Chapter 486: Chapter 485: What-If: Did the Big Shot Vie for Favor Today? 54

Mu Tangfeng thought about his own handsome face. No matter how he sliced it, he figured he should have turned into a very good-looking cat—at least better-looking than Onyx.

Although others thought Onyx was a bit ugly, Mu Tangfeng, as the owner who had adopted him, had long since been seeing him through rose-tinted glasses.

But when he finally managed to find a mirror and take a look, he discovered that he had actually become a disabled cat.

He sat down in disbelief, staring intently into the mirror to count his legs.

’Three. There are really only three...’

’I’m not even as good as Onyx!’

’Onyx is at least a whole and adorable kitty, but I’m not even whole!’

Mu Tangfeng felt his cat life darken in an instant. ’Why? As a human, I had just injured my leg, and now as a cat, I’m missing a leg?’

’Day in and day out, can’t my legs catch a break?’

Looking utterly dejected, Mu Tangfeng couldn’t even bear to look at his reflection. He slunk to the side and started to wonder how to get back into his own body.

The reason he accepted the fact that he’d become a cat so quickly was all thanks to Onyx.

He and Jiang Xia had researched a lot about Cat Demons, even delving into novels about humans turning into cats. So when it actually happened to him, what vexed Mu Tangfeng the most wasn’t the transformation itself, but the fact that he had become a disabled cat.

’What can I even do with just three legs?’

’No wonder it felt so weird to walk. I didn’t even notice at first since I’d just hurt my leg anyway.’

In the novels, there were usually two ways for a human to regain their original form: either cultivate power in the cat’s body or die to return to their own.

’Cultivation? That’s completely impossible. And death... even more so. I’m not about to try such a stupid method. Besides, I’m afraid of pain.’

After thinking for a long time, Mu Tangfeng was still out of ideas. Then, he caught the scent of Shi Lan cooking and found himself looking over involuntarily.

First thing in the morning, Shi Lan had filled Ping’an’s bowl with kibble. He had already eaten his fill and even had a treat stick later.

To be honest, Mu Tangfeng wasn’t hungry. He was just captivated by the aroma of food wafting through the room.

Shi Lan brought out a freshly made flaky pancake wrap and set it on the coffee table, then went back to the kitchen to pour a glass of corn juice.

The rich, sweet scent of the steaming corn juice aggressively assaulted his nostrils. Mu Tangfeng couldn’t resist jumping onto the sofa and staring intently at the food on the table.

He knew what corn juice was, but he’d never had a flaky pancake wrap.

As a young master, he had never eaten "junk food" from a street stall. The family chef could make both Chinese and Western cuisine but drew the line at snacks.

Ping’an usually kept Shi Lan company while she ate breakfast, so she didn’t think anything of it. She turned on the TV, picked up her pancake wrap, and started eating.

She’d loaded it with two eggs, bacon, ham, chicken strips, and lettuce. It was packed with ingredients, and one bite was enough to make her swoon from the deliciousness.

"Mmm, so good~"

Her eyes curved into crescents of satisfaction. Mu Tangfeng stared at her, waiting for her to offer him a bite.

’This woman seems to love her cat so much. I refuse to believe she’d be heartless enough to ignore me.’

And yet, by the time Shi Lan had finished the last of her corn juice, Mu Tangfeng still hadn’t gotten a single taste of the pancake wrap.

The young master started to sulk. ’I get it now,’ he thought. ’The cat who used to be in this body must have had a terrible life. It probably gave up all hope and left, making way for me to take over.’

’Not like me. When I used to eat, if Onyx so much as glanced at a dish, I’d immediately offer it a piece.’

’This won’t do. I can’t stay in a household like this. Even as a cat, I refuse to endure hardship.’

Mu Tangfeng decided to run away from home.

So, when Shi Lan tried to pick him up to go out, he fought her tooth and nail, struggling with all his might.

Shi Lan saw that he really didn’t want to go, so she gently stroked his head to soothe the apparently angry cat. "Okay, okay, if Ping’an doesn’t want to go out, Mommy won’t take you," she cooed. "You play nice at home. Mommy will only be out for two or three hours and then I’ll be back."

The cat’s ears twitched. Mu Tangfeng took note of her words. This meant he had a two-to-three-hour window to escape.

’The heavens are on my side!’

And so, after Shi Lan left, Mu Tangfeng tried everything he could think of to open the door.

The cat was small, but its soul belonged to a human. Mu Tangfeng used the shoe cabinet by the entrance, repeatedly jumping from the top of it. After several attempts, he finally managed to nudge the front door open, creating a small gap.

He pawed the door open the rest of the way and slipped out, only to discover that the next part of his escape was even more difficult.

Shi Lan lived in a building with private elevator access for each apartment. The call button was too high, and with nothing to stand on, there was no way Mu Tangfeng could reach it.

He tried the door to the fire escape stairs, but it was shut even tighter. With his current strength, he couldn’t budge it.

Just then, the elevator chimed with a DING.

Mu Tangfeng’s eyes lit up, thinking the heavens were on his side again, but then Shi Lan rushed out of the elevator, scooping him up with a worried look on her face.

"Ping’an, how did you get out?"

If the smart peephole on her door hadn’t been sending alerts to her phone, she would have never known Ping’an had gotten out.

These days, people in the building often took in stray cats they found. Shi Lan dreaded to think where she would even begin to look for Ping’an if he had really run away.

Assuming she hadn’t closed the door properly, Shi Lan held the cat tight, her heart still pounding with fear as she went back inside.

Mu Tangfeng’s escape had failed. Shi Lan was holding him a little too tightly, and the spot where his head was pressed was pillowy and soft. To his surprise, he found it so comfortable that he was reluctant to leave her embrace.

Curious about what he was leaning on, Mu Tangfeng couldn’t help but angle his head for a look.

The weather was hot, so Shi Lan was wearing a rose-pink midi dress. It was made of a crisp, suiting-like material that was quite form-fitting. The U-neck was relatively modest, but the way she was holding the cat caused the collar to gather, offering a faint glimpse of the curves beneath.

Mu Tangfeng’s face instantly flushed. Realizing what he was pressed against, he began to struggle frantically, desperate to get away.

He struggled with all his might. Shi Lan didn’t squeeze him, not wanting to restrain her cat too much. But worried he might fall again like before, she bent down to lower him closer to the floor before letting go.

As if his tail were on fire, Mu Tangfeng scrambled away, darting frantically around the room. When he noticed Shi Lan was still watching him, he grew flustered and angry, accidentally stumbling into the pet room. He dove headfirst into the cat bed and refused to come out.

’This woman is so shameless! How could she hold me like that?’

’And me... I saw... that part of her... up close.’

On the surface, Mu Tangfeng seemed like an ignorant playboy, but he was actually very conservative. He’d barely spoken to any girls, and the phrase he used most often was, "Get out of my way. I don’t like you."

So, really, he had never been this close to a girl before.

Hiding in the cat bed, Mu Tangfeng’s mind kept replaying the recent scene against his will. He felt so unsophisticated. He slapped himself a few times with his paw to finally force the image out of his head.

Shi Lan had never seen this quirky side of Ping’an’s personality. While he would sometimes get excited and dash around when she played with him, he was never normally like this.

Still, she didn’t dare risk upsetting Ping’an again. She decided to cancel her trip to the flower shop and stay home to keep an eye on her cat.
