Family Cultivation: I Become a Mirror
Chapter 641 475 Bai Chan the Qilin Beast_2
"First, activate the Formation."
As Li Xuanxuan began to form hand seals and cast a Spell, a bright radiance rose from the mountain, enveloping the surroundings like a curtain of light, separating the inside from the outside. The two stepped in.
Where there should have been stone tables and stone benches, now there was a dense layer of white. Large and small white cicadas piled upon each other on the ground, leaving no room to step, their shrill cries piercing the air. Several Maids lay fallen on the ground, with white cicadas crawling in and out of their clothing, flapping their wings, trying to take flight.
Li Chengliao's expression was greatly shaken, while Li Xuanfeng reached out to catch a white cicada, which turned into a gold-white smoke and dissipated into the air upon being grasped.
With a step forward, the rustling sounds in the courtyard suddenly ceased, the eerie scene before their eyes vanished without a trace, leaving only a few unconscious Maids on the ground. Li Chengliao quickly stepped inside, while Li Xuanxuan asked in a low voice:
"Could it be a strange phenomena?"
"Exactly."
As Li Xuanfeng entered, his brows were a mix of worry and joy. Just as they stepped into the inner chamber, they heard a child's naïve laughter.
The inner chamber was in disarray, a mess all around. A creature that looked like neither a tiger nor a wolf was lying in the courtyard, with two white horns resembling Jade Stone on its head, and it held a damp infant in its mouth.
Li Chengliao was hurriedly spreading out his white robe beneath the creature, fearing that the animal, which had appeared out of nowhere, might let go and injure the child.
"Crack..."
As soon as Li Xuanfeng entered the room, he heard a sound like the shattering of glass, and the light white robe gently fluttered to the ground. The beast had disappeared without a trace, leaving only the infant falling into Li Chengliao's embrace.
Unable to contain himself, Li Xuanxuan rushed forward. Li Chengliao looked at the infant in his arms with trembling hands. Li Xuanxuan stared intently and met a pair of eyes that glowed gold like amber.
Within those eyes were gold rings nested within each other, a deep, dark gold that struck fear into the hearts of those who looked directly at them.
"This...!"
Both men cried out in unison, only for Li Xuanfeng's face to darken as he clutched his longbow, with the bowstring vibrating wildly, emitting a sharp, piercing scream. He gritted his teeth and said:
"I am Li Xuanfeng. May I ask which senior... has taken refuge in the body of my family's younger generation!"
The moment these words were spoken, a shudder passed through both men. The cups and dishes in the room began to vibrate frantically, seemingly about to shatter into pieces from the force of the Metal Qi the next second, but the infant just puckered its lips and did not respond.
Li Xuanfeng waited briefly, motioned for the others to step back, and took a step forward to meet those amber eyes. Seeing only innocence and clarity in them, he hesitated for a moment and said in a low voice:
"Chengliao, take him to Qingdu."
After all, it was their own child. Li Chengliao quickly wrapped the baby in the white robe and glanced worriedly at his weak wife lying on the bed. Sensing his gaze, Li Xuanxuan understood and said:
"Leave this to me."
The two rode the wind away, while Li Xuanfeng proceeded cautiously, thinking to himself:
"If it were a Buddhist Practitioner, it should not present such a scene. It must be a Taoist Cultivator... At least Zifu... Impossible a Golden Core..."
He roughly estimated the Cultivator's Cultivation Level and mused:
"Logically, only Buddhist Practitioners reincarnate in this manner. Immortal Cultivators wouldn't possess an infant. If one were an adult without a Spirit Aperture, wouldn't that be a death wish? Moreover, to cause such a commotion... What's the necessity..."
Li Xuanxuan, with wider experience, had also heard of reincarnation and possession, fearing that one might disguise one's original body, learn various Spells, consume Provisions and Spiritual Medicine, and then depart, leaving anxiety in his heart.
He thought:
"A reincarnated person would surely have a different Soul from an infant. A sweep with the Immortal Mirror would reveal their secrets, their trump cards, and their destiny at a glance!"
The two landed, and Li Xuanfeng instructed Li Chengliao to wait outside the shrine while he stepped into the inner chamber and prayed:
"Descendant of the Li Clan, Xuanfeng, beseeches Xuanming's guidance to patrol the subtle, to perceive the profound, to illuminate all directions, to capture ghosts and inspect spirits..."
A faint light appeared before his eyes, and within it, the Mirror descended from The Great Void, slowly hovering in front of him. Li Xuanfeng immersed his Spiritual Sense, scanning over Li Chengliao and his son out in the courtyard.
He saw that the baby's spiritual platform was clean, devoid of any Magical Treasures or seals, naively pure, without the heaviness of old age. Though the child's spirit was surging, he seemed untouched by possession or reincarnation.
After triple-checking, Li Xuanfeng breathed a sigh of relief, returned the Immortal Mirror, and waited as its brilliance retreated into The Great Void. Only then did he rise, a smile spreading on his face as he relaxed his hand and strode out of the shrine.
Li Chengliao, anxious from waiting a long time, watched the child's golden amber eyes intently, and no matter how long he looked, they didn't seem to house an old demon.
Seeing Li Xuanfeng burst out in a rush, he quickly approached, only to see the old general laughing heartily, a candid smile spreading across his face as he took the child into his arms. Delighted, he examined the baby and chuckled:
"This child is the Qilin of our family!"
At these words, Li Chengliao breathed a sigh of relief, chuckled foolishly a couple of times, then saw Li Xuanfeng stroking his beard and gesturing with his hands:
"Go, Chengliao, call them all over!"
"Yes, yes..."
Li Chengliao reluctantly went down, and Li Xuanfeng carefully looked at the child in his arms, growing more and more satisfied with each glance. The child did not cry or make a fuss but stared at him with golden eyes.
Li Xuanfeng sat down at the head of the table with the child, scrutinizing it while silently pondering:
"The white cicada buzzes mightily, filling the courtyard; a qilin beast with jade horn, bringing forth a child—this signifies a destiny..."
He sized up the child once more, finding the golden eyes overbearing, and laughed, saying:
"Indeed, a child born to cultivate Mingyang has become a worthy Weili."
The courtyard had already seen people hurrying down; Li Xuanxuan was the first to enter, striding into the hall with a puzzled look at him, but Li Xuanfeng gestured:
"No issue! It's a qilin child."
Li Xuanfeng handed over the infant in his arms, and Li Xuanxuan examined the child, his old eyes slightly moistened. After a few breaths, everyone inside the hall had arrived, and without further ado, Li Xuanfeng spoke softly:
"Perhaps it is a child of destiny."
The crowd exchanged looks of joy, only to hear a surprised, clear voice from the corner:
"So that's how it is!"
"Hmm?"
Li Xuanfeng looked up, seeing Li Yuexiang with bright eyes. Her thoughts were quick, imitating her mother's demeanor perfectly, and she immediately responded:
"Do all the elders still remember the matter of Xu Xiao?"
The moment these words were spoken, Li Xuanfeng narrowed his eyes and said coldly:
"At that time, I was not at home. Otherwise, such nonsense... could not have stirred up any waves!"
Li Chengliao and the others had experienced this matter firsthand, showing a look of lingering fear, and Li Chengliao laughed, saying:
"Our family now has a qilin child too... Oh?"
As Li Chengliao spoke, a look of enlightenment flashed across his face, seemingly guessing what she was about to say. Li Yuexiang explained softly:
"Back then, when that man was killed, my brother said something, claiming Xu Xiao's influence on Chengliao was minor... If it weren't for that, he would have let him leave early, unable to detect anything abnormal!"
Li Xuanfeng frowned slightly, speaking softly:
"Are you saying that because Chengliao is to be the father of this child... it gave him the ability to resist?"
Everyone fell silent, deep in thought, finding it hard to believe, and Li Xuanfeng also shook his head, saying:
"It's hard to say, let's just guess! If destiny has such capability..."
He didn't finish his sentence but unusually smiled, looking at the child in his arms, then looked around and replied:
"Seeing this child eases my mind a great deal; I can go to the Southern Border with peace of mind now!"
The atmosphere among the people had been down for months, and it was rare for everyone to feel joyful. Li Ximing, in particular, looked repeatedly, his whole body relaxing as if he had shed some great load, appearing somewhat lost in thought.
Li Ximing held the child, locking eyes with him, and felt the "Huanyuan Border" inside him surge, unable to help but praise:
"Truly a child born to cultivate Mingyang."
Li Xuanfeng nodded, motioning for Li Chengliao to approach, and smiled, asking:
"Have you prepared a name?"
Li Chengliao had considered the name Li Zhou'an, but now felt that the name seemed lacking, and respectfully said:
"I beseech the elders for a name."
Li Xuanfeng pondered for a moment, then spoke softly:
"Why not... take the word 'Wei,' which fits just right."
"Li Zhouwei."
