Falling For The True Heiress
Chapter 129: She’s My Girlfriend...
~~~~~~ Amelia’s POV ~~~~~
I slowly opened my eyes and was greeted by a white, unfamiliar ceiling. I stared at it for a few seconds, blinking against the bright light above me.
My eyes felt heavy, and the light seemed almost too bright, making me squint slightly. There was a faint smell of medicine in the air, mixed with the clean, sharp scent of the hospital. Somewhere beside me, I could hear the quiet beeping of a machine.
I heard faint voices of people talking before I heard my name.
"Amelia..."
The voice sounded close, but I couldn’t recognize it.
I slowly turned my head toward where my name came from. The movement made my head ache slightly, and I paused for a moment before continuing.
I saw an unfamiliar face, although she was beautiful, with black hair that fell freely over her shoulders. A few strands rested against the side of her face, framing her delicate features.
She was staring at me with concern.
I frowned as I stared back at her in confusion. There was something about the way she looked at me that made my chest feel strangely tight, even though I couldn’t understand why.
"Who... are you?" I asked, my voice coming out weak and rough.
I watched as her face dropped.
For a moment, she didn’t say anything. Her eyes seemed to lose the little light they had, and something painful crossed her expression before she quickly tried to hide it.
She blinked before moving closer to me.
It was strange that my body reacted to her, but I had never met her before. I couldn’t explain the feeling. Looking at her made something inside me shift, as though some part of me recognized her even when my mind didn’t.
"I’m Sylvia," she said, looking at me with a sad expression, as if she was trying to remind me that I knew her.
My frown deepened as I looked away from her and turned to the next person standing at the edge of the bed.
The moment I saw her, I recognized her immediately.
My confusion disappeared, and a small smile appeared on my face.
"Camila," I called immediately.
Camila stared at me in surprise. "You remembered... me?"
I frowned immediately. "What do you mean?"
Her expression changed slightly, but before she could answer, the door opened, and a doctor walked in with a nurse.
The sound of the door opening made everyone turn toward it. The doctor walked into the room with a calm expression, while the nurse followed closely behind him.
The doctor went straight to my bed while the nurse stood beside him.
"How are you feeling?" the doctor asked.
I looked at him. My throat felt dry, and my head still felt heavy. "My head hurts a little."
He nodded and checked the monitor beside my bed. The screen displayed several numbers that I didn’t understand. The quiet beeping continued at a steady rhythm.
"Any dizziness?"
"A little."
"Can you see clearly?"
I looked around the room before nodding. The white walls, the bed, the people standing around me, and the equipment beside me were all clear enough.
"Yes."
The doctor shone a small light into my eyes and checked both pupils. "Follow the light with your eyes."
I did as he instructed, slowly moving my eyes from one side to the other as the light moved. The brightness made me blink, but I tried to follow it carefully.
He then checked my pulse and blood pressure before looking at the nurse.
"What’s her current reading?"
The nurse checked the monitor and looked at the numbers before answering.
"Stable, doctor."
The doctor nodded and turned back to me.
"Do you know your name?"
I didn’t need to think about that one.
"Amelia," I answered quietly.
"Good. Do you know where you are?"
I looked around the room again. Everything still felt unfamiliar, but I knew enough to understand where I was. "In the hospital."
"Do you remember the accident?"
I frowned.
The word immediately made me pause.
"Accident?"
I searched my mind for an image, a sound, or even a small detail that could explain what he was talking about, but nothing came.
"No."
"Do you remember anything before the accident?"
I tried to think, but my mind remained blank. I closed my eyes, hoping that something would suddenly return to me.
Nothing. Not even a small memory.
I opened my eyes again.
"No."
The doctor watched my expression for a moment. His face remained calm, but I could tell from the way he studied me that my answers were important.
"That’s alright. Don’t force yourself to remember anything. You may have some memory loss because of the impact."
I frowned. "Memory loss?"
The words made me uneasy.
"Yes. It can be temporary, but we need to monitor you closely."
I stared at him, trying to understand what he meant.
There was a strange emptiness inside my head. I knew my name. I knew where I was. I could recognize Camila. But there were things I couldn’t remember.
He turned to the nurse.
"Continue monitoring her vital signs. If she complains of a severe headache, vomiting, increasing dizziness, or becoming unconscious again, inform me immediately."
"Yes, doctor."
The doctor looked at me once.
For now, you need to rest. Avoid trying too hard to remember anything." He stepped away from the bed. "I’ll check on you again later."
The nurse nodded and followed him as they walked out of the room. The door closed behind them, leaving the room quiet again.
For a few seconds, nobody spoke.
I could still hear the steady beeping from the machine beside me. My head felt heavy against the pillow, and my body felt strangely weak.
Camila walked closer to me and sat down.
The mattress shifted slightly under her weight. I turned to look at her with a serious expression.
"How did I end up with an accident?" I asked slowly.
I wanted an answer.
I wanted to know what had happened to me, where I had been, and why I was lying in a hospital bed with a headache and a blank space where my memories should have been.
Camila patted my head gently and smiled.
The touch was familiar in a way that made me feel slightly calmer.
"I will tell you once you recover, but first, thank your savior."
Camila pointed toward a man.
I followed the direction of her hand.
A man was standing away from my bed. I hadn’t paid much attention to him before because of everything happening around me, but now that Camila had pointed him out, I looked at him properly.
He seemed calm, and there was a small smile on his face.
I smiled. "Thank you so much, sir."
He waved at me and smiled. "I’m not an old man. Just call me Dominic."
His words made me smile slightly. "Thanks, Dominic."
Dominic smiled. "That’s not a problem."
I nodded and looked away from him.
My eyes returned to Sylvia. She was still looking at me.
There was something about her expression that I couldn’t understand. She hadn’t taken her eyes away from me for long, and there was something almost painful in the way she watched me.
I didn’t know her.
At least, my mind didn’t know her. Yet something inside me reacted whenever I looked at her.
I leaned closer to Camila a little.
"Who’s she?" I said slowly, still looking at Sylvia.
Camila seemed about to answer. "That’s..."
"She’s my girlfriend." Another woman who had been standing silently said, interrupting Camila.
Everyone turned to look at her.
I looked at the woman who had spoken. She seemed calm, but there was a faint smile on her face.
"Daniela," Camila called slowly, and the woman looked at her.
"Who’s she?" I said immediately.
I looked between Daniela and Sylvia, trying to understand what was happening.
Camila let out a slow breath before turning to me. "That’s my little cousin."
"Ohh!" I said immediately.
I remembered Camila telling me about her.
The memory wasn’t completely clear, but I remembered enough to recognize what she meant.
"Hi, Daniela."
Daniela smiled and waved at me. She then walked towards Sylvia and pulled her closer to her.
Sylvia frowned as she looked up at her face.
I watched them silently.
Something inside my chest tightened. I didn’t understand why.
Daniela stood close to Sylvia, and Sylvia didn’t move away. Their closeness made an uncomfortable feeling spread through me.
My chest tightened as I watched how close they were.
I felt a dull ache spread through my chest and down through my body.
I didn’t understand it.
I had just woken up.
I couldn’t remember most of what had happened before the accident.
I didn’t even remember Sylvia.
So why did seeing her standing so close to Daniela hurt?
Why did I suddenly feel uncomfortable?
Daniela looked down at Sylvia and flicked her forehead gently with a small smile on her face.
"You haven’t eaten, right? Let’s go find something for you to eat."
My fingers tightened immediately and my jaw clenched as I watched them.
I didn’t like seeing them together.
The feeling came so suddenly that I barely had time to understand it.
Before I could stop myself, I immediately reached out and held Sylvia’s hand.
Her hand was warm against mine. The moment my fingers closed around hers, something strange happened inside me.
It felt natural.
"Don’t go."
The words left my mouth before I realized what I had just said.
Silence filled the room.
Sylvia looked down at my hand that was holding hers and then slowly lifted her eyes to my face.
I suddenly realized what I had done. I immediately pulled my hand away from hers.
"Sorry."
My face felt slightly warm.
I didn’t know why I had stopped her. I didn’t know why I had reached for her. I didn’t even know her.
At least, I didn’t remember knowing her.
"Do you remember anything?" Camila asked me immediately.
I looked at her.
Her question made me search my mind again.
I tried to remember the accident. I tried to remember what happened before it. I tried to remember Sylvia.
But there was nothing.
I shook my head. "No, I didn’t."
Sylvia stared at me for a moment. There was something in her eyes that made my chest ache again.
Before I could understand it, Daniela held her hand and helped her to stand up.
Sylvia rose slowly from where she had been standing.
My eyes followed her. I watched as Daniela held her hand.
Why do I feel sad seeing them together?
The question appeared in my mind without warning.
Why does my heart burn seeing them close?
I swallowed hard.
Why did I want to hold Sylvia back?
I looked at her face again.
There was something about her that felt familiar.
Her voice.
Her eyes.
The way my body had reacted when she came close to me. The warmth I had felt when I held her hand. But my mind gave me nothing.
Did I know her before?
Different thoughts came through my head all at once.
Maybe I knew her.
Maybe she really was someone important to me.
Maybe there was something I was supposed to remember.
I tried to search deeper. I closed my eyes and forced myself to think.
But I couldn’t remember anything.
I pushed harder, but a sharp ache suddenly struck my head.
I gasped.
My breathing became heavier as the pain grew stronger. I grabbed my head with both hands.
"AHAHAHA!!!" I screamed, holding my head so tight.
The pain felt unbearable for a moment. My fingers pressed against my hair as I squeezed my eyes shut.
Everything around me seemed to blur.
I couldn’t think. I couldn’t remember.
The harder I tried, the worse the pain became.
Sylvia turned immediately and ran towards me.
"Are you alright, babe?"
