Chapter 890: Disappointment?
Chapter 890: Disappointment?
Michael reached into his storage space and brought out two transparent orbs with smoke of various colours swirling within them.
[Epic Grade Treasure Orb]
[Epic-Legendary Grade Treasure Orb]
To be honest, these two were not the only new things he found in his storage space. There were also Perfect Grade Skill Mastery Tickets, but since he believed he already had an idea of what they could do, Michael was more interested in these two orbs.
"Best to save the best for last," Michael said to himself as he placed aside the orb that would give him a treasure between Epic and Legendary grade.
To be honest, he actually wanted to see what the orb would give instead of prolonging his anticipation and anxiety, but he was also scared the results would disappoint him.
Michael did not trust his luck one bit. He had never really been lucky.
Sometimes he felt it was probably because he had used everything to get another chance at life with better talent.
Though he tried not to raise his expectations about the treasure, they were nevertheless still high.
If he was going to get a good or bad result, Michael wanted to first be happy about whatever Epic Grade Treasure he would receive.
Even to Michael, Epic Grade treasures were one of a kind.
Whether or not his talent could create one did not matter. The more, the merrier.
Currently, even if he could create Epic Grade treasures, putting aside the cost, Michael was not quite certain something big would not happen.
Until he understood what it was, he needed to calm down for a while. This also applied to his undead now that he knew they would all face lightning tribulation.
Michael wondered if his talent could do anything about it, but like the case with Epic Grade treasures, he would have to wait and see.
Michael shifted his focus to the orb in his hand. His fingers tightened.
The moment he squeezed, the transparent orb shattered without resistance.
It did not break like glass. Instead, it dissolved. A puff of swirling colours burst outward, spreading like smoke before folding inward again. Red, blue, green, gold. The colours twisted and collided, compressing into a single point above his palm.
Michael watched carefully as the colours shifted to purple.
The smoke twisted, elongated, and then hardened into a ring. The ring was simple and elegant, dark purple with faint patterns etched along its surface that pulsed faintly like breathing veins.
The moment it landed in his palm, the description appeared.
[Item]: Veilring of Quiet Dominion
[Grade]: Epic ★★★
[Type]: Spatial Treasure
[Description]: A refined spatial artifact that contains a stabilized inner domain suitable for habitation.
[Effect 1]: Living Space. Contains an internal environment capable of sustaining life. Adjustable climate, stable atmosphere, and passive energy circulation.
[Effect 2]: Domain Pulse. Can release a concentrated spatial shockwave that disrupts external structures and energy formations.
Michael stared at it. "...Oh."
His expression turned a bit odd. Not bad, not weak, in fact very good. But still.
"...I would have preferred something else."
He said it honestly. Because compared to what he already had, this felt redundant.
The Damaged Coffin of the Forgotten was also Epic Grade, and it was ridiculous. Eternal Call. Gate of Death. Gravekeeper Claim. One summoned undead from the Netherworld. One allowed his consciousness to travel there. And one literally brought him back from death.
Compared to that, this ring felt normal.
Michael turned it slowly in his hand. "...An attack and a house."
He was not underestimating it. An Epic Grade attack was nothing to scoff at. But it lacked uniqueness, at least compared to what he was used to.
Michael slipped the ring on, then let his consciousness dip inside.
The space unfolded instantly.
It was nothing like the coffin. Where the coffin greeted with gloom and deathly stillness, this space opened into something breathable.
The ground beneath his perception was smooth dark stone, veined faintly with purple light that ran in long branching lines like the underside of leaves. Above, the ceiling arched high and open, and a dim ambient glow filled the space from no visible source.
It was habitable. Genuinely so. Not a holding space or a sealed container, but something closer to a prepared room waiting to be used.
Visually, it was far superior to the coffin. No gloom, no deathly aura, no oppressive silence pressing down on the senses. This felt like a place someone could actually live in.
But then Michael’s perception stretched outward, feeling for the edges.
"...It’s smaller."
That part was obvious. The coffin still held a larger capacity, and more importantly, it had far more functions.
Michael withdrew his consciousness.
"...Hmm."
He leaned back slightly. Not disappointed, but not excited either. It was useful, very useful, just not game-changing.
Michael stared at the ring for a few seconds longer, then let out a quiet breath.
"...Fine."
The word came out low, almost reluctant. In the end, he accepted it. Not because he was impressed, but because it was still useful.
Michael leaned back slightly, his gaze drifting as his thoughts shifted away from comparison and toward practicality.
Space. That was the real value here.
Right now, his undead army was growing at a rate that even he was starting to feel the pressure of. The Damaged Coffin of the Forgotten was vast, but it was not limitless.
At the moment, most of his undead were maintaining human forms. That was the only way to conserve space.
Large forms meant more room consumed. Keeping them compressed and human-like, that was his way of managing it.
Michael glanced at the ring again. This ring might not have the ridiculous abilities of the coffin, but it gave him room. That alone had value.
Michael’s lips curved faintly. "...Alright."
His earlier disappointment faded just a little.
His gaze shifted slowly toward the final orb resting beside him. The Epic-Legendary one.
His eyes sharpened.
"...Now this one."
The air around him seemed to grow just a little quieter, because unlike before, this time he allowed himself to expect something.
