Fated To Three, And I Broke Them All

Chapter 407-It’s The Battle Day

Verity:

"I was stunned when I heard you had come back."

Mrs. Baker had arrived early that morning to disturb my sleep.

The only mistake I made was stepping out to grab some fruit.

The moment I returned, she was waiting at my doorstep.

At that point, I could not even pretend she did not exist.

She was a very problematic woman.

Although I no longer had to worry about her finding out about Jaguar and me, or telling anyone, I still wished she would leave.

"Yeah, I had to come back. It’s my home," I replied, trying to hint that if she left, I could finally prepare breakfast for myself.

"Oh, is it true that Alpha King Ragnar is getting engaged to Gigi? I also heard you get to prepare the ceremony. You’re so lucky."

That woman was ridiculous. Of course, she probably assumed I would be happy because I was getting paid.

I had been paid well for the mate ball and the other events Lady Lucille had hired me for, but this was different.

"Preparing an engagement ceremony like this would interfere with my office schedule far more than hosting a mate ball or a birthday party." I excused myself.

"But wouldn’t it pay more?" she giggled.

"Yeah, but it’s getting in the way of my office schedule, so I excused myself," I lied.

Looking down, I reached for the groceries on the living room table and picked them up, hoping that if I headed into the kitchen, she might finally take the hint and leave.

But what she said next stopped me.

"Perhaps it’s because of your past with Gigi. I mean, she might not be comfortable trusting someone whose brother did something similar to what another cruel person recently did to her."

My hand froze in midair.

I snapped my head toward her and stared.

"Oh, the news about your past has reached the Omega community," she continued. "I told them it has nothing to do with Verity. Her brother and Verity are two different people, but you know how people are."

She gave a few small nods.

"Where did you hear that?" I asked, lowering my hand.

Now my attention was entirely on her.

Even if she wanted to leave, I was not going to let her go without answering me.

"Oh, my daughter told me. It was on some kind of anonymous social media post, you know? I guess after Gigi’s whole kidnapping case, people started digging into the lives of everyone around her. Then we heard that, years ago, your brother tried to do something similar to her. And that her brother had been bullying you and had attempted to force himself upon you many times as well."

Her tone shifted completely. The sympathy she had shown Gigi disappeared when she spoke about me.

"And I heard he had been torturing you since you were very young. He used to bully you?" she added, nodding again. "I mean, do you remember it correctly, or could it be a false memory?"

She knew damn well it was true.

She had seen Oliver’s video circulating online. What she had not seen was the victim clearly, because my face, body, and everything else had been blurred out.

"I mean, sometimes people join in on gossip like that just to lower the amount of hatred they’re getting because of their family members’ actions," she continued.

I kept staring at her.

"You know, I should leave now. By the way, my daughter is getting engaged. You should plan her engagement. We might not be able to pay you that much, but it could help take your mind off everything."

Every time she opened her mouth, her tone seemed to change.

One moment she sounded sympathetic, and the next, completely flat.

Then, with a click of her tongue, she left my house.

I immediately went online to find out who was spreading the news about me.

My heart skipped a beat when I searched my name.

There was, indeed, a post about me.

It claimed that Gigi was the ultimate victim. First, my brother had tortured her, and now her brother had tortured someone else.

Basically, it painted her as the person who suffered most because of everyone else’s messy actions.

I didn’t need much time to guess who had written it.

It had to be Gigi.

And I knew she would be smart enough to cover her tracks.

So I did the same.

I created a new account, turned on a VPN, and commented, ’That’s not true. I grew up in the same neighborhood as Gigi. She was quite a bitch, though.’

Then I shut my laptop and paced around the house, angry and restless.

Neither brother had called me the entire day yesterday, and I still had to go to the office in a few days. It had to be done.

The next few days were boring, with Mrs. Bakers constantly visiting my door.

Then it was finally the day where I saw them again.

Thankfully, while I was in the bathroom getting ready, messages from both brothers appeared on my phone.

"Are you coming to the office today?"

They had asked the same question in slightly different ways.

I didn’t respond to either of them because I was supposedly still angry about their brother disrespecting me and their failure to shut him up.

I got dressed in a brown office suit and left the house.

It felt strange not waking up to Jenny’s sweet smile, her mother constantly reminding me how wonderful I was, or Lady Lucille calling me over so she could tell me stories about their ancestors.

It was shocking how quickly they had made me feel at home.

I guessed that was what surprised me the most.

When I arrived at the office, a purple sports car immediately reminded me of one person.

Gigi.

Of course she had to stand out.

So she was at the office.

She must have known I was coming. She had probably known the moment I left the house.

I found myself looking forward to our interaction.

After all, she had been practically giddy when she told me she was getting engaged to Ragnar.

And now, I supposed, it was time for her to find out.

I had already felt the fated mate bond with both brothers too.

There was no reason for that information to remain hidden anymore.

So I had a feeling today was going to be one hell of a battle.
