Falling For My Alpha Stepsister (GL)
Chapter 206: Trying
April was seated in the living room, tucked into the little workspace that had been set up for her before she gave birth to Lucy May. The corner had everything she needed to handle her work from home, with a desk, a comfortable swivel chair, and enough room to organise her documents without taking over the rest of the living room.
She was going through the files Katie had sent her, carefully checking each document on her laptop and pausing whenever something needed a second look. Becoming a mother had changed her daily routine, but she still had responsibilities to attend to, and she was determined not to let them pile up.
A few steps away, Angel was busy trying to get their daughter to sleep.
With Lulu nestled against her chest, the Alpha paced around the living room, gently rocking the little girl in her arms. Every now and then, she adjusted her hold and glanced down at her daughter’s face, hoping to find her eyes closed. However, Lucy May seemed determined to keep her mother occupied, leaving Angel to continue her slow walk around the room.
Despite the task at hand, her attention kept drifting towards April.
Her wife was so engrossed in her work that she barely looked up while checking the documents and making notes. After going through several files, she picked up her phone and called Katie to discuss the details that needed their attention. Angel could hear their conversation from across the room, but she stayed out of it, patiently waiting for April to finish while doing her best to settle Lulu.
By the time the call ended, Angel had finally managed to get their little girl to sleep.
She slowed her steps and looked down at the peaceful face resting against her chest. After making sure Lulu was comfortable, she let out a relieved sigh, grateful that the house would finally be quiet for a while.
April saved her work, closed the laptop, and pushed it aside before turning her swivel chair around. Her eyes immediately met Angel’s. The Alpha had been watching her, waiting patiently for her to finish, and the moment their gazes met, a small smile appeared on April’s face.
"Is she asleep?" April whispered.
Angel nodded, and after carefully settling Lulu inside her crib in the nursery, the two women checked that their daughter was comfortable before quietly leaving the room. They pulled the door shut behind them, taking care not to make any noise that might disturb her.
For the first time in seven months, they finally had a little time to themselves.
Since Lucy May’s arrival, finding a private moment together had become more difficult than either of them had expected. Their daughter needed plenty of attention, and just when they thought they had found an opportunity to enjoy each other’s company, something would inevitably interrupt them. Tonight, they were determined to make the most of their time together before their little girl woke up again.
Unfortunately, their plans barely got started.
Angel had only just begun helping her wife out of her clothes when a cry sounded through the baby monitor.
The Alpha froze, her hands still on April’s clothes, and slowly turned towards the device.
"Please, not now," she whispered, staring at the monitor as though her daughter might somehow understand her plea.
April pressed her lips together, struggling to keep a straight face as she watched her wife’s reaction.
Angel waited, hoping Lulu would settle on her own. The crying continued for a few seconds before suddenly stopping, and the Alpha’s expression brightened with relief.
"See? She’s fine."
Not wanting to waste another moment, Angel turned back to April and resumed kissing her. For a few precious seconds, she allowed herself to believe that they might actually get some time alone.
Then the baby monitor crackled again.
Lulu’s cries returned, louder than before.
Angel slowly pulled away and stared at the device in disbelief. Her shoulders slumped, and a groan escaped her lips as she realised their plans had been interrupted once again.
"Our daughter hates me," she muttered.
April could no longer contain her laughter.
"She doesn’t hate you, Papi."
"Then why does she keep doing this whenever I want to spend time with my wife?"
April had no answer that would satisfy her frustrated Alpha. With another defeated sigh, Angel straightened her clothes, accepting that their private moment would have to wait.
A little while later, she was sitting on the dining table, watching April breastfeed their daughter on the couch. Lulu rested comfortably against her mother’s chest, feeding peacefully as though she hadn’t just interrupted what might have been a very different evening.
Angel, meanwhile, looked ready to cry.
This was far from the first time their daughter had ruined an attempt at intimacy. Since Lucy May’s birth, she always seemed to wake up at the most inconvenient moments, whether she was hungry, restless, or simply wanted her mother’s attention. Whatever the reason, Angel and April never seemed to get very far before something called them back to their parental duties.
The Alpha was beginning to wonder whether they would ever have a proper moment to themselves again.
"Why do I feel like she is doing this to me on purpose..." Angel grumbled, watching Lulu suckle contentedly.
April smiled and gently stroked her daughter’s chubby cheek, careful not to disturb her feeding.
"Come on, she is still a baby, and hungry. Maybe she will sleep after feeding..."
Angel gave her a doubtful look. She wanted to believe her wife, but their daughter’s timing had made it increasingly difficult to remain hopeful.
"Seven months is really my longest streak without having sex..." she complained, releasing another miserable sigh.
April turned towards her, amusement written all over her face. Her usually confident Alpha looked genuinely defeated, and there was something rather funny about seeing Angel lose a battle against their little daughter.
"Don’t worry, Papi, hang in there. We will find a time for ourselves..." She shifted slightly to make room beside her and patted the couch. "Come lie down here."
Angel accepted the invitation without hesitation.
She climbed down from the dining table and stretched out on the couch, resting her head on April’s lap while extending her legs along the cushions. From there, she could watch Lulu feed and remain close to her wife, even if their plans for the evening had been pushed aside yet again.
April gently ran her fingers through Angel’s hair as she continued feeding their daughter. For a little while, the three of them settled into a comfortable silence, and the Alpha began to relax against her wife’s lap.
Perhaps their evening wasn’t going to be a complete disaster after all.
Then Lulu pulled her mouth away from her mother’s nipple and began wailing.
Angel immediately sat upright, staring at the baby with wide eyes. She pointed an accusing finger at her daughter, looking as though she had finally caught her red-handed.
"You see, I told you so! Lulu knows what she is doing..."
April glanced at her indignant wife before looking down at their crying daughter. The sight was too much for her, and she burst into laughter.
"My two babies are so much alike..."
