Family Cultivation: I Become a Mirror
Chapter 640 475: Bai Chan, the Qilin Beast
For two months the rain had fallen over Wangyue Lake, its waters clear and bright, causing the lake to surge and consequently rendering it crystal clear. Li Chengliao initiated his mana amidst the rain, his head bowed.
On the muddy shore before him, two rows of giant bluestone dams stood erect, the water levels rising, gradually nearing the two towns. In one night, upon a resolution made by Li Xihong in the Central Hall, the dams had sprung from the earth.
The lake was the result of a mystical weather pattern, and though not considered a Spiritual Object, the gradually accumulating force of the waters was indeed vast, something ordinary dams couldn't withstand. Without someone to oversee it, it would likely flood all the way to the foot of the mountain.
Several cultivators of mixed qi were patrolling the dam, seemingly inspecting the formation. Upon seeing him, they all respectfully bowed with clasped hands. Li Chengliao responded warmly and generously and personally conducted an inspection.
Building a dam wasn't a significant challenge given the Li Family's strength, but as it pertained to the well-being of the people, Li Chengliao, as the clan leader, naturally took it upon himself to inspect the work. Although his father, Li Xihong, was the Family Head, Li Chengliao had been taught from a young age not to take his responsibilities lightly.
His uncle An Siwei stood beside him, holding a spear. The An Family had excellent lineage, and he had already reached the Eighth Layer of Qi Cultivation, having learned many spells, and was highly powerful.
Li Chengliao finished his inspection quickly and descended on the wind, saying to the cultivators gathering in the rain:
"The construction is adequate. Keep a close watch. If the waters breach this dam and inundate the towns..."
The elder cultivator in front of him, wearing a bamboo hat, hurriedly bowed and said:
"Young Master, rest assured, we hold the family's rules close to heart."
Only then did Li Chengliao depart with peace of mind, flying slowly to the foot of the mountain, though his brow remained furrowed with concerns.
Counting the time, his wife from the Hu Clan had been pregnant for eleven months, yet there was no sign of childbirth.
He politely sent An Siwei away and entered the backyard, pushing open the chamber door. His wife was leaning against the bed, looking somewhat drowsy. Li Chengliao sat beside her and seeing her pale lips, he couldn't help but frown slightly.
"What's the matter?"
He called out and caught sight of the broken porcelain powder on the ground. The maid beside him said with a trembling voice:
"The lady... The lady has already drunk much water..."
Li Chengliao had been paying attention for a while. Now, as he felt his wife's forehead, he found her burning up with fever. As he looked at her closely, a strong sense of danger rose in his heart; he felt uneasy. He covered her with the blanket and, with growing anxiety, stood up and paced before speaking:
"Keep a good watch on her, I'm going to Qingdu."
He hurried out of the hall, throwing a white robe draped in front of the Hall over his shoulders. The usually generous and magnanimous look in his eyes now carried a shadow of gloom, as he swiftly rose on the wind. After circling Qingdu Mountain, he remembered that his Eighth Uncle, Li Xijun, had gone into seclusion.
Li Chengliao clenched his teeth and instead flew towards the Talisman Peak to find the Great Elder, Li Xuanxuan.
Few figures populated Talisman Peak, as Li Xuanxuan had few servants since his youth, disliking such formalities. Li Chengliao entered the main hall easily and had just reached its entrance when he heard a strong and deep voice:
"Ning Dingbo reported that Yuan Tuan was dispatched to the East Sea market district. In my opinion, the Yuan Family is probably..."
The voice's owner seemed to sense his presence and abruptly stopped. Li Chengliao promptly knelt, saying respectfully:
"Chengliao pays respects to his two great-uncles."
Li Xuanfeng, whose presence was overbearing and who had a high seniority within the family, thus earning everyone's reverence, caused Li Chengliao to feel secretly apprehensive. Lowering his head, he only saw a pair of boots interwoven with black and gold, listening as Li Xuanxuan introduced him softly above:
"This is Zhong's grandson, Li Chengliao."
Then, he heard Li Xuanfeng gently answer and tell him to rise. Li Chengliao quickly stood up and for the first time made eye contact with this fearsome elder.
To his surprise, the pair of dark grey eyes did not look ferocious but rather held a certain gentleness, examining him from head to toe.
Li Xuanfeng seemed slightly stunned as he looked at him, as if reminiscing something. Li Chengliao did not dare to delay and spoke gravely:
"My wife's first child... She has been pregnant for eleven months, and there's still no sign of birth. On the contrary, her vitality is fading. I've used spells to investigate several times, but I've found nothing."
"Hmm?"
Li Xuanxuan momentarily paused before speaking:
"I'll go down..."
"Let's all go have a look."
Li Xuanfeng spoke up, immediately delighting Li Chengliao, as the elder's reputation and profound knowledge were beyond compare to those within the family. He promptly invited them out.
As Li Xuanfeng stepped out, he turned his head to Li Xuanxuan:
"Zhong's descendants all have a gentle and stable temperament, which is quite admirable."
Li Xuanxuan silently nodded; they exited the Great Formation, only to see Li Xuanfeng suddenly stop, his eyes narrowing, his expression turning stern.
His hands clasped behind him slowly reached backward, as a flamboyantly styled golden bow materialized behind him. Li Xuanxuan sensed something amiss and looked up to see the clouds in the sky gradually dispersing.
The rain over Wangyue Lake had persisted for half a year, yet it quietly receded at this moment. The thick clouds vanished, and although the rain still fell, the sun now shone upon the land.
Specks of brilliant light were rising from the sky, the day brightening. The torrential downpour was falling from thin air, with Li Xuanfeng's eyes glittering with gold as he activated his Pupil Technique.
Under the scrutiny of the Pupil Technique, at the base of Lijing Mountain, a yellowish-white cloud, glowing brightly and shaped like a carriage cover, was rising, enveloping the air half way up the mountain.
Li Xuanfeng took two steps out and landed in the mountain woods while Li Xuanxuan and Li Chengliao flew after him. Li Xuanfeng looked towards the cloud slowly rising above the hall and spoke in a low voice:
