Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 277: Strange Cooperation

Chapter 277: Strange Cooperation

Although the attack of the True Devil Lava Giant came out of nowhere, Liora was far from being caught by surprise.

Having sensed its existence long ago, she had already prepared herself in case of emergencies.

Facing the descending lava, her eyes flickered.

Her instinctive reaction was to face the blow head-on and rely on the Myriad Devils Body’s powerful defense to survive.

However, after shooting a glance at the Slave Lord, she restrained that impulse.

Grabbing Alpha by the shoulder, she pulled her backwards as the edges of her vision blurred.

Her movements were extremely quick, as if she were bending time itself.

In the short time it took for the lava to reach her location, she had already disappeared.

Both her and Alpha’s figures turned into mere afterimages, reappearing behind the clueless Slave Lord a split second later.

The next moment, the scorching lava fell down as if the dam containing it had burst.

The sand covering the earth melted and turned liquid, while large amounts of rubble flew everywhere, like thousands of tiny comets.

Surprisingly, the person who had to deal with the impact was not Liora nor Alpha, but the Slave Lord.

As the remains of the lava hit her and left faint wounds behind, a trace of fury flashed across her face.

She was about to curse at Liora and ask her what she was doing, but Liora had already spoken up:

“What are you waiting for? Help me deal with it!”

“Keep it still for some time while I charge up my attack!”, she shouted, and the fire elements around her flickered, gathering around her hands and slowly taking form.

Hearing her yelling, the Slave Lord could only swallow the words she was about to say.

Whether she was willing or not, she could only trust her for now and do as told.

Taking a glance at Liora, she turned towards the Lava Giant and attacked it. Chains emerged from her back and assaulted it, as she did her best to buy Liora time to prepare.

However, what the Slave Lord did not know was that Liora was not as busy as she seemed.

Although her face was stern and full of focus, in fact, she had ample time to take a look at what was happening around her.

Ignoring the dying members of the slave army and their painful screams, most of her attention fell on the battle between the Slave Lord and the Lava Giant.

Though their exchange was brief, Liora was able to analyze a lot through it.

“It seems that the rumors regarding the Slave Lord and the other five Lords are true.”

“Unlike what their respective titles would suggest, she is a lot more powerful than the Violence Lord.”

That much was clear to her.

During the fight between her and the Lava Giant, Liora instantly noticed that the Slave Lord held the absolute advantage.

The black chains shot out and, like dangerous serpents, encircled the opponent before attacking it from all directions.

Although the Lava Giant was a True Devil and would not be killed in a single strike like the other flaming creatures, it was clear that it struggled to keep up with the Slave Lord’s pace.

In Liora’s opinion, it was only a matter of time before the Slave Lord would defeat it.

However, amidst this quite ordinary sight, Liora spotted something peculiar.

Even though the Slave Lord seemed impatient and appeared to be going all out, as if she wanted to rescue her slaves, her act seemed quite clumsy in Liora’s eyes.

“Sure enough, a Devil is a Devil after all.”

“Even at times like these, she chooses to hide her strength despite her subordinates dying as a direct result.”, Liora realized, but she didn’t point it out.

She remained thoughtful and planned to observe some more and judge the Slave Lord’s overall strength and trump cards, when an angry voice suddenly echoed in her mind:

“What are you waiting for? Do you wish to see me die?”, the Slave Lord’s cold voice rang in her ears.

Hearing these words and the fury contained in them, Liora understood that she could no longer stay out of it.

Obviously, no matter how good her acting skills were and how much she tried to hide it, the Slave Lord was beginning to suspect something.

Though slightly reluctant, Liora stopped pretending and acted. Of course, she didn’t forget to communicate with her ally:

“This thing is born out of fire.”

“Ordinary flames will never bring it any harm. Only by fully demonstrating my strength can I actually hurt it, or even kill it.”, she stated, and not caring whether the Slave Lord would believe her, she finally attacked.

Her enhanced Elemental Affinity was activated, and boundless fire elements gathered in front of her, taking a ball-shaped form.

As a few sparks lit up, a bunch of flames soon appeared.

They were orange at first.

But as more and more fire elements gathered and empowered them, they gained a tinge of red.

Before long, a completely crimson fireball was floating within her two hands, seemingly dripping with fresh blood.

Although Liora was this thing’s creator, she was still affected by its high temperature and sensed a trace of threat in it.

It was the first time she had used Elemental Affinity after devouring the three True Devil Fire Elemental cores.

However, despite being surprised by its power, she did not remain stunned.

Raising her head, she looked at the Lava Giant and waved her hand, firing it forward.

As if she had predicted this, the Slave Lord cooperated seamlessly with her.

With a flicker, she flashed away from the opponent, and a loud clang echoed as the black chains surrounding the Lava Giant suddenly tensed up.

Firing from all directions, they tightened, forming a web of chains around the enemy.

Some of them wrapped around its limbs while others bound its waist, holding it in place.

Before the Lava Giant could react, it was already too late. It had been rendered unable to defend itself and could only face Liora’s blow head-on.

The next moment, the crimson fireball arrived. Following a loud roar, its figure was engulfed by its own kind.
