Chapter 401: Second Trial: Bronze Statues
Chapter 401: Second Trial: Bronze Statues
Liora stood alone on a massive yet barren planet. There were no buildings, plants, or any other signs of life.
Only a dozen bronze statues stood not far away from her, facing in her direction.
“Second Trial begins. Selected difficulty: Highest.”
“Reminder: The challenger has no permission to surrender!”
The moment the cold words fell, the statues in the distance quivered.
A trace of intelligence appeared in their originally dead eyes before they suddenly moved.
They didn’t speak a word.
Without the need to communicate, they all rushed forward and surrounded Liora with precise movements.
Then, once they had cut down her escape routes, they all attacked her.
A statue held a long spear and thrust it forward, its tip whistling through the air.
Another statue wielded a sword and swung it in her direction with all its strength.
Similarly, clubs, axes, and even fists shot towards Liora, all aiming at her weak points.
Within a moment of the second trial beginning, she had already found herself being besieged.
And, judging by the chilling, murderous intent the bronze statues emanated, they were not planning to hold back in their attacks.
Liora instantly realized that the bronze statues were extraordinary.
Just based on their momentum, she could see that they possessed the power of a True Spirit Greater Devil.
Although the methods they used were different, their power was still unfathomable.
Liora realized that she could not take their blows head-on and quickly made a decision.
Following a move of her mind, the space before her shattered, and the gap in it swallowed her whole.
Only a second after she left, the attacks arrived.
Several kilometers-wide craters formed, and the mere aftershock was enough to send Indestructible Body Devils flying.
The material used to create the planet was extremely precious. Liora had sensed that even True Devils would have trouble leaving a scratch behind.
Therefore, the power wielded by the statues to cause such damage did not need an explanation.
Fortunately, Liora reacted quickly.
Before the bronze statues could adjust, she had already teleported behind one of them.
A spear surrounded by crackling thunder materialized in her hand, and she thrust it at the statue’s neck.
Though she knew that it wasn’t a living being and suspected that it didn’t have “weak spots” per se, she also knew that it didn’t hurt to try.
Her demonic energy and Demonforce poured into the Spear of Divine Punishment, enhancing its power.
Coupled with the trace of natural disasters she had comprehended, Liora was confident that even a True Spirit Greater Devil would be nailed to death if they were to face such an attack.
However, the result was quite shocking.
Not only did the spear fail to kill the opponent, but instead, a thunderous clang echoed.
A powerful force shot back and drilled into her body, forcing her to take several steps back.
This was not the most worrying thing, though. What caught Liora off guard was that the statue’s neck was completely intact.
Much less harm it, her attack had failed to leave even a scratch behind.
Before she could catch her breath, another barrage of attacks arrived.
Although Liora’s previous evasion was sudden, the bronze statues didn’t seem to care.
They quickly got back into a formation and attacked her once again, skillfully forming a siege around her in an instant.
The sharp light of their weapons was soon reflected in Liora’s eyes.
Just like before, she didn’t dare to face them head-on.
She could see that each attack contained the full power of a True Spirit Greater Devil.
When these attacks were integrated, their power was unimaginable.
Fortunately, Liora had ample combat experience. In just one encounter, she was able to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the opponents.
“The power of a peak True Spirit Greater Devil, coupled with a defense that is impossible to break. Each statue is individually stronger than the Plague Devil, much less when they work together.”
“Fortunately, their agility is slightly lacking.”
Still, Liora’s expression grew increasingly solemn.
Especially when she recalled the earlier words of the voice, she realized that there was something amiss with this trial.
She found it difficult to believe that there was such a big difference between this and the first trial.
Unfortunately, the statues didn’t allow her to think this through.
Faced with their attacks, Liora could only dodge once more.
The space in front of her cracked and tried to swallow her whole as she activated Null Step, planning to jump somewhere else.
But just then, one of the statues’ weapons lit up.
An overwhelming power arrived and smoothed out the space, causing the crack in space to quickly heal.
Liora immediately sensed this and was shocked.
With a move of her mind, her body shot back, and she tried to evade the attacks in another way.
Unfortunately, her momentary pause was already deadly.
Although she was fast and dodged most of the blows, a massive club unexpectedly landed on her shoulder.
The sound of bones being crushed echoed, while a mouthful of blood formed in Liora’s mouth, and she had the urge to spit it out.
Liora ultimately suppressed the impact. But still, it was inevitable that she was injured.
The injury was not grave, and she was able to recover almost immediately.
However, the fact that one of the attacks could harm her represented the danger of the situation she was currently in.
Liora used the remaining force in her body to break out of the enemies’ formation.
In the time between their successive strikes, she shot out and opened some distance between them.
Secretly, she was trying to analyze the situation.
She knew that it was nearly impossible for her to face these bronze statues head-on.
Though they were individually weaker than her, their indestructible defense made it impossible to wear them out.
A trace of annoyance rose within her heart.
These bronze statues seemed to have been created specifically to counter her abilities.
Her fierce attacking power was neutralized by their indestructible defense, while her high mobility was rendered invalid by their sealing of space.
Even her physical strength was unable to keep up with that of her opponents.
This was the first time Liora had faced such a situation.
In the past, she had been able to overpower her opponents simply based on her overwhelming strength.
But now, it seemed that this was simply not possible.
“The trials are supposedly based on the challenger’s strength.”
“For example, if a True Devil were to reach the second stage, they wouldn’t face Greater Devil statues, but True Devils.”
“This means that, in the inheritance palace’s opinion, there is a way for me to deal with these statues.”
