Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 1048: Surprise [2]

Then Michael suddenly laughed. The other Michael laughed as well. Even their timing was identical.

"I guess this is what happens when someone lives two completely different lives."

The Origin Michael nodded. Though they shared memories, each body experienced things the other did not.

Over time, tiny differences accumulated. Those differences eventually became habits. Those habits became temperament. And temperament became presence.

The Aurora Michael crossed his arms. "If someone met us separately, they probably would not even realize we are the same person."

"Most likely."

The Origin Michael glanced down at his own somewhat elegant dark robes, then toward the simple t-shirt and jeans worn by his counterpart.

The contrast alone was enough to tell a story. It was almost amusing. Despite being the same individual, their auras had diverged so much that they felt like twins raised in entirely different worlds.

Which, in a sense, they were.

Then suddenly both Michaels froze. A realization struck them simultaneously. Their eyes widened.

"…Wait."

"…No way."

The two spoke at the same time.

If the Mausoleum could connect both worlds, and if both bodies could physically exist in the same location, then theoretically… The Aurora Michael slowly turned toward his counterpart. The Origin Michael slowly turned toward him. Neither spoke for several seconds.

As they shared the same mind, neither needed to explain what the other was thinking. The moment the thought appeared in one mind, the other already knew.

Without another word, both turned and walked toward the portal leading back to Aurora. A moment later, they stepped through. The transition was smooth.

Nothing exploded. Nothing collapsed. No mysterious cosmic force appeared to stop them. The Michael from the Land of Origin had successfully entered Aurora.

For several seconds both stood inside the room as the Origin Michael looked around. Then he smiled.

"If this is possible…" His gaze softened slightly. "…then we do not need to worry about being away from Aunt Mia and Lily anymore."

The Aurora Michael smiled as well. "That is true."

No matter how important things became in the Land of Origin, part of Michael always remained worried about the people back in Aurora, and the same was true for the Michael already in Aurora.

It was unknown whether this came from ordinary familial love or from the experience of having nearly lost his family within a month of becoming a supernatural turning protection to excessive cautiousness.

Now that problem had greatly diminished.

The Origin Michael could return whenever he wished. Likewise, the Aurora Michael could visit whenever necessary. The pressure weighing on him suddenly felt much lighter.

Then the Origin Michael looked around the room. His expression changed. A look of dissatisfaction appeared on his face.

"…Michael."

"What?"

"Do you ever clean your room?"

The original Michael froze. He suddenly felt an intense wave of disdain coming from his other self. His eyelid twitched.

"What are you talking about? It is not even dirty."

The Origin Michael glanced at the desk. Then the chair. Then the pile of books. Then the clothes. His expression became even more judgmental.

The Aurora Michael became speechless. For some reason, he felt like he was being inspected by a noble visiting a peasant's quarters.

Since they shared the same mind, the Origin Michael naturally knew exactly what the other was thinking. He immediately became embarrassed. He coughed awkwardly.

Ignoring his counterpart's reaction, the original Michael dragged him back into the Mausoleum world.

As time passed, both took the opportunity to learn more about the abilities of the Legendary Grade item and what applications were most beneficial to them.

Time passed, and soon it was the morning of the next day.

Today was also the day Michael was required to be present at the academy.

After having breakfast with his family, Michael took his leave immediately.

Using Wisdom's spatial abilities, it did not take long to arrive at the academy's secret realm, where he made his way directly to Director Lin's office.

Fortunately she was in, and Michael did not need to search for another director to report to.

Director Lin looked up from the documents on her desk the moment Michael entered. A faint smile appeared on her face.

"You are finally back."

Michael nodded. "Director."

She gestured toward a seat. "Sit."

Michael obeyed. For a moment, Director Lin studied him before speaking. "How was your emergency?"

Michael naturally understood what she was referring to. More than a week ago, he had abruptly left the anti-demonic operation after learning about Arianne's death.

Of course, there was no way he could explain the real reason.

"It has been resolved," Michael replied calmly. "Thank you for your understanding back then."

Director Lin shook her head. "I did not help you. I simply gave you permission to do what you already intended to do."

Michael did not reply. Technically speaking, she was right. His thanks had mostly been intended to ease the atmosphere. So Michael simply smiled and let the matter drop.

Director Lin did not dwell on it either. Instead, her expression became serious. "Now then. Let us talk about the operation. After all, that is the reason you were called back to the academy."

Michael straightened slightly.

Over the next several minutes, Director Lin summarized the aftermath of the Federation's widespread assault against the demonic supernaturals.

Most of what she said was information Teacher Brian had already shared during his visit, but there were also a few details Michael had not heard before.

Several neutral factions had apparently also secretly assisted once they realized how badly the demonic faction had been weakened.

To many forces throughout Aurora, the demonic faction had long been a dangerous pest that harmed everyone around them while benefiting only themselves.

In short, the demonic supernaturals had suffered heavily.

At one point, Director Lin looked directly at him. "Although you did not personally participate in the operation, you were one of its largest contributors to its success."

Michael remained silent but listened attentively.

"The information you provided regarding the hidden locations of the demonic faction saved countless lives. The operation would have looked very different without it."

Michael smiled modestly. "I merely got lucky."

Director Lin snorted. "Luck is also a form of strength."

Michael wisely decided not to argue.

Then finally, the words he had been waiting to hear arrived.

Director Lin opened a drawer and pulled out a document. "We have finished processing your request."

Michael's eyes immediately sharpened. By request, he knew she was referring to his compensation.

Back when he had surrendered information regarding multiple hidden locations of the demonic faction, Michael had specifically requested payment in the form of access rights to as many dimensional cracks as could reasonably be opened to him.

Director Lin placed the document on the desk. "Your request has been approved."

Michael's heartbeat sped up slightly.

Director Lin's smile widened. "Not only approved." She slid the document toward him. "The higher-ups were surprisingly generous this time."

Michael immediately picked it up.
