Chapter 136: Chapter 136
Alpha Alaric’s Point of View
"You have gone completely insane, Alaric." Mrs. Margot screeched, her face twisting into a mask of rage. "I am the concubine of your late father, and not your concubine. So, you cannot divorce me. Your father is dead, and his seals do not belong to your whims."
The hall erupted into a chaotic storm of whispering. High Elder Saveh stepped forward from the assembly.
"Alpha, look at the stability of the clan. Dissolving a union from decades past without the High Council’s thorough verification will fracture our alignment. We must dissuade you from this impulsive action."
"Brother, I beg of you, think of our family!" Lord Khalid pleaded hoarsely. "My mother has bled for this household. You cannot humiliate my mother, and myself like this, based on a sudden morning whim"
"A whim, Khalid?" I asked back.
I drew myself up to my full height. "I have gathered everyone here because the blood of my mother has been crying out from the soil for many years. Today, this paper holds the truth." I raised my hand, snapping my fingers toward the side doors. "Wolf! Blade! Bring in the witnesses!"
The doors swung wide, and the guards marched through the threshold, guiding the two old maids who had served my mother during her final hours on earth. The moment they entered the room, the temperature inside the hall plunged to a freezing point.
"These two women had their tongues brutally cut out years ago to ensure their silence," I said. "But their eyes can still recognize a murderer. Look at them, Margot!"
Mrs. Margot drew herself up, a sweet, fake smile desperately trying to anchor back onto her face.
"I have never seen these pathetic wretches in my entire life, Alaric. What are you trying to do now?”
The exact second the words left Margot’s lips, the older of the two mute maids let out a ragged, guttural shriek of pain. The sight of the old tormentor sitting proudly on the high tier completely exploded decades of long-standing, suppressed hatred within her.
Breaking free from Wolf’s grip with a sudden, desperate burst of power, the old maid lunged forward across the rug. With a savage roar, she threw her weight directly against Mrs. Margot’s chest, pushing Mrs. Margot down onto the hard floor.
"Get this filth away from me!" Mrs. Margot screamed, her headdress tearing away as she thrashed beneath the maid’s clawing hands. "You are filth! How dare you raise your hands on me?! Guards! Slaughter this rabble!"
The maid didn’t stop, her fists pounding against Margot’s face with the crushing weight of years of stolen speech. Before my warriors could step in to manage the chaos, Lord Khalid let out a furious roar of his own. He rushed up, as he forcefully pulled the old woman away by her hair, delivering a brutal, sweeping kick straight to her ribs that sent her crashing against the stone pillars.
"Khalid, touch my witnesses again and I will sever your hand," I hissed.
I turned my gaze toward the gathering clan elders, pulling the paper he gave me. "The elders must understand that these two old maids were vocal and are ruined so they could never reveal the secrets. But they can still communicate through other means."
I stepped down from the altar, looking straight at the trembling, bleeding maid on the floor.
"Through the assistance of my trusted allies, I asked them to write down the exact sequence of events using formal hand gestures and written alignment. Speak to the court through your hand, sister. When my mother lay in her birthing bed, what did you see?"
The younger mute maid stepped forward, her fingers rapidly tracing an intricate pattern in the air before pointing directly at a silver bowl, her eyes locked onto Margot with accusation.
"The testimony is fully unraveled," I declared as I began to publicly read out the written evidence. "During my mother’s high-risk childbirth, Mrs. Margot used her authority as the mu late father’s concubine to replace the life-saving tonic my mother was prescribed. She substituted the medicine with a toxic brew pre-soaked in forbidden saffron and silvervine root resin.”
“This calculated inversion caused my mother to bleed heavily during the delivery, making her extremely sick. Her health was permanently ruined from that exact hour, leading directly to her premature death."
"This is a complete fabrication!" Mrs. Margot bellowed, her voice shaking as she scrambled back to her feet, her hands trembling. "I refuse to plead guilty to this nonsense!”
“A mute’s scribbles carry no weight in the Evernight Kingdom!" Lady Otessa stepped tightly to her mother-in-law’s side. "Alpha, this entire testimony is nothing but a frame engineered by people that hate Mrs Margot. How could two brainless mutes suddenly remember a medicine recipe from years ago? What led your scouts to their village in the first place? There is no logical trigger for this raid"
"I will give you the trigger, Lady Otessa," Dominic’s voice suddenly barked out.
Dominic wheeled his chair forward into the center of the hall, his dark wolf eyes reflecting a dangerous, confident smirk.
"Earlier this winter, a treacherous assassin inside this very palace attempted to harm my wife, Ivy, trying to force a catastrophic miscarriage using a hidden blast of internal force," Dominic revealed. "During our intensive m investigation, my shadow men monitored the suspect every night—but instead, they caught a very different thing. Mrs. Margot was completely overheard murmuring in her sleep at night.”
Dominic paused, a cold smile spreading across his face as he leaned forward to look straight into Margot’s frozen eyes.
"Inside the darkness of her bedroom, believing she was entirely alone, her unconsciousness completely broke under the weight of her guilt," Dominic said sharply.
"My men heard her confessing the truth of how she murdered my grandmother to steal the Luna’s crown.
"A collective, horrified gasp shattered the stillness of the room, every single elder and warrior freezing in shock as Margot’s face turned a permanent pale.
