood. It was a startling sight.

Still, there was no getting around it: to him, those wounds weren’t at all serious.

Ultimately, Lin Jinghong was relying on external power, not her own strength. She could pressure and pummel Di E, but that was the extent of it.

This only made Di E’s terrifying strength all the more obvious.

In the God Domain, as an expert who’d taken half a step onto the River of Destiny, it didn’t matter if Lin Jinghong had treasures beyond the limits of her cultivation base. She still couldn’t kill Di E.

This was a clear display of the disparity between their cultivation bases!

Trump cards could indeed let you cross the barriers between realms of cultivation to kill enemies of superior strength.

But when the disparity was too enormous, there was no way to unleash your hidden cards’ full power. You were thus naturally helpless against opponents of significantly superior cultivations.

“How about we attack together?” The old man who wouldn’t die looked at Su Yi.

“We can’t possibly keep him here.” Su Yi shook his head.

They’d had the perfect opportunity to kill Di E, but Di E sensed it and dodged. Now, no matter how many hidden weapons they revealed or how many forces they rallied, there was no way they could stop Di E from leaving.

“Miss Lin, no need to tangle with him any longer,” said Su Yi. “There’s no way he’ll use his full strength, because if he does, he won’t be able to bear the consequences!”

Di E had taken half a step onto the River of Destiny. If he used his full strength, he was sure to invite his next tribulation!

If he overcame it, he’d break free of the confines of the Undying Realm and become Eternal.

But if he failed, he’d die beyond a shadow of a doubt.

This had been Di E’s situation even when Yi Daoxuan was still alive. Yi Daoxuan had known it, too.

Countless years had passed since then, but Di E was still stuck, one foot in the Undying Realm, the other on the River of Destiny. This was unquestionable proof that he didn’t dare to break through!

His preparations were inadequate, or his foundations in the Grand Dao were flawed, or perhaps, he’d yet to find an opportune moment to break through!

No matter his reasoning, Di E ultimately didn’t dare attempt a breakthrough. Thus, he didn’t dare to reveal his full strength, either!

“That’s fine. Even if I can’t kill him, I want to at least beat him up!” Lin Jinghong said casually. “He thinks that having taken half a step onto the River of Destiny gives him the right to be arrogant. If we let him become a true Eternal, won’t he become even more brazen?

“…”

It was obvious to everyone that Lin Jinghong was just venting her frustrations!

Di E frowned even, and, still locked in fierce combat with Lin Jinghong, he asked, “Don’t tell me one of your ancestors was an Eternal Dao Lord?”

“Don’t ask me about my elders or my background. I’m just a solitary wanderer in pursuit of the Grand Dao. I’m not dependent on anyone!” Lin Jinghong said with seething murderous intent.

Her words were as tyrannical as could be, but the onlookers’ expressions were a bit strange. If you’re not dependent on anyone, where did all those treasures of yours come from?

But no one dared say anything. In their eyes, Lin Jinghong was even more dangerous and terrifying than Di E! Who’d dare to say anything?

“The trend is no longer in his favor, and the outcome has been determined. Why hasn’t Di E fled yet? Don’t tell me he’s a masochist?” Divine Corpse Blood Robe murmured in confusion.

The old man who refused to die sighed, a complicated look on his face. “You’re wrong. Di E is doing this to buy the others time to escape. He’s preventing a woman as dangerous as Miss Lin from hunting down his allies.”

Divine Corpse Blood Robe was stunned.

Su Yi nodded too. “In this regard, at least, he’s quite courageous.”

Yi Daoxuan remembered Di E as an extraordinarily dangerous and terrifying enemy, but there was no denying his courage.

Di E typically hid himself behind the scenes, seldom appearing in public.

But whenever he did get involved, no matter the danger, he’d do everything in his power to help his allies escape, no matter the cost. He was always the last to retreat.

He could have been the first to flee this time, but he did no such thing. On the contrary, even after the others fled, he stayed behind to keep Lin Jinghong in check, even though it meant taking a pummeling.

The reason was simple. He needed to buy time for the others to escape. He refused to let Lin Jinghong hunt them all down!

This was Di E’s courage and sense of responsibility. It was for this reason that the Dipankara Buddha of the Western Paradise Spirit Mountains, Master God Yun He of the Three Purities Daoist Court, and other Master Gods of top orthodoxies were willing to cooperate with him.

Were he anyone else, there was no way the Nine-Tribulation Master Gods would have been so cooperative.

Even though Su Yi was Di E’s enemy, he couldn’t help but admire this aspect of Di E’s personality.

This was the man who’d arranged the deaths of both Yi Daoxuan and Li Fuyou. How could he possibly be someone ordinary?

But no matter how much Su Yi admired Di E, given the opportunity, he’d destroy him without the slightest hesitation. He was just too dangerous!

“Fellow Daoist, the old-timers watching in secret are leaving!” transmitted the old man who refused to die. “It seems they’ve realized that Di E’s defeat is certain, and they’ve given up their plans to loot a burning house.”

Su Yi subtly inclined his head.

Those who got directly involved in this chess match were all known entities. A little caution was enough to handle them.

The truly dangerous ones were those who remained hidden.

Some of them were from spacetime forbidden zones. They were unfamiliar faces of mysterious origins. Some were possibly even more dangerous than Di E.

It was for this reason that Su Yi had decisively dissuaded Divine Priestess Celestial Rains and the Heaven-Swallowing Toad from chasing their enemies.

The threat of those hidden in the shadows had yet to be resolved. That meant that things weren’t really over yet!

Di E stood beneath the dome of heaven, battered, bloodied, and utterly wretched.

But he still held on.

The sight made the onlookers’ hearts quiver. They were increasingly astonished, and increasingly aware of how terrifying he was.

They couldn’t even imagine how terrifyingly strong Di E would be if they pushed him so hard that he revealed his true strength!

“Di E, it’s time to leave!” A hoarse voice suddenly resounded throughout heaven and earth.

Whoosh!

Su Yi, the old man who refused to die, Divine Priestess Celestial Rains, and the others instantly looked over.

There, beneath the distant dome of heaven, colorful, resplendent light surged forth and manifested a petite figure.

When they saw her clearly, the crowd’s eyes widened.

She looked like a girl of just eight or nine years old, youthful and pure. She was dressed in a silver feather coat, with a childlike air of innocence about her.

But when they really looked into her eyes, they saw that her ink-black pupils were like gateways to the pits of hell. They surged with heart-palpitating visions of darkness.

Even old-timers like the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor felt their hearts palpitate beneath the weight of her gaze. Their whole bodies went taut!

Dangerous!

The little girl’s whole body emanated an unearthly, mysterious aura. She looked innocent and harmless, but in truth, she was as dangerous as could be!

When the little girl looked over, the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor sensed a powerful impending threat. Irrepressible murderous intent arose in the depths of his heart; he longed for nothing more than to rip her to pieces!

This was a purely instinctual reaction.

When Su Yi gazed into those eyes like dark portals, he too felt driven to violence.

He instantly calmed himself down and set those thoughts aside.

Moments later, Su Yi was unwittingly stunned. All she’d done was look at him, yet she’d practically ignited his murderous intent. She looks like a little girl, but just who is she really? Why haven’t I heard of her?

“I’ll come looking for you later,” said the little girl. Her voice was hoarse, as if she hadn’t spoken in a long, long time.

With that, she turned, blurred into a beam of colorful light, and vanished without a trace.

Practically simultaneously, Di E extracted himself from his fierce battle with Lin Jinghong and retreated.

“Watch yourself, Su Yi!” Di E took one last deep, hard look at Su Yi before blurring into a beam of dark light and vanishing.

Lin Jinghong tried her utmost to stop him, but she couldn’t hold him back. This left her deeply displeased.

She grumbled, “My cultivation base is too low. It’s seriously infuriating!”

Su Yi walked over to her. “You sent Di E packing. Isn’t that enough for you?”

Lin Jinghong sighed. “It’s just a pity that I couldn’t force him to reveal his true cultivation base. I can guarantee that the Tribulation of Destiny would have eradicated him if he had!”

“He’s my enemy,” laughed Su Yi. “I’ll naturally kill him with my own two hands one day.”

He suddenly turned, then gazed into the distant darkness. “Have you stayed behind to oppose me?”

His voice was like the roaring of a dragon booming throughout the ten directions.

Some of the hidden old-timers had yet to leave. When they heard Su Yi call them out, many of them instantly turned to leave.

“Fellow Daoist, your abilities are far-reaching, and your foresight is far beyond other people. It’s truly extraordinary!”

A tall, stalwart man with a spear on his back stepped forth. “This humble one is from Divine Nebula Village. I came here hoping to cooperate with you.”

Divine Nebula Village!

The crowd exchanged glances. All of them were confused, as the name was entirely unfamiliar.

There was no doubt about it. That was a faction not of this era! In other words, the tall, stalwart man was from a spacetime forbidden zone!

“Cooperate?” Su Yi’s eyebrows rose.

“That’s right. In just a few years, the Dark Days of Legend will be upon us. Then, we of Divine Nebula Village will enter this world!” the tall, stalwart man said with a laugh. “Fellow Daoist, I know you have numerous enemies, but if we work together…”

“Scram!” interrupted Lin Jinghong. “One more word, and I’ll kill you!”

The tall, stalwart man’s smile froze in place, and his expression gradually darkened.

Clang!

Lin Jinghong raised her spear as if about to attack.

The man instantly looked stricken. He turned and dashed off, and within moments, he’d vanished without a trace.

When the onlookers saw this, they couldn’t help but laugh.
