Fated To Three, And I Broke Them All

Chapter 413-The Alpha King Wants Me Back

  • Next Chapter

Verity:

Ragnar was staring back at me while I took deep, heavy breaths.

I turned around to leave, but the minute I heard footsteps behind me, I quickly spun around again and pointed at both Jaguar and Theodore.

I needed to stop them. They were not the only ones coming after me.

Ragnar was trying to stop them at the same time.

"Follow me now, and I will reject you both in a heartbeat," I warned them, tears pricking at the corners of my eyes.

Anger rushed through my veins. The audacity of these people to act like they were the only ones who mattered.

I don’t know why, but at that moment, it made me lose my mind.

Theodore and Jaguar’s eyes seemed a little teary as I warned them with those harsh words.

Then I looked over at Ragnar, who was staring back at me, but this time, not angrily.

I didn’t even look at Gigi.

I could tell she wanted eye contact because she moved behind Ragnar, but I refused to give it to her.

She was not important. This was between mates and family. She was neither.

So I briskly walked away, feeling heat rush from my high-heeled sandals up through my ankles and into the rest of my body.

Once I started walking away and was a few minutes into the walk, I realized my heels were killing me.

I was not born for this luxurious lifestyle, this uptight way of living.

I took off my shoes and held them in one hand, continuing forward barefoot.

The weather suddenly got worse, and I did not want to be soaking wet when I went back home.

If Mrs. Baker saw me, she would come rushing over, asking why I had returned from my job so early, why I was wet, and everything else.

I just needed some time for myself.

So I moved into a small sheltered bus stop and sat on the bench.

Then I hunched over, placed my elbows on my thighs, and covered my face with my hands.

Soft sobs escaped my lips.

When I straightened my back at the sound of an approaching car, I paused.

The car stopped right in front of the bus stop just as the rain began.

"What do you want now?" I demanded, my fists clenching.

The car door opened, and Ragnar stepped out of the back seat before walking over to me.

His presence was so alarming that it always gave me a little ache.

I had no clue what he was thinking or what he had decided.

He stared at me while standing right in front of me.

Then he sidestepped, moved to the other side of the bench, and sat down.

I could almost feel the bench dent beneath his big ass.

"Why are you here?" I asked, quickly turning my face to the other side to wipe away my tears while my body rocked back and forth.

I couldn’t help the anxiety.

"There was a business trip Jaguar was supposed to go on. I guess he already sent you the files and prepared everything for it," Ragnar commented in a low, grumpy voice. "He’s not going anymore. I will."

"And you want me to stand there, wave my hand, and see you off?" I hissed, noticing how much my tone with him had changed over time.

In the beginning, I used to be very respectful toward him because he scared me so easily.

Now, even though he was still very scary, I had somehow learned to deal with it.

He groaned.

I watched him roll his eyes before he finally turned his head toward me.

"You will be accompanying me on this trip."

The moment he said that, I started to chuckle.

"So, say that again," I taunted sarcastically. "You just threatened to fire me, and I just told you I will..."

I was still rambling when he raised a finger, closed his eyes, and deliberately went, "Shh."

I immediately fell silent at his rudeness.

"Do you want this job back or not?"

When he put it that way, I slowly straightened my posture.

I would have just told him to shove his job and left.

But if I got kicked out of the Alpha King’s company, nobody was really going to give me a credible job.

But that wasn’t even it.

I could still earn. I knew myself.

The problem was that I had to be there.

And I wasn’t the one going to them and asking for my job back.

The Alpha King himself was sitting right beside me, offering it back to me.

"Fine. But if you threaten to fire me next time..." I muttered.

"Well, then don’t get under my table and do things you’re not supposed to do."

As he said it, our eyes met.

I don’t know why, but that comment, even though it clearly wasn’t intended that way, sounded so inappropriate.

Ragnar immediately looked away.

"Anyway, I’ll drop you home," he mumbled, getting up and fixing his coat.

"I can walk just fine," I hissed.

He turned to me and gestured toward the road, as if telling me to go ahead and show him how I planned to walk home.

I got so pissed off with his behavior. He always tried to prove the other person wrong.

That was the thing about Ragnar. He never cut anyone any slack.

I stared at the road outside, at the heavy rain, and then down at my bare feet before looking back at him.

He shrugged insolently.

I picked up my sandals and walked over to the car, opened the door, and got inside.

I almost wished I were soaking wet so I could ruin his seats, but, well, he survived that.

The minute I got into the car, I slid into the corner of the seat, just like I always did whenever I was in the car with him.

The car ride was filled with silence.

The only sounds were the hum of the engine, the occasional beep from the dashboard, and the pitter-patter of rain against the windshield.

Finally, we arrived at my community.

I was about to get out when something Ragnar said stopped my hand before it could reach the door.

"Every victim is the same, Verity. You’re no different from Gigi."

He paused, making the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

"I would like you not to tell anyone about my investigation."

That was all he said. He did not even mention Gigi again.

Without turning around, I simply nodded, making sure he could see that I agreed.

Why would I tell anyone?

I wanted him to finish this investigation and catch her lying ass because, at this point, even I suspected her.

I suspected her hardcore.
