Chapter 812: Resolution
“She brought this upon herself. You don’t need to feel sad.”
A deep and gentle voice sounded from ahead. Xue Chuqing, her eyes brimming with tears, looked up at Xu Luo as he walked over. She stood there, her lips pursed, looking as pitiful and delicate as a little girl who had suffered a great grievance.
Xu Luo approached and gently pulled Xue Chuqing into his arms. “It’s all over now!”
“Mm!” Xue Chuqing nodded. The gloom in her heart was melting away bit by bit. Just like Bingxue under the sunlight.
“Are you leaving?” Xue Chuqing asked softly, resting against Xu Luo’s warm chest and pillowed on his broad shoulder.
“Do you want to come with me?” Xu Luo asked.
For a fleeting moment, Xue Chuqing genuinely wanted to nod and agree on the spot. No matter how strong she was, she was still a woman. Who wouldn’t want to find a warm, safe harbor? However, her rationality and the ideals buried deep in her heart ultimately gained the upper hand. She lifted her head, her eyes fixed on Xu Luo, and gave a slight shake of her head. “I want to stay! When my master left the Divine Maiden Tower to me, she didn’t intend for it to decline.”
PHEW!
Hearing this answer, Xu Luo felt a mix of disappointment and joy. He planted a gentle kiss on Xue Chuqing’s smooth, delicate cheek and said, “Since this is your decision, I will support you!”
With that, Xu Luo took out the Purple Crystal Card and placed it into Xue Chuqing’s hand.
Xue Chuqing’s breathing… quickened slightly. She wasn’t a woman who had never seen money, but she had truly never seen such a massive fortune. Let alone imagine that one day, she would control such a terrifyingly huge sum! Especially since… this wealth was personally gifted to her by her man.
“The feeling of being pampered… is really quite nice!” A radiant smile blossomed on Xue Chuqing’s face.
She didn’t refuse, nor did she need to! She wasn’t a petty woman and wouldn’t act hypocritically. She knew he was even less so! There was no need for such pretenses between them.
“There shouldn’t be any more problems with Gu Zongren. I will take him away.”
“As for Yue…” Xu Luo pondered for a moment.
Xue Chuqing said, “Let them all stay. If the Divine Maiden Tower wants to develop, having Gu Zongren involved will make things much smoother.”
“You’re not worried?” Xu Luo asked.
“Worried about what?” Xue Chuqing looked at Xu Luo in confusion. “Didn’t you say there wasn’t a problem anymore?”
Xu Luo burst into laughter. He reached out, gently pinched Xue Chuqing’s stunningly beautiful face, and said, “You trust me that much?”
“Of course!” Xue Chuqing replied without a shred of hesitation.
When she had been at her most desperate, her man had appeared. Though, admittedly, Xue Chuqing had felt even more desperate at that exact moment. But what happened afterward made her feel as if she were in a dream. Everything could only be described as miraculous! This man seemed omnipotent. He could conjure up a super invincible beautiful girl, fake his own death to deceive the Bounty Guild and the Jin Family, and directly suppress a top-tier Celestial Venerable like Gu Zongren… He had accomplished all these impossible things. Why shouldn’t she trust him?
Lan hadn’t appeared since. She still needed time to recover. After settling the matter with Gu Zongren, Lan had gone straight back to the Bronze Divine Hall World. Therefore, that night, Xu Luo and Xue Chuqing were passionately intertwined, making love as if there were no tomorrow. They both knew that once they parted this time, there was no telling when they would see each other again.
“My name is Xu Luo.”
“Mm.”
“Not Luo Tian.”
“Mm.”
“You aren’t curious? You don’t blame me for not telling you earlier?”
“I’m not curious, and I don’t blame you. If you didn’t say it, you naturally had your reasons. Now that you want to, haven’t you told me?”
“…”
Early the next morning, Xu Luo woke up. The woman beside him was still sleeping soundly. But in reality, Xu Luo knew she was awake, and she knew that he knew she was awake. Yet, by an unspoken mutual agreement, both pretended that the other didn’t know.
“Qing’Er, I’m leaving. Take good care of yourself! If you really don’t want to hold on anymore, come find me at Celestial Brilliance!” Xu Luo said softly. He turned around and walked out the door. Xue Chuqing forced herself not to cry out, not to impulsively grab hold of him… and tell him that she actually really wanted to go with him!
Xu Luo walked outside and, unsurprisingly, saw Gu Zongren and his daughter. Not far away stood Hua he xue. This pair of a handsome man and a beautiful woman now looked like wilted eggplants bitten by frost, completely deflated.
Originally, everything had been completely under their control. But in the blink of an eye, the tides had changed. The shift was so dizzyingly fast that before their minds could even process it, the entire situation had completely flipped. When Yue had mentioned it to them, they had been entirely incapable of believing it was true. It wasn’t until Gu Zongren personally verified it that Hua he xue finally realized just what kind of terrifying existence they had provoked. Thus, no matter how reluctant they were in their hearts, they had no choice but to stand guard outside Xue Chuqing’s door early in the morning, looking like two helpless punching bags.
Gu Zongren and his daughter seemed to have fully communicated as well. Although Yue still looked a bit awkward, her attitude was countless times better than her atrocious behavior from yesterday. As for Xu Luo, he hadn’t worried for a second that Gu Zongren would do anything drastic.
He was the direct heir of the Ancient Celestial Valley! Since childhood, he had been high and mighty, the center of everyone’s attention! He was a top-tier Celestial Venerable! It could be said that Gu Zongren was a man who had grown up surrounded by countless halos, riding them all the way to where he stood today.
Therefore, he couldn’t afford to lose! His dignity and his pride would never allow him to truly fall. They would never allow his reputation to suffer the slightest taint! Thus, he could compromise in front of Xu Luo and Lan, but he would absolutely never admit defeat in front of the whole world! Because of this, Xu Luo knew perfectly well that as long as Gu Zongren couldn’t undo the restrictive seals in his body, he would never put up any pointless resistance!
As for Yue… She was nothing more than a spoiled, immature little girl. Xu Luo didn’t even put her in his eyes.
“Young Master!” When Gu Zongren saw Xu Luo, a complex glint flashed through his eyes, though he quickly calmed down.
Xu Luo nodded, then cast his gaze toward Yue standing to the side.
Yue bit her lip forcefully, her expression somewhat ugly. All this time, she had viewed Xu Luo as the enemy who murdered her husband—even though she and Wind had no such relationship, having never even held hands. But just as Hua and Xue were a couple, she had always felt that she and Wind… were a match made in heaven! Until one day, Wind died. Her heart emptied out as well, and she harbored a deep, absolute hatred for the person who had killed Wind. In her heart, whoever killed Wind, she would kill them! And all along, this was exactly what she had done. She had put up a bounty and exhausted every possible method, swearing to kill that person. But now, that very person had become her father’s master, possessing a level of strength so formidable that it left her in despair!
Last night, an unprecedentedly long conversation between father and daughter finally made Yue realize that no matter how powerful a figure was, there were times when they had to bow to reality!
“You could choose the other path. Death… is nothing much, but it depends on whether your death holds any value.
“Once you die and enough time passes, no one will remember you anymore.
“No one will remember what you looked like!
“Even if they occasionally think of you, they’ll just sigh, and the moment they turn their heads, you’ll be forgotten.”
Yue clearly remembered her father looking at her earnestly as he asked, “Yue, are you willing to become someone like that?”
At the time, she had indignantly retorted, “Why couldn’t he be the one to die?”
“At least… it won’t be him for now!” Gu Zongren had narrowed his eyes, an unfathomable glint flashing within them, and said softly, “In the future… there might be a chance!”
Because of this, Yue had awkwardly followed her father over. She could, of course, have chosen to just walk away and hide in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity to take revenge. But she couldn’t truly sever the ties of her bloodline. She could afford not to respect Gu Zongren, but she couldn’t allow her father to be looked down upon by others. Not to mention, what Gu Zongren was facing right now wasn’t a matter of dignity, but a matter of his life!
As for Hua he xue, they were purely terrified. The title of the Four Great Assassins resounded loudly throughout all of Xi Hezhou, but in reality, they hadn’t actually committed many sensational crimes. If brought to the table to be scrutinized, many prominent figures of high status wouldn’t even put them in their eyes. Upon learning that even a truly grand figure like Gu Zongren, who commanded the vast power of the Divine Maiden Tower, had submitted at that young man’s feet, Hua he xue lost even the thought of fleeing. Fortunately, aside from backing Yue with some funds, they hadn’t actually offended that terrifying youth. Since the other party hadn’t killed Gu Zongren, it meant he was a reasonable person. In that case, it would be better to just admit their mistake outright so they wouldn’t have to live in fear anymore.
“What’s in the past is written off.”
Xu Luo didn’t disappoint them. The moment he spoke, the heavy boulders in their hearts dropped.
“From today onward, you… do your best to assist Xue Chuqing. Rest assured, I won’t make things difficult for you.” Saying this, Xu Luo glanced at Gu Zongren. “Come with me. I have something to say to you.”
Hua he xue looked as if they had just received a grand pardon, gazing at Xu Luo with faces full of gratitude. Human standards for happiness were truly bizarre. Just a day prior, if Xu Luo had said those exact same words to them, they probably would have spat in his face and hacked him into eight pieces. But at this very moment, they felt an immense sense of happiness!
Yue stood there somewhat despondently. From start to finish, that man—the man she treated as the enemy who murdered her husband—hadn’t said a single word to her! Clearly… he hadn’t taken her seriously at all! For some unknown reason, Yue felt a spark of anger. She herself found it a bit baffling. Not being noticed should have been an excellent thing for an assassin. Yue knitted her delicate brows and wondered, “But why? Why do I feel so angry that he’s ignoring me?”
Xu Luo and Gu Zongren arrived at an isolated area. Then, the two looked at each other.
“The younger generation is truly to be feared!”
After a long time, Gu Zongren finally sighed and uttered this phrase.
“Come on, Lao Gu. You’re definitely thinking in your heart: You little punk, strutting around with borrowed Hu Wei. The day I unlock this seal will be the day you die!” Xu Luo chuckled dismissively, then added, “It doesn’t actually matter to me if you think that way. You can try as hard as you like.”
With that, Xu Luo’s expression turned serious as he looked at Gu Zongren. “But until the day you actually break it, I expect you to do what you’re supposed to do! I won’t lightly interfere with your affairs, but if I find out… that you’re pulling any little tricks in the dark… don’t blame me for turning ruthless.”
