Chapter 293: Unintentionally Affected
Chapter 293: Unintentionally Affected
Star City. Though Liora had never visited this place before, she had seen it from afar during her previous travels and had learned a lot of information regarding it.
Although Star City was weaker than Bloodflower City and did not have a Greater Devil in charge, the number of True Devils staying in it was actually more.
According to the rumors, more than a dozen True Devils stayed in the city, some of whom were extremely powerful.
In particular, the person in charge, Star Devil, possessed the ability to absorb the power of stars and was immensely powerful.
From the scenes she had glimpsed from the memories of other Devils and the many rumors roaming around about the city, Liora could imagine its magnificence.
However, when she came to visit this famous city, Liora found… nothing.
That’s right.
Where there once stood a city, there now existed an empty plot of land.
There were no high walls, no buildings, and most importantly, no people.
There was no smell of blood drifting in the air nor any ruins left behind, letting Liora know that this was not the result of a bitter battle.
Instead, the entire city, stretching for many kilometers, had been destroyed all at once.
No one had been able to resist, including the dozens of True Devils and the famous Star Devil.
“Destroying a city in the Demon World is nothing strange, and even I have done it while in the Crucible.”
“But, it’s very strange that there were no traces left behind. I’m afraid that even Greater Devils would have trouble achieving this.”, Liora whispered as she approached the empty plot of land.
She leaned down and brushed her fingers against the earth, while her consciousness swept out, investigating every inch of this place.
But ultimately, she discovered nothing. No trace had been left behind that could be linked to the perpetrator’s identity.
However, Liora had a faint suspicion.
After confirming that there was nothing else to look at in this place, she took one final look and soared into the sky again.
—
Liora’s speed grew even faster. In less than an hour, she had arrived at the neighboring Devil city.
However, just a couple of minutes later, she once again soared into the sky and disappeared.
This happened several times.
Liora wandered from one city to another, seemingly having gone insane and lost her sense of direction.
It was only a day later that her actions finally came to a stop.
Landing on the ground, Liora casually sat down.
Her expression turned grave.
Over the past few hours, she had visited an unknown number of cities.
Yet, every single one of them was in the same state: they had been unknowingly wiped out, as if they had been erased by an invisible power.
At first, Liora was unable to discover anything. But as she visited more and more cities, she was able to finally capture a distinct aura.
An aura that was familiar to her, yet quite foreign.
Or rather, a mix of several auras.
“Is it the Archdevil corpse?”
Although that creature was no longer the original corpse but an amalgamation of several different beings, Liora still referred to it as such out of habit.
However, though Liora had guessed that it was the perpetrator, she had trouble guessing its true purpose.
“Has it gone insane and is now attacking everything in its way? Or is it devouring Devils and absorbing them to further recover its strength?”
Either way, Liora felt that the corpse’s end was bound to not be good.
Although the Demon World was chaotic and no one cared about the killings happening in it, it would be different if a powerhouse were to go on a rampage and slaughter weaker Devils.
Whether it was the ancient Devils living in it or even the Ruler of the Layer itself, they were bound to step forward and stop it.
After all, in these people’s opinion, the entire Layer was their property.
The Archdevil corpse’s actions were not only an offense to them, but were also tantamount to stealing these people’s things.
Thankfully, Liora did not really care about the corpse’s fate. Even if it died, it would be none of her business.
What she cared about was how it would affect her.
In the end, after a few minutes of thought, Liora concluded that she was no different from other Devils of this Layer.
Besides the danger brought by the corpse itself, she had no reason to worry.
Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
“That’s good.”, she whispered.
Rising to her feet, she was about to open a space for herself in the ground, where she would be able to count her spoils.
However, just when Liora had let down her guard, countless alarm bells suddenly rang in her heart.
Many overlapping whispers echoed in her mind, as the familiar sense of danger washed over her.
Even compared to the earlier situation, the danger she now sensed was not weaker in the slightest.
If anything, it had grown even more intense, making it clear that her life was in danger.
Liora’s first thought was that someone had sneaked up on her and was about to launch an attack.
However, even as seconds passed, nothing happened.
Just as it seemed that everything was an illusion, two images flashed in front of her eyes.
One image was of two almighty beings, one chasing after the other, while the second one was of an inexplicable creature standing in a dark space.
Low, unintelligible words came out of its mouth as blood flashed in front of it, slowly taking a human form.
As the form’s characteristics slowly cleared up, Liora recognized that person from their outline.
It was none other than herself!
Coupled with the danger she was feeling, she instantly understood what was going on.
“Is someone investigating what happened in the Hollow? Were they alerted by the Archdevil corpse’s massacre?”
Liora’s expression grew ugly.
Even if she had nothing to do with the corpse and the ongoing massacre, it was a fact that she was the person responsible for that creature’s birth.
Even if she wasn’t, the several secrets she held, including the System itself, made her unwilling to interact with such beings.
Not that she would have the chance to interact with them if she were to be identified.
The more likely outcome would be that her soul would be extracted and devoured.
“Damn it! It’s fine if you want to seek death, but why do you have to drag me with you?!”, Liora couldn’t help but curse the Archdevil corpse, vowing that she would teach it a lesson in the future.
Despite this, she actually wasn’t too panicked.
As a paranoid and overly cautious person, she had already made preparations in case such an event occurred.
Ignoring the chill running down her spine and the whispers ringing in her head, Liora’s mind moved, and a circular piece of metal flew out of the Space Orb.
As her demonic energy poured into it, many Devil Runes flew out and landed on the ground beneath her. With another move of her mind, several Fire Elemental cores appeared, turning into liquid and dyeing the runes below in crimson.
Tracing her connection with it, Liora did not stop to think. She activated the formation and stood at its center.
World-Descending Array—a formation she had obtained a long time ago, and the method she had used to travel to the world of Knights.
Although she had now become a True Devil and could wander in the Origin Sea, doing so would require some time. Compared to the World-Descending Array, it would be many times more troublesome and inefficient.
She might have given it a try if it were at any other time, but she was still in danger at the moment and had no time to waste.
Liora’s mind connected with the array. Millions of unique voices echoed in her ears, each representing an individual in a different world.
Originally, she should have chosen one of them, signed a Devil Contract, and obtained the “certificate” to descend into their world.
But this time, Liora was prepared to do something different.
With a wave of her hand, a white light appeared in her right palm, which she tossed onto the surrounding Devil Runes.
As the light dissipated, the millions of voices in her head retreated. The next moment, her figure vanished, and with her also disappeared the World-Descending Array.
At the same time, in a faraway place, the blood that was slowly transforming into Liora suddenly paused.
With a bang, it exploded, erased from existence.
“Huh?!”, a faint exclamation sounded. But this person was only momentarily surprised.
Soon, the room fell into silence once again as the blood gathered together and began transforming once again. This time, though, it took a different form.

Author’s Note: I’m planning to make the next world short compared to the world of Knights and the plot more fast-paced. Also, Liora will retain most of her strength from the start and will quickly recover (and advance further).
The arc should last less than 50 Chapters from start to finish.
Thanks for reading!
