Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2737: Do You Like It Here?
Principal’s office.
Little Clementine was taken over to play by Principal Warner’s wife, while Jasmine Yale discussed the employment matters with the principal.
Although Principal Warner had spoken with Jasmine Yale over the phone several times, this was his first time meeting her in person. She was younger than he had imagined, looking like a college student.
Jasmine Yale, dressed in a deep gray thin coat, was tall, with fair skin. Her long black hair flowed over her shoulders, gentle and harmonious.
This was also Jasmine Yale’s first time meeting Principal Warner; he was likely in his fifties, very simple and plain, one of the few cultured people in Green Peak Village.
"Miss Yale, as you know, the orphanage mainly has girls and children with physical disabilities. They need extra patience most of the time. These kids are mostly unwanted by city folk, secretly sent to the village, and we have no way to send them back."
"We do have volunteers, but there aren’t many permanent teachers. Miss Yale, your coming here is my honor and the children’s good fortune."
"Principal, you’re too kind. Just call me Jasmine."
"The monthly salary isn’t high, Miss Yale, I hope you don’t mind."
Jasmine Yale shook her head: "It’s okay, I like it here. I think my daughter will like it too. However, as I mentioned before, I don’t want anyone to know."
"Rest assured. Most villagers are illiterate and the place is remote; we rarely have strangers visiting. Once a stranger arrives, the whole village quickly knows."
Jasmine understood: "Thank you, Principal, for arranging accommodations for my daughter and me."
Principal laughed: "What we have in excess in our village are houses. Many people left and never returned, leaving their homes empty, but it’s surely not like what you have in the city."
"That’s alright, I find it quite nice here, the scenery is beautiful, and the villagers are very simple. When I arrived, many people wanted to help carry my luggage."
"It’s not as exaggerated as outsiders think. Aside from tough conditions, everything is alright, which is why many people leave soon after coming."
"I will get along well with the children."
"Miss Yale, shall I take you for a walk?"
"Sure."
Jasmine Yale felt good, looking around the principal’s office, although it had only a table and a few chairs, it was simplistic but tidy and orderly.
Outside the window were trees and vegetable patches, with household cats and dogs visible everywhere.
The principal put on his coat and first took Jasmine Yale to her residence.
The house was neither too big nor too small, with three or four rooms, enough for Jasmine Yale and Little Clementine to live in.
It also came with a large yard outside, where a robust ginkgo tree stood. Since it was autumn, golden ginkgo leaves covered the ground, unswept, quite beautiful.
Jasmine Yale’s belongings had already been brought in by someone, and the house had been carefully cleaned.
Jasmine Yale was very grateful to the principal for his special care.
Her bedroom wasn’t too big or small, with a view of green mountains and water when the window was pushed open, and even the air felt fresh and sweet.
"Teacher Yale, do you like it here?" the principal asked.
Jasmine Yale nodded: "I like it very much."
"Let me know if you need anything, I’ll take you around the village then."
The principal accompanied Jasmine Yale all afternoon.
The villagers here were truly simple, and the children lively and active, though the population was sparse and transportation mostly relied on walking.
She also visited the orphanage, there were about ten children, curiously staring at her.
