F-Rank Awakening: My System Turns Trash Skills To SSS-RANK
Chapter 54: Mana Recovery 2
The reaction was immediate.
The dull, freezing numbness in his left shoulder vanished, replaced by a warm, prickling heat as his core energy began forcefully circulating through his damaged tissues. The ragged tear on his calf stopped throbbing, the skin along the edges of the cut tingling as his body’s supernatural recovery kicked into gear.
His status panel updated instantly in the corner of his vision.
[HP: 25 -> 28 / 130 (Passive Recovery Active)]
Rain let out a long, shuddering breath. A visible plume of white vapor escaped his lips as the mana hummed through his bloodstream.
He stood up.
He didn’t stumble. He didn’t drag his right leg. He stood tall in the narrow conduit, his feet planted firmly on the wet concrete floor, his right hand curling into a tight, dense fist.
He rolled his left shoulder once, twice, three times. The joint creaked, but the burning pain had receded into a manageable, dull pressure.
"Alright," Rain whispered to himself, his voice quiet, calm, and utterly devoid of the panic that had gripped him moments before.
He looked around the concrete corner into the broad pumping station.
The three Gravewrights were ten yards away, advancing through the shallow water in a loose triangle formation. The lead abomination was five paces ahead of the other two, its gaunt bone frame gliding forward, its featureless white face split open to reveal the hungry, dark cavity inside.
Rain stared at them, his eyes cold, focused, and predatory.
He didn’t fear them anymore. He knew exactly what they were. He knew their exact attack vectors, their structural weaknesses, and the exact physical conditions required for their mana drain to trigger.
’They need contact,’ Rain thought, stepping out from behind the concrete corner with a light, measured stride. ’They don’t have ranged quills. They don’t have spore clouds. They are pure melee brawlers that rely on touching you to steal your mana and heal their own frames. Deny the contact, and they’re just six-foot targets made of brittle bone.’
The three Gravewrights stopped simultaneously as Rain stepped into the open chamber. Their smooth face plates swiveled toward him, the needle-like cartilage lining their inner face seams vibrating with a high-pitched, metallic hiss.
The lead Gravewright lunged forward, its long skeletal legs driving through the shallow water as it covered the ten-yard distance in less than a second, its horned right hand stabbing straight for Rain’s chest.
Rain didn’t retreat. He didn’t brace for impact.
He stepped inside the angle of the thrust, dropping his hips three inches, and let the horned hand whistle past his right cheek.
As the creature’s arm extended past his ear, Rain brought his right elbow down like a descending hammer straight onto the creature’s extended elbow joint.
With his Strength behind the strike, the brittle bone joint shattered instantly. The Gravewright’s long lower arm collapsed backward, dangling uselessly by a few strands of blackened root fiber.
The creature let out a high-pitched, vibrating shriek from its open face seam, its left hand instantly sweeping around to catch Rain’s neck.
Rain didn’t wait for the fingers to touch his skin.
’Flash Step.’
[Flash Step: Zero Drag activated]
[Mana: 5 -> 2]
The world lost all friction. Rain vanished from his position in a blinding grey blur, sliding backward across ten feet of flooded concrete in a fraction of a millisecond.
The second and third Gravewrights, who had been closing in from the flanks to trap him in a three-way crossfire, slammed into each other as Rain vanished from the center of their trap. Their heavy bone frames collided with a loud, metallic clang, their long arms entangling as they stumbled sideways in the shallow water.
Rain came to a dead stop against a concrete pillar on the left side of the room.
He didn’t pause. He reached into the front pocket of his hoodie with his right hand, pulled out a second Minor Mana Recovery Potion, popped the stopper with his teeth, and downed it in a single fluid motion.

[Mana: 2 -> 7 / 14]
[HP: 28 -> 34 / 130]
The cold, arctic energy surged through his core once more, driving his mana back up to seven points while his passive physical recovery ticked upward again.
"Two left," Rain muttered, dropping the empty glass vial into the water.
He surged forward from the pillar before the two entangled Gravewrights could separate their limbs.
He reached the trailing creature on the right, grabbed a rusted iron support bar protruding from the fallen catwalk frame overhead, and used his entire upper body weight to yank the iron bar downward, driving the sharp, jagged metal end directly into the back of the Gravewright’s neck.
The four-inch iron bar punched straight through the skeletal spine, severing the central root bundle connecting the skull to the torso.
The creature’s featureless face plate flared with violent purple light for a fraction of a second before its entire body went limp, collapsing face-first into the flooded floor with a heavy splash.

The remaining two Gravewrights detached from each other.
The first one, its left elbow shattered and dangling, swiveled its face seam toward Rain, while the third, completely undamaged abomination let out a deafening, metallic screech that shook loose stone dust from the ceiling catwalks.
Both creatures charged simultaneously from two different angles, cutting off Rain’s exit routes against the left wall.
’No room to maneuver,’ Rain evaluated, his mind calm and detached. ’The damaged one is on the left. The fast one is on the right.’
As they reached five feet from his position, the undamaged Gravewright on the right lunged, both of its horned hands spreading wide to wrap around Rain’s torso in a lethal, full-body drain grapple.
Rain didn’t try to dodge sideways.
He stepped straight into the damaged Gravewright on the left, the one with the broken arm.
He slammed his shoulder into the creature’s chest, using his Strength to drive the wounded abomination directly into the path of the fast-charging creature on the right.
The two gaunt bodies collided hard in mid-air. The undamaged Gravewright’s horned fingers accidentally drove deep into its wounded pack mate’s face seam, its own mana drain ability triggering against its companion’s core.
A violent, chaotic surge of crimson and purple light erupted from the collision as the two creatures’ drain fields short-circuited each other.
"My turn," Rain said.
’Seven left,’ he thought, counting it out even as he moved. ’The potion got me up from two. One more Flash Step and I’m at four.’
He leaped into the air above the tangled mess of limbs, reaching down with both hands to grab the undamaged Gravewright’s head by its upper bone plate.
He didn’t try to hold on. He didn’t give it time to drain his hands.
’Flash Step.’
[Flash Step: Zero Drag activated] ℴ
[Mana: 7 -> 4]
With Zero Drag active, Rain’s body accelerated downward toward the concrete floor at terrifying speed, dragging the Gravewright’s head along with him.
He slammed the abomination’s face plate straight into the sharp, jagged edge of the fallen iron catwalk frame resting on the floorboards.
The smooth calcium face plate shattered like glass under the concussive impact. Rain’s fist drove straight into the exposed internal skull cavity, his fingers locking around the main root knot and tearing it free with a single, violent twist.

Rain rolled across the flooded floor as the second creature went completely lifeless, its gaunt frame collapsing over the iron frame.
The final Gravewright, the one with the shattered arm, scrambled back to its feet, dark, oily fluid leaking from its broken face seam as it hissed at Rain through the darkness.
It raised its remaining good arm, its four horn fingers vibrating with a desperate, frantic energy, and lunged for Rain’s throat.
Rain stood his ground in three inches of standing water.
He didn’t use Flash Step. He didn’t dodge.
He reached into his hoodie pocket, pulled out the third Minor Mana Recovery Potion, popped the cork, and drank it while staring directly into the creature’s featureless face as it covered the final five feet.

As the horned fingers reached within two inches of his skin, Rain ducked his head, drove his left shoulder into the creature’s midsection, and slammed it backward onto the flooded concrete.
He dropped onto the creature’s chest, drove his bare right hand into its damaged face seam, and crushed the core nerve bundle without hesitation.
The final Gravewright shuddered once, its remaining arm dropping limply into the dark water, before going completely motionless.

[Experience: 486 / 900]
Silence descended on the wide pumping station once more, broken only by the steady, heavy thrumming vibrating through the floorboards below.
Rain sat on the chest of the dead abomination, his hands resting on his knees, his chest rising and falling in deep, even cycles.
He looked down at his status panel.
[HP: 42 / 130 (Passive Recovery Active)]
[Mana: 9 / 14]
He reached down, harvested the three D-Rank High cores from the dead creatures without lingering on the task, and slipped them into his hoodie pocket alongside his remaining unused Minor Mana Recovery Potion.
He stood up in the center of the quiet chamber, rolling both shoulders. His physical body still carried the bruises, cuts, and battered ribs from a dozen brutal engagements, but the dark, suffocating fog of exhaustion had completely cleared.
His mana pool was sitting comfortably at nine points, his passive core circulation steadily stitching his damaged muscles back together with every passing minute.
He turned toward the far side of the pumping station.
A massive, circular archway, ten feet wide and reinforced with heavy iron rivets, led down a steep, winding stone staircase into the deep foundations of the sector.
The vibration was coming from down there.
Rain walked toward the archway, his footsteps echoing crisp and clear against the wet stone. He didn’t hesitate. He didn’t pause to check his footing. He walked with a smooth, dangerous purpose, his eyes locked on the dark stairwell ahead.
He descended the winding stairs, taking three steps at a time.
The air grew progressively colder as he went deeper, carrying a thick, heavy stench that smelled like turned earth, iron rust, and old, decayed blood. The walls of the stairwell were slick with black moisture, the stone blocks cracked and bowed inward under the tremendous weight of the city above.
After fifty paces, the winding stairs ended at a massive iron doorway that had been blasted off its hinges, hanging loosely from a single rusted bracket.
Rain stepped through the broken doorway.
He found himself standing on a narrow, high ledge overlooking a colossal, vaulted subterranean chamber.
The room was vast, at least two hundred feet across, with a high, arched ceiling supported by twelve massive concrete pillars that ran down into a deep, flooded pit below. The floor of the pit was covered in eighteen inches of dark, stagnant water, strewn with collapsed structural beams, shattered supply crates, and the burning embers of dead signal flares.
The moment Rain’s boots touched the stone threshold of the high ledge, a deep, blinding red warning bled into his vision, filling his entire field of view with an intensity that made him step back half a pace.
[Target Identified: Husk Regent]

[Type: Beast / Amalgamation]
[Attributes: Consume/Adapt, Composite Physiology, Unstable Grafts]
[Threat Level: Extreme]
Rain’s breath locked in his throat as his eyes widened.
’Extreme,’ Rain thought, his mind staring at the single word pulsing in bright, bloody red across his status window. ’C-Rank Boss.’
Before he could process the threat tier, the chaotic, violent noise of an ongoing battle exploded from the far side of the flooded pit below.
"Hold the front line!" a harsh, desperate voice screamed through the echoing chamber. "Fen, flank left! Don’t let it reach the concrete platform!"
"It’s not stopping!" another voice shrieked, laced with sheer, frantic terror. "My blade isn’t even penetrating the outer hide! Holt, it’s turning!"
Rain leaned over the stone ledge, his eyes cutting through the darkness toward the right side of the chamber.
Positioned against the damp concrete wall near the entrance stairs, completely detached from the actual front-line fighting, was a familiar figure.
It was Peter.
The eighteen-year-old boy was pressed flat against the stone wall, his knees shaking violently, his face completely pale in the dim light. He had no weapon drawn. He was clutching his canvas gear bag against his chest, trying desperately to drag a wounded, bleeding person back toward the safety of the stairwell while the violent clashes echoed across the flooded pit fifty yards away.
Peter raised his eyes frantically, searching the high ledges for an exit route.
His gaze locked directly onto Rain standing at the edge of the high platform.
Peter’s jaw dropped, his eyes going wide with a mixture of absolute, unbelievable relief and sheer, unadulterated horror at the bloodied, terrifying state of the boy standing above him.
"Rain?" Peter choked out across the roaring chamber.
