Chapter 485: Chapter 484: IF Storyline: Did the Big Shot Vie for Favor Today? (53)

If he had broken his leg during military training, he would have been thrilled. It would have been a legitimate excuse to get out of it, but of course, it had to happen right after training ended.

Regardless, Mu Tangfeng had to go home to recover. Jiang Xia saw him off with envy, muttering, "Why couldn’t it have been me who broke a leg?"

Then he could go home and see Onyx every day. Even if he couldn’t pet the cat, just looking would be fine. And if Onyx came back, he’d be able to get a head start on winning its affection.

Jiang Xia looked regretful. Mu Tangfeng, his face sour, cursed at him, "Get lost."

On the day he went home, Mr. and Mrs. Mu came to pick up their son personally. Seeing his son’s miserable state, Mr. Mu couldn’t help but sigh.

Mu Tangfeng was already in a bad mood. He’d finally had a legitimate reason to teach the coach a lesson, only to end up taking a disgraceful tumble in front of everyone. He had completely lost face. Now, hearing his dad’s sigh, his heart filled with a mixture of simmering frustration and a faint sense of being wronged. His eyes stung a little, but he still put on a fierce act. "What are you sighing for? Are you that unhappy to see me?"

"What are you talking about?"

Mr. Mu looked utterly wronged. Mrs. Mu, knowing her son was in a bad mood, nudged her husband’s shoulder. "That’s enough. No one will think you’re mute if you don’t say anything."

Mr. Mu fell silent, speechless. Mrs. Mu, doting and attentive, offered her son the chicken soup their chef had prepared. "Feng’er, don’t mind him. Here, have some soup."

At her words, Mu Tangfeng finally felt a little better and started drinking the soup.

After returning home, his days of nursing his injured leg officially began.

With his leg injured, he couldn’t do much of anything. The cat at home wasn’t Onyx, the one he wanted, so he rarely bothered to hold it. With nothing else to do, he started playing video games every day, sometimes pulling all-nighters and sleeping during the day.

This day was no different. After being forcibly summoned by Mrs. Mu to eat breakfast, he went back to his room and collapsed into bed. Unexpectedly, a constant, chattering noise filled his ears.

Mu Tangfeng immediately started cursing, but all that entered his ears was a series of frantic, angry meows.

Shi Lan jumped in fright. She had just been on the phone with a flower shop and hadn’t expected Ping’an, who had been rubbing against her leg, to suddenly cry out.

She thought she might have accidentally stepped on it, but when she looked down in a panic and stepped back, she saw that wasn’t the case.

"Ping’an, Ping’an, it’s okay. Don’t be scared."

Shi Lan didn’t know what was wrong, but she immediately knelt down, scooped up the cat, and rocked it gently in her arms as if comforting a child.

’The maids are being way too loud today,’ Mu Tangfeng thought. ’And why does that voice sound so unfamiliar?’

’Probably a new one who doesn’t know the rules.’

He was about to start yelling when he opened his eyes and was met, completely off guard, by Shi Lan’s gentle and soothing gaze. Her eyes were smiling, and her voice was as soft as a spring breeze in March. "Oh, good little Ping’an. My Ping’an is the best."

People are always so patient with cats.

Shi Lan didn’t want to raise children, but she was more than willing to raise fluffy things.

Seeing Ping’an staring at her with a dazed look, as if utterly captivated, the smile on Shi Lan’s lips deepened. She bent down and planted a kiss on its forehead. "How can my Ping’an be so cute? Mommy loves you to death!"

Mu Tangfeng, who had been a bit stunned, belatedly realized what Shi Lan had just done. His face instantly flushed, and his entire body grew hot. ’What the hell? I’ve been violated by a woman!!!’

Furious, Mu Tangfeng began to struggle frantically. He angrily broke free from Shi Lan’s embrace, but due to his inexperience with being a cat, he took another disgraceful tumble when he landed—just as pathetic as when he’d fallen while playing ball.

His body grew even hotter, a mix of shyness, embarrassment, and rage churning within him. But as he stood up and noticed his own jet-black paws, he froze on the spot in utter astonishment.

In disbelief, he stretched out a hind paw again. The claws splayed out like a blooming flower, then retracted. Staring at his own pink paw pads, he quickly realized what kind of animal these paws belonged to.

’Onyx was just like this; I even used to play with its paws,’ he thought. ’What’s going on? How did I turn into a cat?’

In his shock, Mu Tangfeng’s anger was unknowingly redirected, and he was left playing with his own paws, utterly devoid of hope.

Meanwhile, Shi Lan was still wondering what was wrong with Ping’an, but then she looked down and saw the little cat sitting like a black-boned chicken drumstick, its hind paw lifted as it played with its own blooming claws.

She was instantly overwhelmed by cuteness and couldn’t wait to pull out her phone to take a picture.

She hadn’t turned the shutter sound off. When Mu Tangfeng heard the click, he got so angry his fur stood on end. His whiskers puffed out indignantly as he glared at her, letting out a string of curses that just came out as a series of ’MEOW MEOW MEOW’s, completely lacking in intimidation.

Shi Lan couldn’t help but laugh. She’d never seen Ping’an be so talkative. Unfortunately, she didn’t understand "cat," so she had no idea what Ping’an was saying. She could only go and get its favorite cat treat stick, holding it up to its mouth to coax it. "Ping’an, stop meowing, okay? Mommy’s ears are starting to ring."

Mu Tangfeng continued his tirade, and then the tip of the treat stick was shoved right into his mouth.

The eyes of the cat, which had been so fierce and puffy with anger just a moment ago, instantly cleared up. In disbelief, he licked it again.

’What is this stuff? How can it be so delicious?’

As someone who had always been a picky eater, the chefs at the Mu Family residence were paid high salaries and were under immense pressure. They had to constantly figure out what the young master liked to eat, adjusting dishes according to his appetite, mood, and even the weather. The family’s menu had to be frequently updated and improved to prevent the young master from getting bored.

The last batch of chefs, whom he’d grown tired of during his last year of high school, had already been replaced. Now, there was a new Michelin-starred master chef, whose cooking Mu Tangfeng found barely acceptable.

And yet, none of the gourmet feasts he had ever eaten in his life could compare to this plain-looking food in front of him...

Clinging to the belief that such a delicacy couldn’t possibly exist in this world, Mu Tangfeng tasted it again and again. Soon, the treat stick in Shi Lan’s hand was empty.

When she couldn’t squeeze any more out, she tossed the empty wrapper. Seeing that Ping’an had finally quieted down but was now staring intently at the trash can where she’d thrown the wrapper, she couldn’t help but laugh.

Indeed, there was nothing that couldn’t be solved with one of Ping’an’s favorite treat sticks.

But for the cat’s health, she usually only allowed it to eat two packs a day at most.

Shi Lan didn’t bother Ping’an any further. She had been busy discussing the details of her flower order all morning and hadn’t even had a chance to eat breakfast yet.

She went to the kitchen. Mu Tangfeng couldn’t stop himself from walking over to the trash can. ’I have to remember what this delicious thing was, so I can have the butler buy a bunch of it when I get home.’

He poked his head over the edge to look. The wrapper listed the flavor as ’Goat Milk Meat Paste,’ and the brand was an English name: Myfoodie.

Mu Tangfeng didn’t recognize the brand, but he secretly memorized it. Then, seeing that Shi Lan was ignoring him, he swaggered over to look in a mirror.

’Let’s see just what kind of cat I’ve become,’ he thought, ’to make this woman so fond of me.’

Mu Tangfeng had always considered himself infinitely charming. Whether in high school or at the university he’d just been accepted to, plenty of girls had confessed their feelings for him.

However, he had scorned them all. He didn’t want to be tied down by a woman; he didn’t want anything to interfere with his good life of coasting and freeloading.

He already had one mom at home; he had no desire to find another woman to boss him around.

’Being single is so much better.’
