Falling For My Alpha Stepsister (GL)

Chapter 171: Calling Abigail

  • Next Chapter

While April was busy talking with her parents and siblings inside the Del Rosario’s mansion, Angel went outside to try to call her childhood best friend, Abigail.

She was gently holding Coco in her left arm as she waited for the call to connect.

The garden was much quieter now. Most of the guests had moved inside, leaving Angel with a rare moment alone.

It was surprisingly only her first try, and it took just a few seconds before Abigail actually picked up the line.

Angel was genuinely surprised because her other friends had been constantly telling her that Abigail didn’t pick up their calls anymore.

Angel took a brief second before she finally spoke into the phone.

"Hello, Abby..."

"Hello, Angel. This really has to be a dream for me to be hearing your voice right now."

"How are you doing over there? Not even a single call from you lately. Did you go find yourself another best friend?" Angel said with a big smile spreading across her face.

Just hearing Abigail’s familiar voice was already making her so happy inside.

There was something comforting about hearing the voice of someone who had known her for most of her life.

"I only have one true best friend, and she is certainly not here with me. But just know that I am doing great. Tell me, how is Mexico treating you?"

Angel’s smile instantly faded, her face changing.

She wasn’t expecting anyone back home to know about her exact location, especially the people in the district.

"How did you even know that I am in Mexico? Spying on me, huh?"

"Where else would you ever go, Angel? The only place that you could ever run to is your mom’s hometown. You once said that exact thing to me yourself years ago."

"Aww, I completely forgot my best friend knows me even better than I know myself. I’m so sorry I didn’t call you or inform you that I was leaving back then. I really hope you are not angry with me?"

"Of course not, I will never be angry with you, Angel. You are the absolute last person on this earth I will ever be angry with."

"I’m so glad to hear that. So tell me, how is life treating you over there? How is the district, your old husband, and your new kid? Is it a boy or a girl? Tell me all the little details."

Angel carefully switched the phone to her other hand, then bent down and placed Coco gently onto the green ground.

She watched the orange cat immediately start wandering around the garden, sniffing at the grass and the flowers as if the entire place belonged to her.

"My life is great here, Angel. There’s really nothing special to tell you about."

"Hmm, why? You don’t want to tell me? Okay, just tease me a little bit. What name did you give the child? Is it Mirabel or Jonathan?" Angel asked eagerly.

She really wanted to know about Abby’s life over there, but the girl didn’t seem to want to talk about it at all.

Angel’s curiosity only grew stronger because Abigail had always been the kind of person who could talk about everything with her.

The fact that she was suddenly so private felt unusual.

"Since you really don’t want to talk about your life over there right now, I will just tell you all about mine."

Angel smiled warmly into the phone.

"I have a cottage, a land, five cute cats, and a wonderful fiancée who I’m officially getting married to in just three days. I finally got back into the water again. I am a working fisherwoman, a rancher, and the best part... I am going to be a mommy soon. My first daughter will be named Lucy May."

There was a long, heavy silence on the other end of the line.

Angel waited patiently.

She could already imagine Abigail processing everything.

"...That is so good for you, Angel. I’m truly happy to hear that you finally got over all the old guilt, and now you are getting married to the person you love and having a child with the person you love."

"Yeah, I’m so deeply in love with my April. She is my forever sunshine. I should really be thanking you because you are one of the main people who made me realize that love is actually possible and a real family is real."

Angel smiled as she looked down toward Coco playing near her feet.

For a moment, she simply watched her cat moving through the grass while thinking about how much her life had changed.

Months ago, she could never have imagined standing in a garden dressed for her wedding, holding a phone to her ear while telling her oldest friend that she was about to become a mother.

Now it was happening.

Angel Bent The Knee..

"You know, you and your kid can come to my wedding. I will personally arrange for your stay here in town. What do you say?"

"I’m afraid I won’t be able to make it because I am very busy over here. But I wish you all the best in your new married life. Angel, I really have to go now. My husband is calling for me. Bye."

And Abigail abruptly hung up the line.

Angel stood there holding her phone, completely unable to understand why there was such a rush to leave the call.

Angel and Abigail used to spend endless hours talking on the phone. Even when Abigail was extremely busy, she would always still stay on the line with her no matter what.

But maybe things had simply changed because she had become a mother now. Maybe life was completely different for her over there, and things just weren’t the same anymore between them.

Angel didn’t think of it as a big deal at all.

As long as Abigail was doing great and was truly happy with her current life, there was nothing to worry about.

She slipped her phone back into her pocket and looked down at Coco, who was still happily wandering around the grass.

Inside the mansion, her family was preparing for another round of wedding activities, and April was waiting for her.

Angel smiled faintly before turning back toward the house.

She had no reason to believe anything was wrong.

If only Angel actually knew that there was so much more to worry about.

Abigail was slowly changing into someone else entirely without her best friend by her side.
