Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 276: Surrounded

Chapter 276: Surrounded

Liora and the rest of the group continued their march.

They walked deeper into the desert, while at the same time, the bright light rapidly approached their location.

Under such circumstances, it didn’t take long for the two parties to meet under Liora’s tacit approval.

Just like the creatures they had met earlier, this one also did not show up immediately.

Instead, it chose to remain hidden, concealing its aura and making it impossible for one to detect it.

In the whole “army”, the only person who managed to find that there was anything wrong was Liora.

However, she showed no reaction on the surface, not even informing Alpha about it.

She merely cast a glance at the Slave Lord. Seeing that she had discovered nothing, she raised her guard, ready to defend against potential sneak attacks.

Time passed, and as it did, she soon found something surprising.

After the unknown creature reached the location, it did not rush forward to attack them like its now-dead companions.

Lurking in the surroundings, it began tracing behind them, keeping a certain distance between them.

Such a distance was not very big for beings of their level and could be covered in an instant.

However, it was more than enough to render most people’s intuition invalid and prevent them from sensing the incoming danger.

Seeing its behavior, a faint suspicion couldn’t help but form in Liora’s mind.

“Perhaps these creatures are more intelligent than expected.”

“Or at least, the powerful among them possess certain traces of intelligence.”, she thought while her eyes wandered in the creature’s general direction.

As they did, the four-sided symbol in her pupils grew increasingly more ominous. Elemental Affinity was activated under her control, allowing her to sense the surrounding elements and particularly that of fire.

Instantly, Liora noticed that several smaller lights that had previously remained motionless began to move.

Seemingly following someone’s commands, they all stopped whatever it was that they were doing and gathered towards their direction.

Their target was fairly obvious, and not much effort had to be expended to figure it out.

Liora immediately understood their purpose.

Clearly, these creatures were targeting their team.

Indeed, only a few minutes later, the situation confirmed her suspicions.

Under her gaze, hundreds of unknown creatures had encircled their team, like a pack of wolves eyeing their prey.

Coupled with the True Devil-level creature that was already there, a small-scale army had been assembled in this dangerous desert, completely unbeknownst to everyone.

For a moment, Liora couldn’t help but wonder whether her decision to remain silent earlier had been wrong.

Would any of the members of the slave army manage to survive, or would they all fall into the hands of these enemies?

Unfortunately, Liora did not have the time to ponder for long.

As if all the troops had been deployed and they had received the agreed-upon signal, hundreds of creatures shot out of the ground and attacked the team.

Several screams soon followed.

Standing at the center of the army, both Liora and the Slave Lord witnessed several slaves being incarcerated, engulfed by the scorching flames of the recently emerged creatures.

Just like the ones they had met beforehand, these creatures were not very strong, only possessing the strength of a Lesser Devil.

Yet, their overwhelming number and their surprisingly good cooperation managed to catch the slave army off guard.

Many of them died the moment they faced the sneak attack, while the rest were soon surrounded by the flaming creatures and forced to defend against their siege.

It was only then that the two True Devils had the time to react.

Liora showed a slightly shocked expression as if she had never expected that such a thing would happen. Still, ultimately, she did not step forward and take action.

On the other hand, though, the Slave Lord was not as calm. She had already been saddened by the slave army’s many losses so far and was secretly furious.

Now that she saw the remaining ones getting attacked and dying right in front of her, she found it hard to retain her composure any longer.

Without asking Liora for her opinion and help, she hastily attacked.

Just like before, several black chains emerged from behind her back and shot forward, aiming in all directions.

They were only a few at first, but as they grew longer and whistled through the air, the chains quickly split apart and multiplied.

One became two, and two became four, and soon, hundreds of black chains had covered the entire desert.

Though the attack had been split apart, its power had hardly diminished.

Every chain possessed the power to seriously injure a Lesser Devil if not straight up kill them.

Obviously, the Slave Lord no longer held back. Although she didn’t use any trump card, her attack was no longer as casual and relaxed.

However, the expected outcome didn’t occur.

Just when the Slave Lord thought that everything was done for and was preparing to count the army’s losses, a new figure emerged from the ground and shot forward.

Possessing the form of a Lava Giant, its towering figure stood out among the many enemies, like an ordinary person among dwarfs.

Perhaps more importantly, however, was the giant’s oppressive aura.

The instant it showed up, it quickly became abundantly clear.

This Lava Giant was a True Devil, a creature at the same level as Liora and the Slave Lord.

As Liora’s eyes reflected its figure, she couldn’t help but curse.

Not because of its unexpected appearance. She had long expected it, guessing that it was for this reason that it chose to summon the other creatures.

What made Liora angry was the Lava Giant’s goal.

Surprisingly, it did not choose to take the opportunity and attack the preoccupied and defenseless Slave Lord, but rather chose to target her and Alpha.

In the blink of an eye, its figure had appeared beside her.

Following a tumble of the flames surrounding it, large amounts of lava fell down and shot in her direction.
